At the mention of Nikola Quixote brightened visibly. "Oh yes! she always knows just what to do!" She always seemed to understand when he did things that got him in trouble and what to do next. He was really thinking that storming the castle alone while it had seemed such a good idea at the time, was perhaps not that well thought out.

"I shall work on re-equipping myself, perhaps some leather gloves and a wrap of my sword handle that isn't metal. I would be happy to fight alongside any such worthies to defend Bravia your Gra--- err... Noct."

"Anything you need, just let me know and I'll do what I can to aid. Get to put the blacksmith skills to use here and there, after all." He laughs softly, and then furrows a brow, "The messengers say that they are unable to make contact with the General and Captains. I'm not sure if it could be some sort of technology or mysticism by the Xanthareel hordes. I know they have more abilities than the common Yvyrm, but I didn't anticipate them having become advanced enough to cut off our communication. Would you make it your first order of business to make sure all of the captains are prepared and safe? And let them know that if they need assistance of any sort, that they can go through you, and I will aid them in any way I am able.

"Be careful out there, and take this with you," he said, passing over a small barely mobile ball of energy to Quixote. "This is commonly called a shadow orb, which appears to simply be darkness inside a glass, one might think it just darkly stained glass. However, the properties placed in it cause to to react when around aggressive shielding that would block it out. If you walk into one, it will hiss and the shadows inside will slip away, and you'll be left with an empty glass, thus you'll be aware if you enter the area where something's affecting communications."

Quixote took the proffered orb, fumbling it on to the table, but it didn't break and he was more careful the second time. He turned his head to the side and gawked at it. He would have to ask Nikola about this thing when he found her. That would definitely be his first order of business. He sensed the interview was over so he pocketed the orb, stood up, came to the position of attention and saluted, his metal gauntlet clanging off his metal great helm.

"For Honor and for Bravia!" he announced and then went forth on his new quest. He had no idea where to find these mentioned people, but he always felt better when he had a purpose. Quixote was a man of action!

A little bird tells Nikola that Quixote will soon be searching for her so she leaves a trail of breadcrumbs for him to follow in the form of tiny windmills that will take him to where she is hunting.

The shadow orb seemed to speak to Quixote as he was heading out, "The Xanthareels are coming to town. Be prepared, the High Mage's spells have angered them, and they will come for the people. Let's make them remember why they cowered in the oceans in the first place, Quixote. Nikola, Nortad, and Darkrose will all be advised of the coming storm. Let us be the lightning that strikes through the darkness."

With that, Noct would send advisories to all those serving in the armies of Bravia, showing the paths of the Xanthareels so that the armies would be prepared to intercept and obliterate those who would oppress her people, trusting in Quixote to meet up with the warriors. And then, he blended into shadows, true form emerging with shimmers of metallic armors and bladed talons. It was time for the beast to run the nights once again, and this time it wouldn't be a dream.

Quixote hurried home and packed, he had a vague idea that the expeditionary force would be going to different mines. He had hunted at mines before because they attracted Yvrym that liked to munch at the metals.

He got all his armor and protective equipment and some spares, his diamond sword, his sapphire sword, a lance and axe and a cleverly designed bolo he'd made but never tested in battle. He brought regular food plus lots of noodles along with pots and pans for cooking. He remembered how much Nikola liked buttery noodles when he had feted her some time back.

he couldn't go without his dress military uniform, the one with all the medals he'd awarded himself when he was general. Somehow he imagined the xanthareel war ending in a parade.

For some reason though, he wasn't making as swift a progress as he had thought... his horse wouldn't gallop and it tired easily ... something to do with encumbrance.

Luckily his sharp eyes spotted a tiny windmill at a crossroads. "Aha! Little monster here to taunt me about the bigger monsters are you? We'll see about that!" He backed up, brought his lance into position and charged. The tiny giant with the waving arms evidently knew some kind of judo :( The target was so low to the ground that his lance, though nearly striking the mill struck the soft ground instead and stuck creating a pivot point. His horse kept going and the lance bent back but the knight refused to let go. It vaulted Quixote high into the air and he landed on his backside. With many colourful oaths he vowed revenge.

