She looked at his hand with confusion for a moment before she remembered. They valued touching with their hands - humans didn't know how to reach out with their spirits. It was the same with hugging, another gesture that Hephastion's vestigial human nature clung to. She had a hard time understanding it, but it seemed to make him happy, so she indulged him by setting her hand in his.

"I didn't feel anything, really - all those months in meditation was like being in a void. I didn't need anything, sleep, food, water..." she trailed off, leaving the rest of the list silent. She shrugged slightly. "I can feel it now, though, I've felt it all week," she continued after a moment, quieter than before. "I can...suppress it for a time, slow it, but it's still there, and it's getting harder to control."

He nodded as she spoke, understanding what she was telling him "Its not just a need for blood Wandress" he smiled softly "Its the bond between us as well" obviously while she was in her meditation, she was able to supress the need to sustain it, her ind was able to clear out the bloodlust, which he was glad to learn. She obviously didnt need him as much as the previous few, but she had to remain in a state of meditation to fight it.

He drew his hand from hers and closed his eyes, his fangs grew long in his mouth. When he opened his eyes, they flashed, filled with a deep hunger, one which she had seen before. He broke the skin of his wrist, only a small bite to allow a few drops of blood to run down his arm "A few drops should invigorate you" it had been so many months since she had taken vitae directly from him, and in that time through his own form of meditation and working with his abilities, the vitae in him had become more potent, meaning he didnt need to feed as often, or use it so quickly. He held out his arm for her, inviting her to take what she needed.

Wandress eyed his arm with the concern of a healer; she had to fight off the instinct to clean the dark trail his blood left along his skin and knit the damage together again. Besides, it was nothing for him to heal it himself if he chose. The need for his vitae throbbed within her, making itself known at the sense of being so close to satisfaction. She had not felt it so strongly in months, perhaps over a year. After so long she thought she had a grasp on it, could control it, could treat it like a disease. Perhaps it was that, but with the tang of his blood strong in her nostrils, her need for it battled fiercely with her desire for control.

Gripping his arm gently, she lifted his skin to her lips, her small, ridged tongue lapped at the coppery blood that ensured she wasn't doomed to a painful, empty death. Yet. She released him half a moment before the vitae surged through her, her body tensing and twitching as though in a fit as it worked its way through her system. Her teeth bared in response to the flash of pain, the punishing ache of being so long without, before it was washed away in rapture and rejuvenation. What seemed like minutes was mere moments before she visibly relaxed back in her chair. She was always left drained, and yet, energized by his vitae, but the small vials she kept of him for when she could not see him didn't have quite the same effect. They weren't as potent as the small drop that still clung to his skin.

He saw the change immediately, as if she had a glow or an aura that was lifted from the energy he gave her. He wiped the trickle of blood clean, the wound healed immediately, no trace of it visible. As he watched her for any negative reaction, he also felt a pang of guilt, he had done this to her, made her crave the vitae that flowed through him. He tried to put those thoughts aside, for if he hadnt saved her in the only way he knew how that night, she wouldnt be sitting here with him now.

He recalled the night she lay craddled in his arms, the last of her life slowly ebbing from her. Her wounds were too grave for even him to heal and he had no other choice but to save her by giving her life Life, that wasnt life, you only saved her from eternal death he pushed himself out of the seat and dipped a cloth in some water "The sight of blood doesnt seem befitting of you" his smile returned as he cleaned the blood from her face, a small reminder of what he had made her become removed from sight if not from mind at least.

Visiting Wandress had been long overdue, something I should have done months ago. Now the bond between us has been rekindled and strengthened, I can at least take heart that she still appreciates my company. A being of her ability should not be tied to me so, I wish for her sake there were a way to at least rid her the need of the vitae that flows in my veins. She is a being of light, of life and giving, not to be tied to me....whatever I am.
Wandress had finally made a conscious decision to re-enter the temple life. Her renewed vigour from his vitae had restored an energy she had obviously been lacking, and for that he was happy. He remained in Bravia for a few more days while she returned to a more public life in the town she once knew so well. She would return with stories and news of people in the town, old and new every night, allowing them talk to one another for hours until sleep over came her.

One night she was later than usual and he wondered if a mass or request for healing had came to her while she was in the temple. He pulled on his cloak and silently made his way through the streets, only one tomcat giving him any notice with a hiss before it ran off into the darkness. As he neared the temple, he realised how much the building had changed, renovations and extentions had made it a far more imposing structure than he recalled. A movement in the distance caught his eye, his keen vision making out her figure as it moved among the head stones of the grave yard Maybe ive had more influence on her than I thought he smiled to himself as he pulled the collar of his cloak up around his ears to ward off a cold he couldnt feel. He watched her read the names and short eulogies, a little envy creeping through him, knowing he would be denied such a fate. He allowed her as much time as she needed before he would offer to escort her to her cottage.

