Aerial Race #2

Post by balerion »

Please register your mounts if you wish to take part in the upcoming Aerial Race. The race will be held in three days. There is to be no entry fee for this race and the grand prize is a ruby circlet. Registered mounts include animals purchased from myself, Akantha, or Adonair. There are still four last Hippogriff eggs on sale in the Corkian mount if you are looking for one. ;)

I suppose perhaps I might want to enter my own mount to get things rolling.

Having reconfigured his buttered-bread/NeighborCat, anti-gravity contraption, Logo visited the racing commissioner's office.

" h'Elloooo ..." he called.
"mmm yesses .
Imma like to enter thissy troll anna hippie-griffon inna aerialistic race.
Izza name 'Snack'

Logo answered the bureaucrat's questions politely.
"Not the troll ... the bird. Troll izza nameded 'Logo'

izza spelleded L ...withy ogo at th'end.

No. Cat izza not co-pilot. izza ingredient inna perpetyual-paradoxing engine.
"
to which he added a mumbled, 'lessy cat don't work ...
then maybehaps ingredientiated inna condiment ... anna calleded 'snack,' too...
' ;)

At the commissioner's mention of co-pilot, the troll looked around for signs of his former flying companion.

Callie had been ill for days, or was it weeks, or maybe even months. Her parents had been very worried and wouldn't let anyone in to see her, even her auntie Alex, which was unusual since her auntie Alex lived with them. They were scared that Callie wouldn't make it, and had told her auntie Alex that it was touch and go, though Callie hadn't understood what that meant since she wasn't touching anything but the bed and her sheets and her blankets and her dollie and none of those things were going anywhere. Maybe they meant her baby hippogriff, which for some reason wasn't much of a baby anymore, but was still the size of one. Perhaps her baby hippogriff stayed small so Callie could still ride, since Callie wasn't very big herself. Her parents had even called in specialists, though that was another confusing word for Callie. How were they special? All they did was poke and prod and shake their heads and look sadly at her mommy and daddy. That wasn't special, Callie was special, her daddy and mommy told her that all the time, and they were nothing like Callie. Why they didn't even bother to smile, not even when Callie tried smiling at them. One of them even said they cursed her to her daddy and mommy, or was it that she was cursed? It was very unclear since she had been dozing at the time.

Anyway, now Callie was better, much to the surprise of all of those unspecial specialist peoples who kept coming into her room. In fact, Callie was so much better that she decided that she could go outside, something she missed almost as much as she missed riding Nodwin or seeing her friends or playing or hugging her auntie or running or jumping or climbing...well, you get the picture, she was ecstatic that she could go outside, and even had her daddy and mommy's permission to go outside. They only said that since she was weaker than normal, that she could walk beside Nodwin or ride on Nodwin's back, but not fly with Nodwin. Now Callie did not like this limitation, because Callie loved to be high in the sky, the higher the better. Feeling the air rushing through her curls and singing and feeling Nodwin's wings flapping while she was on Nodwin's back was the bestest feeling in the whole world. Callie was determined to find a way to be up in the sky, even if it wasn't on Nodwin's back...Nodwin would be so disappointed if Nodwin knew Callie's thoughts because Nodwin liked when Callie rode in the sky on Nodwin's back as well, and Nodwin didn't like Callie riding on anyone else's back when Nodwin's back was perfectly capable of carrying the cuddly cutie pie.

Well, with the thought of flying foremost in Callie's fantastical mind, Callie went into town, hoping to find her bestest friend Logo and Logo's wonderful friend Snack, because Callie might be able to talk Logo into letting her fly him. As luck would have it, though how luck had anything is odd, Callie found her friend Logo in the spot Callie got to fly with Snack and Logo for the first time. And where was that you ask? Well, I'm glad you did, because Callie found them at the sign ups for the next Hippogriff flying races. And Callie being Callie, did not even hesitate to run up behind Logo, calling out Wooooogggoooooo, Snakkk, wook it Callie. Yew see Callie, wite hewe. Wogoooo? Yew see Callie, wite? Callie ran as fast as her tiny tubby legs could carry her, and leaped (well, hopped, since she wasn't really feeling up to a leap) onto Logo, hugging Logo tighty. Wogo, Callie misseded yew. Yew fwying now? Callie wan fwy wif yew and Snak way hiiii inna skyyy. Dat be obiekaybie? Ohohohoh, Callie fwy wif Nodwin inna wace too? Dat be obiekaybie, dat no today wite? Yew tell dem sign Callie and Nodwin up to fwy too?

