His mine was in turmoil. He sipped at his ale and absently greeted his fellow landsfolk.
Each time the door opened his heart gave a lurch but it never was his Lady.
Cradling his ale mug in both hands he stared into the fire, watching the dancing flames.
'Shall I? Tonight? But,,,,what if......she says "No"' the thoughts tumble through his mind.
'She must know what my feelings are for her by now.'
'I shall not wait. I shall ask her tonight!'
Satisfied that he had come to a decision he awaits nervously for his Lady to arrive.
The door swings open and there she stands, shaking the rain from her cloak.
Lbh puts down his mug and approaches her. Taking her cloak he escorts her to the seat by the fire calling out for some drinks as he did so.
When she seemed to be settled he says, " My Love, I have something to ask of Thee. It has been on my mind these past days."
He stands in front of her, gets down on one knee and takes her hand in his.
Looking into her eyes he speaks softly, his voice filled with emotion, " My Darling Love. I have but one question for Thee. 'Tis a very important question for mine."
He pauses.
" My Love, Thou knowst of my feelings for Thee and one hopes that Thou have same for mine. Therefore, willt Thou consent to become mine Wife?"
"To share what little I have with Thee. To live the rest of our days as Husband and Wife."
He reaches into his pack and holds the ring out to her.
He nervously awaits her reply.
