Re: GRP Griffon Auction

Post by Logo »

Logo passed the auction, looked at the griffon and heard the bids.
The great bird looked tasty in a rather lean and muscular way.
"The bones look strong, but I'll bet the stringy meat would get caught in teeth" he thought.
Logo disliked teeth-flossing in general and knew he'd never have enough f-things to outbid the obviously hungry crowd.
He decided to walk on into the market.

"What's this?" Logo smiled, spying three great whopping eggs of a kind and size he'd not seen. "Wow. 24.95!"
He rushed to the chicken vendor in hopes of finding the bird that laid them.
Eying the feeble-looking chickens plucked and hung up for sale, it was obvious Logo was too late. The giant carcass had obviously sold quickly - doubtless after a bidding war and at a price not unlike that the griffon would bring.

The troll returned to the stall with the out-sized eggs. Their size would make a nicer snack and much easier to manage than tiny things on display at the other stalls.

Logo counted the tiny f-things from his pocket... and frowned. He would have liked to buy all three. There weren't enough coins.
The posted pricing sign ignored his attempt to negotiate a volume discount.
Still, the troll could not resist having at least one of those eggs.

He counted 25 f-things, took one egg and a tiny 0.05 frez-coin from the change bucket. Logo flipped the tiny coin into a beggar's cup.
Somewhere, something wrote:Feb 08, 1650 10:20 am: You have bought 1 egg from Adonair for 24.95
The large egg filled one palm almost completely.
Logo's mouth watered.

Carrying the egg gently to his house and placing it near the fire, Logo resolved to postpone his snack until his daily tasks were completed.
"Much to do, still." he mumbled, walking from his house in search of a cat vendor.

"77, i hear 77 freznics. What price do you put on a magic potion? For surely this fine animal will win some races gaining the owner magic items, fame and fortune... do i hear 80?"

Adonair gets word that the first of the three hippogriff eggs has sold to a humongous gentleman, he wonders if it might be his new student Logo.

What was this strange compulsion to bid on something that obviously ate more than any horse, or cow even, and gave no food product, no milk, eggs.. what was possessing her to bid so outrageously?
AuroraKiye heard some demented person use her voice, "Eighty frenzics."
Surely, she'd like to have one, but also as sure as she knew her own name, she couldn't afford a griffon, much less then feed it.

She hears the bid at 100 frenzics. Should she want a griffon or a hippogriff, now is the time. She decides, "102.50

OOC: What do we actually get if we purchase this?

I hear 120 freznics!!

OOC: Balerion, See the thread Aerial Races! OOC In preparation for an upcoming GRP for what the rules, costs and prizes are. In a nutshell, you pay for the animal to the town and you collect prizes by winning races, prizes will be in goods or magic potions, the ones that allow you to become a patron or boost stats. I've run tests and the griffon is the better racer at least for this first race, but not by a huge amount, anyone could win it, even with poor stats and a hippogriff. The strength stat seems to matter most for jockeys with dexterity mattering the least. With four racers and the jockey stats even (which they'll never be) the griffon wins 30% and comes in second 30%.
