(ORP) Lysandra's weaving shop and home

Post by Lysandra »

After having spent months upon months working the mines, Lysandra finally saved up enough freznics to open her own shop. She had found a nice quiet spot, close to a lake and a waterfall, and she had built a small hut and had begun to grow vegetables in a nearby patch of land. In that same hut she also put all of her weaving equipment. She looked at it all and smiled, even though she had no idea what to do with it. She never liked wearing clothes. They always made her feel rather uncomfortable. Yet she did wear them all the time out of respect to the rest of the community. However, she had known she would enjoy making clothes.

And now, she had her own shop. The Viceregal Scribe had made all the arrangements upon taking her 800 freznics and he had also written a price list on her behalf. Since she was completely illiterate, unable to either write or read, she needed someone else to make the price list for her. And she hoped that the scribe wrote everything right and didn't fool her. Deep inside her mind, she knew she would also need to learn how to read and write, so that she wouldn't need to depend on others. And that would also help her immensely in her university studies, whether that would be attending classes or studying books.

She unfurled the parchment with the price list and nailed it on the wall:

Straw Hat - 2 workdays - 52f
Third Hand Quilt - 1 workday - 30f
Basic Shirt - 3 workdays - 45f
Tiny Shorts - 2 workdays - 38f
Tailored Leggings - 3 workdays - 60f
Sandals - 2 workdays - 48f
Rope Belt - 3 workdays - 46f
Intricate Skirt - 3 workdays - 68f
Pair of Boots - 2 workdays - 51f

Please, don't send written orders my way. I can't read them anyway.*
She looked at it and smiled, taking its contents more as a drawing rather than a block of text. She began to wander about in her hut, trying to figure out what each of the things she had been given does, in an effort to find out before people came into her hut asking for clothes and accessories.

*ooc: Don't be afraid to send an IG message or forum PM to me, if you want to. Remember, it's the character that's illiterate.

She spent a very long time trying to figure out how to use the equipment she had been given to make clothes. Such a long time that she got bored and found something more interesting to do. Studies. Even if she was totally illiterate when she began studying at the University, she struggled hard and, after many months of effort, trial and error, she managed to master all the knowledge that exists on her profession. At the same time, she also learnt to speak the local language and read. However, she still had a long way ahead of her to learn how to write. She still had studies to do to help improve her skills, but now she had more time to spend on her shop. And she was also happy to teach her already acquired skills to others who wanted to learn from her.

And it was one of those days she spent in her shop, when she realised that her mastery in weaving allowed her to make more items than she had used to when she first opened her shop. Thusly, she went to the Viceregal Scribe to ask him to write a new price list down for her shop, not because she thought it was part of his tasks, but only because he was the only person she knew that knew how to write. After spending quite some time to convince him to write the price list for her, she eventually returned to her shop with a large rolled parchment under her arm. She immediately tore the old price list and nailed the new one in its place:

Straw Hat [2 days] 50f
Third Hand Quilt [1 day] 30f
Basic Shirt [3 days] 50f
Tiny Shorts [2 days] 40f
Tailored Leggings [3 days] 70f
Sandals [2 days] 40f
Rope Belt [3 days] 35f
Intricate Skirt [3 days] 70f
Pair of Boots [2 days] 45f
Beautiful Sail [2 days] 80f
Book Cover [2 days] 25f
Fluffy Pillow [1 day] 50f
Grant Bag [1 day] 40f*
Cloth Apron [2 days] 60f
Leather Apron [2 days] 70f
Leather Belt [3 days] 40f

*Price calculation considers a cost of 5f per piece of parchment, but price may change depending on parchment costs.
After giving it a quick glance to make sure everything was as it should be, she immediately began to work on some basic clothes for herself and others to wear, while waiting for any possible orders for something specific to come her way.

She had received an order to make a sail for someone and she had put herself to work on it immediately. Five days later, the sail was ready and she put it on display, attaching a note she hastily scribbled on it, hopeful that no one else would buy it.
Sail on market at 80F order for Damien_Braeden.

If you not Damien_Braeden dont touch it.

Please.

Me can make you another sail, if you likes sails so much.

As soon as she finished the work on the first sail, she received another order from the same person to make another sail. She began her work on it immediately and, about five days later, the new sail was ready. She put it on display and attached the same note she had used for the first one a few days earlier, since it was for the same person after all.

Several days later, she received another order of two sails this time. With the mayotroll's help, she managed to get all the materials she needed and, in a few days' time, she managed to finish working on both sails. She put both of them in display and attached a small note on one of them.
Two sails on market at 80F each
Order for Damien_Braeden.

Nothing really significant had happened in the meantime. She had kept studying and teaching at the University, while working on a few orders, mainly for sails and belts, at the same time. Until one day, she realised she could create a few things more in her shop. She was really surprised because she had mastered all weaving skills a long time before and she couldn't expect she would ever be able to get new knowledge of this kind out of nowhere. Yet she was indeed able to craft a few items more and that meant she needed to update her price list to let the people of Cork know about it. Her quiet life might even have made them believe she had given up making clothes for the people.

She would normally go to the Viceregal Scribe to ask him to make a new price list for her, since he was still the only person she knew that could write so well and who she could trust with this task. However, the months she had spent teaching and studying at the University had also helped her learn how to read and write and she had become a bit more familiar with the local language. She also had the old price list available, in order to copy anything she couldn't word properly by herself from it. She took a large piece of parchment and carefully copied the old price list on it, organising it in categories and leaving enough room to add the new items she was able to make at the end of each category. Once she was done, after having put a lot of effort to make the text readable, she let the ink dry and then she nailed the parchment on the wall, on the same spot where the old price list had used to be:

Head Equipment:
  • Straw Hat [2 days] 50f
Torso Equipment:
  • Third Hand Quilt [1 day] 30f
    Basic Shirt [3 days] 50f
Legs Equipment:
  • Tiny Shorts [2 days] 40f
    Tailored Leggings [3 days] 70f
    Intricate Skirt [3 days] 70f
Feet Equipment:
  • Sandals [2 days] 40f
Pair of Boots [2 days] 45f
Belts:
  • Rope Belt [3 days] 35f
    Leather Belt [3 days] 40f
Boat:
  • Beautiful Sail [2 days] 80f
Body Armor:
  • Cloth Apron [2 days] 60f
    Leather Apron [2 days] 70f
    Leather Jerkin [3 days] 55f

  • Book Cover [2 days] 25f
    Fluffy Pillow [1 day] 50f
    Grant Bag [1 day] 40f*
    Bandage [1 day/2 pieces] 20f/piece
    Piece of Cloth [2 days/3 pieces] 16f/piece
