"In that case, I'll wait here, until you've had enough to eat. I'll do some short flights and if you don't come back in time, I'll just go back to the cave and find a place to sleep."

She flexes her wings and flies to the edge of the clearing, and back. Looking up at the cave entrance, she nods to herself and then ascends again, this time flying rather high and then glides toward the cave.

Balerion takes some venison back with him so Aurora can have some later then glides over to the river and dives in.

The dragon's wingspans are greater, as well as his flight more practiced. He's in and out of the cave before she gets there, leaving a large venison leg in the cave for her.

After she lands, she picks it up and takes it to the kitchen. The dragon can eat all the raw meat he wishes, but her dinners will be cooked, and venison is something that must be handled with care.

She prepares it and finds some cookware for it, places it in the oven and stokes the fire. The spices will no doubt cook into the meat, as the low heat roasts the venison. Maybe there's some vegetables around somewhere in the kitchen? But after a rather thourough search, she can't find any, so she leaves the cave and looks in the nearby fields and streams for such things as wild onion, garlic, watercress, wild carrots, and roots.

After finding enough to feed her for a couple meals, she returns to the kitchen and places the prepared vegetables around and on the meat. She closes the oven door, and decides that after all that, she truly needs a good long bath.

The river water is rather cool, but that's alright. Just a short time after immersing, she doesn't feel the cool, so she bathes and swims a bit, before returning to the cave and finding her bed again.

She dreams of being with her family again. Her mother looks the same as she always did, maybe content, and her father seems to be happier than she's seen him in a long ... well, had seen him in a long time. The ban that her land had against magic of any kind seemed to have made her father anxious and sad, as when they weren't around others, when it was just the two of them working in the barn or in the shed, he would laugh and joke with her.

She remembers that her mother's eyes were brown, deep brown, and that her mother often would pull her hair back into a bun except when she was heading for bed, or during the winter. There's suddenly a sound that wakes her, the sound of someone crying, sobbing as if their heart is breaking, as if they've lost their best friend. Arkie wakes suddenly, disoriented, and concerned about whomever that is that is crying so hard. After a bewildered moment, she realizes that that someone is her. She burrows into the bed, covers herself with the sheets and bedding, and cries more, remembering that that dream is the only thing she has of her family.

Her heart breaks again, remembering all that she lost that night. Her grandmother, not often smiling, but always loving; her grandfather, coughing in the winter, day and night, bent and stooped by hard work; her baby brother, just walking, and so happy almost always, laughing and flapping his arms; her brother just younger than her, always pestering her, full of life and joy, almost always shirking his work, and her older brother, a young and serious version of her father.

She cries hard for all of them, but mostly for herself. They died in terror that night, but died swiftly. She lived restrained before that night, and after that one night, spent ten years in horror, hurting, alone and scared, abused, terrorized. Her tears flow brand new when she realizes there could be no happy reunion with her family, no joyous return to her home.

After some time, she drifts back to sleep, but doesn't find them again. When she wakes a bit later, she struggles to get free from the sheets which seem to have engulfed her. As soon as her feet hit the ground, she walks slowly, almost disassociated, toward the kitchen to find some water to drink.

The drink of cool water helps her, so she splashes some cool water on her face. There's a smell in the kitchen of roast venison, so she spends some moments checking on it, and turns it over in the pan, replacing the pan in the oven, and closes the door. She sags against the table, her wings and arms drooping.

In a flash, she runs to the mouth of the cave and jumps off the ledge, falling for a few feet before opening up her wings and gliding to the river. Landing on the shore, she just walks straight into the rushing water and stopping when it reaches her chest, and just stands in it. A thought at last comes into her head, and she mulls and ponders over it. "Why after all these years, why do I now remember them? I've tried before, and never succeeded. Why now?"

She stands in the rushing water for some time, and only realizes that she should move when the sun reaches a point in the sky that causes it's reflection to hit her in the eyes. With a quick jerk of her body, she awakens from her trance and retraces her steps to the shoreline.

There, at the edge of the shore is a huge rock, a boulder that makes a convenient stop and seat for her. Her wings are heavy with water, so she unconsciously flaps them, casing a spray of tiny droplets to ist the air, and a flurry of dry leaves and bits of grass to dance in the dust.

Sitting on the rock, her wings splay open, and she spends some time watching the river.

"Bal!?!" she says loudly, looking around. "Bal, are you close by?"

Balerion lifts his head when suddenly it appears someone decided to sit on him. "You could say that." Balerion laughs and dives into the water.

The rock she was sitting on seems to be not a rock but Bal. Surprised at this, she's not able to get off him and gets taken into the river. As soon as she re-enters the cool water of the river, she starts shivering. She struggles to get her feet on the riverbed, so she can get back out of the water.

As she reaches the shore, her shivers grow worse. Huddling with her arms wrapped tightly around herself, she again flaps her wings to get some of the water out, but that only creates more breeze, which cools her even more. Her lips are blue from the cold and she's already feeling the cold to her core.

Balerion sets a nearby tree on fire to help Arkie warm up a bit.

Walking to the burning tree, Arkie smiles at him through her shivers and says, "Thank you, you're a sweetie."

She huddles very close to the tree, and begins to feel the warmth exuding from the tree. After a few inutes, her shiver stop, and gradually her lips return to their normal red. Backing up a bit from the fire, she extends her wings and flaps them a bit, feeling the warmth of the fire in her core. Her clothes dry on front but the back of her clothes are still wet, so she turns away from the fire.

"I think that after I warm up, I'll go eat some of the deer roast. It should be done by now. Have you had enough to eat? Do I need to hurry, dry and chase you out some more deer?"

After a good meal of roast venison with vegetables, she cleans the kitchen, and lays in the kindling and firewood in the stove for later. She finds a room attached to the kitchen that she decides will make a good cold room, and after filling the room with ice, she puts her leftover roast and the rest of the vegetables in it, on a shelf so it immediately begins to chill.

She explores only a little before she finds Bal's indoor water pool, from which she takes some water and heats it for a bath. Then, she takes a nice warm bath, and goes to the bed where she slept earlier and falls into it, and immediately sleeps. When she awakens, she explores the huge cave, and looks for Bal, who seems to not be home yet.

After a good meal of the cold venison, she walks to the outside and takes to the wing, and flies around until she gets her bearings, then flies to her home in Cork.
