Adonair is pacing around trying to soothe Callie while greeting some of the guests. Willow tags along behind him as they go from table to table. He makes small conversation and tries to get people to talk to Callie to distract her from the recent disaster. He was sure it could be undone, but Alexandra's magic was wild and it would take careful study for him to undo it. The creature's system had already undergone a horrible shock, another polymorph so soon could kill it.

When the door opens and William appears in the door, Adonair bustles over and reaches out a hand. "Ah William, you made it! Welcome, how was your journey?"

Arkie feels Nodwin's trembling, and the magic that transformed him still taints the air around her and the colorful toad. Nodwin's first urge seemed to have been to rush to see why Callie was crying, but her hand on his back restrained him. That urge faded and a shock began to take hold. His usual stature had allowed him to see face to face with most beings; however, his current height barely allows him to see above their ankles. He can see his Callie, but in so many ways he can't reach her, and her plaintive cries and sobs are causing him great discomfort, it seems. Inside his protective cage, the air is charged with emotion emitted from one small colorful amphibian: shock at his new size and how he warranted or became so small, shock at air against his skin as his furry coat has shielded his skin all his life, his distress at his new size, his inability to move, his inability to protect and save Callie from whatever was distressing her, and the oddness of his current size and abilities.

Arkie encloses the cage with a small spell and considers adding some flies as she considers that with the lure of food, perhaps Nodwin will lose the edge and the worst of his dismay with the excitement of the added chase of nutrition. She reconsiders as she remembers a tale of the Lotus Eaters. Taking a tablecloth offered by the Construct, Arkie covers the cage. Immediately, Nodwin's shock is intensified, then lessened as first the cover surprised him, then it hides from his view the overwhelming reminder of his current short stature, and without the visibility of the ankles and great immense statures in sight, he begins to calm, though he can still hear Callie's wails.

Alex cringed when she heard her grandfather yell her whole name. SORRY!!! I missed Damien. Alex green eyes teared up when she saw the damage she caused to Callie and Nodwin. Alex looks at her grandfather then Arkie. Nodding she rolls up her sleeves… or would have if she wasn't wearing a dress without sleeves. OK… I can do this; she said trying to remember the spell as she walks over to Nodwin. OK! Here we go; she said, looking from Nodwin, across the room to her grandfather, eyes lingering on the cake beautiful wedding cake that was brought out, then back to Nodwin as she recast the spell, but nothing happened. Nodwin you’re supposed to change back not stay a blue and purple toad. Nodwin are you listening?… then she heard a deep growl. Looking up Alex’s eyes got very big. Whoops… that wasn’t supposed to happen. Her grandfather was already mad; this would only make it worse. She needed a distraction, help, protection, something.

Alex turns to see her big brother come into the tavern. Protection!! Running she ducks behind him. Good to see you big brother but I think I did it again, she said, pointing to the dragon that was growing and making a mess on Grandfathers cake.

Arkie's disbelief grows with Nodwin's increasing size. She quickly escorts the growing creature out to the courtyard, while he can still fit though the Tavern door.

Nodwin's puzzlement at the increasing elevation of his view, renders him more or less unable to resist her leading him. As they stand in the cool air, Nodwin shivers in the cool damp air. Then, suddenly, he sneezes and collapses.

Willow followed Adonair from table to table; greeting guests and hugging and kissing her husband.

She hadn't noticed the spell but heard poor Callie crying and saw a toad on the floor. She knelt down and hugged the crying little girl (unsure what was happening?)

Suddenly the toad changed and grew in front of her eyes into a huge dragon. Willow screamed in fright and took Callie with her away from the danger. Max heard the scream and ran to his mistress to comfort her and the little girl. Willow looked around for Adonair and heard him yelling. There were people everywhere, were they in danger?

In the cool darkness outside the tavern, Arkie feels Nodwin's collapse. He'd gained stature to 2 human heighths, and suddenly he's sprawled on the ground, either fainted, comatose, or unconscious, or paralyzed by shock.

"ALEX!!! Come fix this!! Callie, come quickly!!" Arkie yells. She hopes that Callie's presence could comfort the fallen, stricken creature, and hopefully calm him.

Callie was beyond upset. More like majorly hysterical, her best and only pet friend went from being a baby hippogriff to a toad right before her very eyes. Well, not right before her eyes, she hadn't actually seen Nodwin change, she had FELT Nodwin change, and knew that her favorite auntie Alexandria was the culprit who did this to her friend, the whoops was a dead giveaway that her majik had gone
awry, in the most horrible of ways.

Adonair's shirt was being soaked by her tears, even taking her from person to person wasn't helping. Not even the entrance of William helped...well, it might have, had Callie even noticed that William had entered. Her entire being was focused on the now covered cage that held her precious baby hipp...toad.