Wandress felt him before she saw him. It wasn’t so intellectual a feeling as instinct, but rather a visceral pull, a faint prickling of her blood in her veins, as ethereal as a breeze tickling the back of her neck. She had barely been aware of it until she began recognizing it as somewhat regular, particularly when he was around. Particularly after he had just fed. Perhaps it had something to do with some sort of bond he often mentioned to her, but what sort, she had no idea. This sort of magic was beyond her realm of understanding.

Hephastion lurked in the darkness at the bottom of the trail, a faint silhouette except for his eyes. They always shone in the dark. ”Good evening, Hephastion,” she greeted him softly as he fell into a comfortable pace beside her. ”You’re out late,” he commented, looking at her briefly. ”What were you doing up there?” She smiled faintly into the darkness in front of them, taking the long path towards her cottage; Hephastion was a creature for privacy, and the longer route would afford them some. ”Giving the dead the only things I can; respect and remembrance. Even those I did not know.”

They followed the small path that had been neatly cut through the graveyard. He wondered how long it would be maintained like this before it naturally became overgrown and unkempt, the way it should be. Wandress stopped to glance at another head stone, offering a silent prayer to the deceased before she nodded to him with a slight shiver You want to linger here or are you happy to go back? he shook his head and offered her a hand "I dont think death effects me in the same way" his lips curled into a slight smile. She shook her head at the remark, glancing quickly at the offered hand, a gesture she was not accustomed too Just because you defy one of the constants in life Hephastion, doesnt mean you should mock it she smiled to let him know she was serious but was in no way angry at him. He couldnt help what he was and had his own way of dealing with the possibility of eternal existance, despite being dead himself.

She took his hand a little awkwardly as he led her back through the cemetry to the main gate. The streets were quieter at this time of year, something he enjoyed, the less populated an area was, the less likely he would stumble into trouble.

The path ran along the wall of the city, with small houses and gardens buffeting up against the stones on one side, and tightly clustered townhouses and less prosperous workshops on the other. The larger shops would be closer to the centre of the city, near the market at the city’s centre, the looming Town Hall that seemed to be under construction and improvements these days, and the city’s Basilica.

There were lights in most of the houses, with most residents retreating from the streets around darkness. Most residents. Hephastion and Wandress strolled casually through the streets as they made their way across the city to her cottage on the far side; truly, one of the few things to fear in the darkness was at Wandress’ side. A dog ran out from the darkened side of a house at them, wildly barking his challenge as they passed by, but otherwise their trip was spent in companionable silence.

She was still wrapped in her own contemplations on death, life, and Hephastion’s own predicament stuck somewhere in between them. What seemed to be a curious departure of nature instead felt quite natural to him, and the thought of any other alternative being a strange state of existence. It had been so long since he had been human, though he still retained many of his human mannerisms that she had come to recognize. Did he truly remember what it was like, or was it just an echo of a memory, witnessed patterns of behaviour in other humans he felt he should remember?

They reached the small cottage on the edge of the town, although he did wonder how long it would remain so. With the town expanding its buildings, the walls would no doubt be moving their boundaries soon. The idea of a larger town, a more dense population brought both repulsion and satisfaction to him in equal measure. A larger populous meant he could disappear more easily, and obviously more prey for him to target. The repulsion came from the fact the larger towns and cities attracted more unsavoury types. Thieves, cravens and worse. More militia to keep those types in line and busier drinking houses every night, meaning the streets were busier later.

He had been to larger cities with Modius, his Sire trying to convince him that their kind could prosper in such a place, building a network of vessels, admirers and even followers. The mans plan was to take over a city, as some kind of overlord, but Hephastion had wanted none of it, knowing full well the trouble he seemed to draw with monotonous regularity.

He sighed to himself when Wandress ushered him through the gate, bringing him back to the moment How long do you plan on staying in Bravia? he hadnt thought about how long he would stay. His home in Paz had lain empty for so long, he wondered if it were even still standing, there was the small cottage at the clearing, it was likely in need of repair but in better condition than his own place "You know I never gave much thought to leaving" he held open the door for her, the glow from the small fire he had prepared lighting up her features as she stepped in ahead of him.

Something wasn't right on this night, something familiar in the air that I have not felt in a long time. It took me a while to realize what it was.........Modius, but it couldn't be. I saw his ashes scatter in the wind all those years ago. It had to be another vampyr, another of this monstrous kind in my town. That would not do, not at all.
He felt the presence almost as soon as it was close to the town, but he tried to ignore it, hoping it was just his imagination, or what was left of it. He had not felt the presence of another vampyr in many years, but the stench of them was not one you would forget easily. Like death only something unnatural about it, he could only assume his own presence had the same effect on this vampyr. Maybe that is what drew it here.

He pulled on his worn boots and clipped his cloak about his shoulders, before leaving his run down cottage. Upkeep was not something he cared much for, the time he was destined to be around, it seemed like a pointless endeavor to buy fancy furniture and make his place look nice, for no one in particular. It wasn't as if he had many visitors. Well, this most recent, and very unwelcome visitor aside.

He made his way through the streets, the vitae coursing through his veins, ready for any encounter with this vampyr that was paying his town an unwelcome visit.