One would never have thought a six inch high toy windmill would be such a fearsome opponent, but it vexed Quixote sorely, in fact he had a long adversarial relationship with windmills and was emotionally committed to defeating it, and he vastly overestimated its abilities. A small child could have just picked up the toy and put it in their pocket, but Quixote never considered that approach. after the failed lance charge his armor was damaged pretty badly. The gold mail looked awesome and it made him feel morally good, but it was soft and bent rather easily. His knee joint was particularly bad and it took him awhile to struggle to his feet. He had expected at any moment one of those terrible arms to come down on his throat during this process, but fortunately the beast just stood where he had first seen it. He went for the bolos next. Now Quixote was a master swordsman 100% skill, and decent with an axe 75% but with lance and bolos he had never been formally trained, though in his own mind he was an expert. In fact when the bolos went awry it convinced him that the little windmill was a sorcerer casting curses at him. The first try he dented his helmet so badly that it was entirely ruined. His head was injured too, but quixote was blessed with a thick skull. The second try went flying over the beast's head and the third one Quixote wrapped around his own neck and nearly strangled himself. His swordsplay was too fancy by half for the beast and just when he thought he had it subdued, a breeze would come along and it would start waving its arms in that taunting gesture he hated so much. In the end it was a good thing he'd brought all his weapons. His sword was dulled, his lance ruined, even quixote could see the bolos were no use after a while. But his last resort, the axe was his trump card. He smashed the devilish creature all to bits with a beautiful chop.

Sadly, this combat ended Quixote's Xanthareel hunting career, he was lucky to be alive really. But he couldn't help but compose a jaunty tune on his way back to Paz.

(OOC: Quixote's ballad is set to the tune of Johnny Horton's 'The Sinking of the Bismarck' which you can find on Youtube. Quixote is pronounced here with the Anglicized QWIX-it not the original spanish Key-HO-tay to which he also answers.)

In the summer of the Xanthareels the war had just begun
The Xanthies they were clever, they had a lot of tricks
The windmill was their champion they sent him forth to fight
Its arms were scythes, its spells were fierce and martial arts abound
Out of the cold and foggy morn came the Bravian Knight Quixote
And as he saw his enemy, he knew and understood
He had to kill the windmill, the terror of the road
Stop those arms as sharp as swords and spells like mages three

To reach those naughty Xanthies that are making such a fuss
We’ve got to smash this Windmill, cause the world depends on us
Hit the ground a runnin knights as it spins its arms around
We’ve found that awful windmill and we gotta cut her down

The Knight found the windmill on that fatal day
The windmill started taunting fifteen miles away
We gotta smash that windmill was the battle sound
But when the charge was over, the mighty knight was down
The windmill flipped him off his horse the lance was like a twig
But Quixote wouldn’t yield, he drew his mighty bolos
They whirled around his head, the monster cast a spell
The bolos were bewitched and felled the knight again

To reach those naughty Xanthies that are making such a fuss
We’ve got to smash this Windmill, cause the world depends on us
Hit the ground a runnin knights as it spins its arms around
We’ve found that awful windmill and we gotta cut her down

His vision cleared he drew his sword and he saw the morning sun
The windmill spun its arms and parried like a champ
And that sword turned dull just like a butter knife
But he’d found that awful windmill and he had to cut her down
With ax in hand he started coming fast
The first shot hit the windmill, they knew it couldn’t last
That mighty Xanthy windmill is just a memory
Smash the windmill was the battle cry that shook the viceroyalty.

To reach those naughty Xanthies that are making such a fuss
We had to smash this Windmill, cause the world depends on us
Hit the ground a runnin knights as it spins its arms around
We’ve found that awful windmill and we finally cut her down

To reach those naughty Xanthies that are making such a fuss
We had to smash this Windmill, cause the world depends on us
Hit the ground a runnin knights as it spins its arms around
We’ve found that awful windmill and we finally cut her down