Nodwin, who had actually calmed once the initial, and subsequent shocks had subsided, and when the cage was covered, could still hear Callie's weeping, and it was breaking Nodwin's poor tiny hipp...toad heart. Callie wasn't supposed to cry, not if Nodwin couldn't put wings around her to comfort her. Not if Nodwin's fur wasn't under her cheeks to soak up the teardrops. The cover did one thing Nodwin decided was good, it hid Nodwin from everyone's sight. That was good because Nodwin was a determined hipp...toad, and Nodwin knew Callie needed Nodwin. Once that cage was put down, Nodwin carefully escaped, hopping madly around chairs, under tables, and through legs, not wanting to be a squashed toad before Nodwin got to Callie. The blue and purple toad hipped and hopped until it couldn't hip or hop anymore, then hopped a little further, until it was hopping against Adonair's robes. I don't know if you've ever seen a frustrated toad, but Nodwin was now one, and let me tell you, it wasn't a normal sight. Nodwin, bless its little hipp...toad heart, couldn't figure how to get from the floor up to Callie, or how to get Adonair's attention so Adonair would put Callie down. (Nodwin had missed Callie being transferred from Adonair's arms to Willow's arms)

And with everyone's distraction with that silly dragon decoration that was becoming a real dragon, it was becoming more than apparent that Nodwin was going to be out of luck. Even baby hippogriffs turned toads couldn't hop high enough to get to Callie. The frustrated, worried Nodwin toad stopped hopping, titled its tiny toad head, tried to think, then hopped to William, hoping maybe since William had just gotten there, maybe William would notice a toad hopping onto William's foot. Hop, hop, hip, hoppppp Nodwin went on Williams's boots, becoming more and more desperate with each bounce, and hoping decorations turned real dragons didn't like toad snacks for appetizers.

As for Callie, she had gone from hysterical in Adonair's arms to hysterical in Willow's arms. Willow's beautiful dress was now being soaked with tears, even the presence of Max didn't calm her down, she wanted Nodwin, and she wanted Nodwin NOWWWW. Arkie's voice calling her name made her even more frantic. The normally dimpled darling's eyes were puffy and red, her face drenched, and she was doing her best to get down from Willow's arms to go see what Arkie wanted, hoping someone hadn't eaten her friend, or worse, that the dragon Alexandria had created hadn't made toad legs out of her Nodwin. Wiwwo, Callie go see Arkieeee, pweeeeseeeeeee...led Callie downnnnnnnn...

Willow heard Arkie call out for Alex and Callie and then she heard Callie speak to her. She was nervous but let the little girl down. Not wanting her to get hurt, she followed her outside and left Adonair yelling. Max also followed them outside.

Bemused Will watched from his spot near the door as the commotion seemed to swirl into a ball of chaos. Wailing girls, crying toads the crashing of a sister whom promptly hid behind him all melded with the background babble of the crowd. Pandemonium surrounded him, and it was grand. This was what family was all about the commotion, the laughter and the crying all mixed together... to be together. Which was why he was doubly glad he had brought his family along; his wife and their small babies in tow. Before he knew it though the mage had to shake his thoughts clear from his head as his grandfather bustled up to him and shook his hand. A broad smile grew upon his face as the young man pumped his grandfathers hand entusiatically.

“Congratulations!!! I’m so sorry we arrived late. We had some transport problems on the way down... I see the family is as rowdy as ever...” Spoke William with a significant glance at his sister now hiding behind him. Reaching out with one hand to pull said girl from behind and giving her a warm hug William was about to go on when a madly hopping toad began bouncing on his boot. Thinking that it was rather a curious sample of the species, Will bent down to pick up the poor thing as the sharp wail of a small child cried to be let down in the background. A grin threatened once again to take hold of his mouth as he recognised the piercing little voice of his little niece. She had definitely grown since the last time he had seen the rascal.

Continuing with his task though, William bent lower to examine the creature as he scooped it up. A frown crossed his face as the faint hint of something blue whiffed by tinged with an image. Pausing, William turned and raised an eyebrow at his sister as if to ask her “You again?” with that look before giving her a mildly reproachful look. He could still feel the swirl of his sister’s touch surrounding the creature as it vainly struggled to overcome the compulsion to stay in its new form. Raising the toad now to his eyes William stared into its soulful eyes and smiled gently. Resting one hand on the poor things head William closed his eyes and saw within it’s soul the true image of what it was. In its mind it ran free and flew in the sky with majesty and perfection. It was the sum of all its potential when it was full grown what it dreamed of, but it was also the baby that it still was. A shimmering took place as it’s will broke free of the magic encasing it...

“Gentle soul, cloaked in wings and crest;
Loyal guard armed with talons and claws;
Heart of a lion running through your veins;
But gentle steed from which you came.

A hippogryph you are, and a hippogryph shall you be”

Lifting his hand off the creatures head now, William looked into the beaked face of the small hippogryph and grinned patting it gently on the head once more. "There... that wasn't so bad now was it..."
