(rp) A Wulfen's Way of Work

Post by Vulkus »

The day had started off well enough, moving from the far reaches of the snowlands to comedown and join the varied people's of this realm... there had been too much worry from the other packmates about whether it would be safe here or better to return home. As leader of the pack, Vulkus told the others, "return to the homelands and wait there, if it is good I will come to you in ten days time, if it is bad I will return and we will move on." They agreed to leave, begrudgingly, what pack leaves their alpha behind alone? The pack that follows their alpha's orders. He smiled as they wandered back into the trees, always looking back, always stutter-stepping in the loam. They did not want to leave him behind, but they knew they must. At last Vulkus turned and padded softly up the road his large paws raising dust on the road until a passing trader and wagon stopped and acosted him. The trader spoke to Vulkus welcoming him but they seemed disturbed that he wore no clothes other than the bone and amber necklace and bone earrings. The trader offered him two loaves of bread and a set of old trousers.... the trader apologised for the quality and dirtiness of them... Vulkus thanked him and offered assistance but the trader just told him to help out someone else and to "pay forward the dividends of your good fortune" strange turn of phrase that... Vulkus wandered on a little ways watching workers in the fields, and padded on through the town. It was here he found the training grounds. He decided some light sparring would be good for him to hone up his paw-to-paw fighting, but no one was about. He spoke with the training master and fought a dummy they had setup only briefly. He had to stop his training when he realized he was ravenously hungry. He thanked the training master and headed to the town's job board and sat down to eat one of his loaves. Then checked the board for a simple job... He spotted one working a wheat field and decided to take it, he spoke with the patron of the job and got to work. Cutting wheat with claws was easy and unlike the scythes the other workers used his claws did not dull as fast - they held a fine edge and he worked efficiently stopping now and then to take some water from a nearby trough. He noted the others took frequent breaks and the large field was likely to take the remainder of the day so he mentally checked back along his route, picked a good safe rock to sleep on top of back in the woods, and got back to work. Wulfen work hard and efficiently to ensure a job is done well and right. That is the Wulfen Way.

Days had passed - then weeks - Vulkus waxed and waned with the moon - sometimes food was scarce and times were lean sometimes it was plentiful. He had worked hard and managed to become better - the Main thoroughfare in the city wound out toward the woods he had come from and he visited with the pack when he could - between taking odd jobs here and there he also managed to work on the city guard taking a few shifts. he had begun growing corn in one of the fallow fields not being used that the city had allotted him now - just time to wait for the corn to grow and better himself in the meantime.