I am most pleased to see you doing well little one. There will be a race when at least one more mount is registered. I hear that perhaps Baroness Aishe or Akos might enter the race.

"WOO!" shouted the troll."Izza th' co-pilot anna trollishy opera singer extra-ordinaairy-like!"
With a great grin, Logo grabbed the small human tossed her lightly into the air. "Izza you can fly anywhen" and "tail hug!" he called deftly plucking her from the air and through a gentle spiral arc toward the ground.
Snack squawked and pecked at the ground trailing the child's feet.

"Imma misseded y'Ou too! Izza goody, huh? 'nother races?" Logo said and wriggled his nose. "you r'member thissy izza cat what lives next door. Izza calleded, 'neighbor's cat' ... izza fatter now ... hadda put more butter inna anti-gravishy engine for balance.
Izza the Nodwin here? Imma not see him.
"

Hearing Callie ask to fly the troll nodded enthusiastically, "Imma think a practicy flight might be the bestest thing." Logo mumbled a short incantation and retrieved a small paste-board box from his pocket. He opened it an offered the contents to the child. "Izza hungrish? Imma just happen to have a batch o 'specialy-greasish frieded chickhen legses ... Callie-sized wiithy sweet-crunchy-honey batterers.
Maybe we canna share THISSY snack ... thenna ride inna sky onna THAT Snack
"

Race registration is now closed. It seems it will be an interesting contest with just the three of us. The race will have 4 legs as usual. Please mount your racers now!
(19:38:20) balerion: balerion logo callie
(19:38:22) Idunno (Tavern Wench): balerion rolls 1d6 and gets 3.
(19:38:26) Idunno (Tavern Wench): balerion rolls 1d6 and gets 3.
(19:38:29) Idunno (Tavern Wench): balerion rolls 1d6 and gets 5.
Callie seems to take a fast lead with her tiny weight on Nodwin with Logo and Balerion keeping pace behind her on Snack and Puck respectively. The trees are approaching ahead for the second leg of the race as open grassland rushes below those flying far above.

Before the troll knew what was happening, the race had started.
At the signal Snack swooped under the troll at a run.
The great bird swayed sideways and back as the troll fumbled with the uncooperative cat and gobs of butter melting from his platitudinal-paradoxical, altitude-assistance-device v2.1.

Once in the air Snack leveled off next to the great dragon's mount, Puck.
Logo laughed at unlikely sight -- oblivious the farcicality,of his own predicament.

When the little Callie and her bird hurtled past them both, Logo gasped, :o "oooo. izza fast that one, Nodwin... "
The troll shouted and cheered, "Go Callie! WOOO!"

Looking over at the troll from the Griffon Balerion smiled and shouted It seems we have some competition to deal with! I wonder how she will manage in the trees?

Balerion then plunged lower hoping to be able to get ahead of the other two in the forest so he didn't have to give up some of his treasure.

Callie clapped her pudgy little hands with glee (happiness people, you know what that is right? well Callie does), hugged her bestest troll friend, arms and legs since she did not have a tail, clapped some more, and totally enjoyed t heir practice snack with Snack and Logo, along with the practice flight. Before she knew it, the wonderful dragon friend called for the start of the race. Those pesky flight officials didn't even give much warning for Callie to finish digesting the crispy crunchy chicken legs, though Nodwin seemed to enjoy the bones she dropped for the baby hippogriff.

Totally excited to be flying (shhhh, don't tell her parents, the short practice flight with Logo and Snack was already pushing it you know, and it had not really been long enough for her to justify being up on Nodwin's back, though this is Callie, so trying to justify it had not even crossed her curly haired little mind), Callie giggled and climbed up on her friend Nodwin's back when Nodwin kneeled to let her (and boy did Nodwin look happy to have the child where Nodwin felt she belonged instead of flying without Nodwin). Then with a running start, Callie sang out fwwwwyyyy Nodddwwwinnnnn, and fly they did, the baby hippogriff's expression translating to Nodwin's entire body as they took an early lead, Callie waving and singing back to her friends. Fun, fun, fun. We hab funnnnn innnaaa sunnnnn, fwying, fwyyying, fwwwwyyyinnnggg wiffff fweeeendddddssss...
