Aerial Race, All Are Welcome - Emerald Prize!

Post by balerion »

In the past, the three different race masters that we have had over the years have held races with registered animals. Not so this one, anyone who wants can enter. Also dice will not be a factor in this race. Roleplay will be used instead to determine the victor. As ever the race will include several challenges and whoever is able to best navigate through them will be the victor. Fighting one another is not only allowed, but encouraged. The grand prize is an emerald to be given to whoever proves themselves most worthy. The only forbidden mount is a dragon. To enter bring yourself and your mount to the registration table to give your name, your mount's species, and your mount's name. Let the fun begin!

Note: Harass your neighbors to get a larger group of participants. The more involved the more fun there is to be had.

A troll eyed the emerald prize. "ooohhh! izza shiny, that!"

Logo called his increasingly out-of-shape mount, "Here Snack! Izza race a' startin... woo hoo... hippie-griffin!"

The burgeoning bird emerged from the deli with sausage links trailing from its beak. "Giddy ups over thissy way. Puts somma hurrish inna steps," the troll goaded.

As snack waddled toward the racing registration desk, Logo smiled at the waiting official, "HellyOOo your serpentyness, Sir Dragon.
Izza fine weatherses for more racings, yep?
Ehrm... izza interestated thissy troll inna aerializacious raceses.
Huh? Izza the mount comin' thissy way. See... izza round withy featherses?

after chickening out several times, a blue jay approached the great dragon and dropped a small parchment on the desk. It then flew back to a safe distance and began taunting the other candidates.
Name: Tourmaline
Species: Cyanocitta cristata
I am the chosen champion of Mayor Treant of Paz and wish to enter the race.

Balerion realized that not quite everyone would be familiar with the Aerial Races of the past. He knew it might be hard for an ent to ride in a race but perhaps it could be creative in how it was carried. He had participated from the beginning so it had slipped his mind. He chuckled at his oversight and then pounded a sign into the ground reading:

Entrants must ride upon a mount if they are unable to fly themselves. If that requires shrinking or any other modification to do have at it.

Callie, being Callie, had heard about the newest flying race and knew the new race was a race she had to fly in. After all, who loved flying more than her? Other than her baby hippogriff, Nodwin that is. (Amazing how the baby hippogriff hasn't seemed to grow at all and is still a baby isn't it? Almost as amazing as the fact that the four year old daring darling is still only four. Perhaps magic was at play here? No perhaps about it, magic was at play here, along with Callie, who was always at play here, there and everywhere.) Flying was just so much fun you know. Well it is, even if you didn't know until it was pointed out to you, flying was fun. Even more fun if you were a four year old toddling toddler with a baby hippogriff that loved flying almost as much as it loved Callie. And flying with friends was even better. And Callie of course knew that Logo was going to be flying with Snack. A little birdie might have told her. Well, not a little birdie, but a big one. Not so much a big birdie that is, but a big troll had told her and that big troll happened to be her most favoritest of big trolls and bestest troll friend, Logo.

Seeing as how Callie heard about the race, and knew she wanted to fly in the race, she of course had to go to sign up for the race, which meant that she and Nodwin had to leave the house, something she hadn't done in ever so long. Something that she also loved to do, as did Nodwin, who was already at the open window looking out longingly, waiting for Callie to say she wanted to go as much as Nodwin wanted to go, which of course Callie did. Callie bounded across the room. Well, not so much bounded, because how do you bound anyway? But she did hop, skip and jump across the room to Nodwin, because we all know the dimpled darling seldom does anything as mundane as walk now, don't we? Callie climbed onto Nodwin's back, held onto Nodwin, and whispered loudly (because what toddler do you know that knows that a whisper should not be loud?); Nodwin, lets fwy now. Callie gotted to go tell dwagon dat Callie wan fwy wif yew and wif Callie fwend Wogo in dat wace, obiekaybie? And off they went, because to no one's surprise, Nodwin understood the child perfectly, and wanted to fly anyway.

They twosome flew high and low, and then low and high, and finally reached the area that Balerion had set up to register for the race. Landing almost on the spot, well, on a spot anyway, Callie slid off of Nodwin's back and once again hop, skipped and jumped her way to a destination. This one was the registration desk, a fine destination for a four year old who wanted to race, wouldn't you say?

Callie beamed, her dimples deeply dimpling in her chubby cheeks, and then twittered; Hewwwoooo dwagggonnn fwenddd. Yew see Callie? Callie wite hewe, in front of yew. Yew know Nodwin wite? Nodwin and Callie wan fwy in yew wace wif Wogo and Snak an yew if yew fwying too, dat be obiekaybie wite? Hewwwwwwooooo Woooooggoooo, yew see Callie too wite? Callie wan fwy an wace wif yew an Snak, obiekaybie? Yew wike dat wite?

When it became clear to Tourmaline that he was banned from the race he roundly criticized everyone involved and left no doubt that he would have been the winner. Had anyone present spoken Jaybird, their ears might have fallen off from the coarse language. The bird then left droppings on the 'all are welcome sign' and flew off for Paz.

Othniel merely observed the gathering at first, then approached the posted announcement to read. It took him a while, for after many years living in the wilderness, he was out of practice. "A race, hmm? Interesting. My Savinia is fleet, but she cannot fly." His disappointment, however, was quickly overruled by an eagerness to race as an idea came to mind. It was said, that Medusa's Blood could turn a horse into a pegasus. But first he would have to acquire it. "Sir dragon," he addressed the creature officiating the matches. "How long until the races actually begin? I require time to make my mount suitable."

Well thus far only the regulars have showed up for the race. I wanted to get this one a bit larger especially since the prize involved is of such value. I will wait another week at longest. Perhaps I should send a letter to Karcier...

Callie and Logo it is most wonderful to see you both! Even if there aren't that many other racers I know that we will have fun like we always have. Lets face it, with wonderful people like us, its impossible to not have a good time!

One week later, Othniel returns to the racing ground leading a bay winged horse. "My quest has been successful. Savinia and I are ready to go." He grins and pats the pegasus as she tosses her head in excitement.
