Juan nodded in agreement and went outside to see what crazy thing the wild child had done now. He went out to the animal pens.
He came across the sheep munching on the grass. It looked like they had eaten the grasses down to the roots. He really needed to move them to another pasture. Joy and Luna trailed along beside him. He was always giving them treats. The dogs loved Juan and Serene. When Serene went to the caravan, Juan kept the dogs as they were not invited to go there. This meant that Juan had the dogs a lot of the time.

Juan had trained the dogs to help him with the animals. They were very smart and learned quickly. The dogs and Juan rounded up the sheep and put them in another pasture where the grass was longer. Juan had found the sheeps sheered to perfection by the worker he had hired in the morning. The wool was set in neat piles. Juan sat down and carded the wool and then spun it into yarn. Then he washed the wool and collected the lanolin to sell at the market.

Juan butchered the pig Serene had given him. It was plump and the right size for slaughter. He kept half of the pig for himself to eat and put half in Serene's storage so she could make some bacon later.

On his way back from all his chores, he found four cows delivered and tethered to a fence. He unto tried the cows and led them to another grassy field to roam. He closed the gate.

He headed back to the house and was met by a peasant messenger. The peasant informed Juan that Serene was expected at a birthday party. Juan thanked the peasant and hurried inside to relay the message to Serene.

Serene was sitting by a window reading a book.

"Miss Serene, you have a birthday party to go to. Did you forget?"

Serene was in another world, the world created by the book. "Huh?" She looked up dazed having to think what it was that Juan had said. "A party! A birthday party! Oh yes I have to get ready!" Serene carefully set down the library book on a nearby table. . She pet Luna then Joy as they followed Juan. "You be good and stay with Juan. I have to go to the caravan for a party!"

She hurried to her bedroom to pick out a dress. She had chosen it when she had gone shopping with Baby. It was a beautiful orange dress with lots of flouncy ruffles. She carefully combed her unruly curls till all the tangles were gone and her hair shone.

She was so excited her feet barely touched the ground as she left her house and headed for the caravan.

Juan took the time while Serene was off at a party to straighten up the house. He fed and watered the animals. He wished Serene would get chickens again. He liked collecting eggs. Maybe he would get some chickens for his yard. He liked having a pig at his house. Juan worried that Serene might move out of her house and move to the caravan. He hoped she would not as he felt uncomfortable there.

Serene came back from the birthday party in a daze. The party had been stunning! The cakes, fireworks, bonfires, painting, archery, contests, and she had gotten to hold Ryker! She hoped Ryker would have parties every year like that. It was so fun yet it went by in the blink of an eye it seemed. "Why can't we have parties every day?! They are so fun!" Serene asks Juan as she ambles into the house. Juan spoke but Serene was in her own memories and didn't listen to his reply. Serene sleepily headed down the hall to get a good night sleep. She thought she would never be able to sleep after all the excitement, yet she was asleep within moments of her head resting on her pillow. It had been a long action packed day.

Several weeks later...

Serene awoke bright and early. It was cold, very cold. The cold weather had taken a toll on her wheat harvest. Only six bags of wheat had been collected. The cows were lowing softly waiting for their food. For the first time ever, Serene didn't just feed all of her cows. She only fed those whose health needed some boosting. The cows that didn't get fed looked at her reproachfully. She told them they could eat grass, but they wanted their wheat breakfast they were used to.

It was so cold! Serene built a big fire in her fireplace to get warm.

For the first time in a long time, or maybe ever... Serene's cow pasture was empty. She didn't have enough wheat to support having cows. She looked at her wheat field and hoped Juan would be able to encourage the person who takes the job to work hard.

She was glad for the distraction of the snowball fights. And actually not having cows meant less work... Maybe that would give her more time to find snowballs! She needed to get better at finding them. The weather was too warm in Bravia and if you didn't find the falling snowballs quickly they melted.

She got hit in the face by a few. Some people just seemed to have better aim than others. She was proud of the ones she had managed to dodge. Serene had succeeded in pelting her share of others. " Hee heee!" She giggled and prepared to find more people to surprise unexpectedly with a stray snowball throw! So much fun and joy to share!

Serene looked outside at all the snow and wished the snowball fight wasn't over already. It was so fun...

She noticed that Juan was quiet thinking about something. "What is it? What are you thinking?" Serene skipped about like a wild child.

Juan looked at his boss,a wildly skipping child. "Oh, I was missing the chickens. You know the pantry is getting low on eggs?"
Juan smiled. Serene 's joy was infectious. Juan loved tending to the chickens. They liked him. He was always finding extra eggs. Hiring people to work fields was boring in comparison he thought.

"Oh! Lets raise chickens again!" Serene shouts excitedly. "We just finished a harvest. So it is the perfect time! You go pick out some chickens and I will get the coop ready!"

Juan looks up surprised yet again by Serene's impulsiveness. It did keep things exciting. He smiled and nodded his head at Serene. "Ok, I will head off to get them now." He watched as Serene headed to the coops. He smiled knowing there would not be much for her to clean as he always kept it ready just in case. He worried a bit if they had enough corn stockpiled.

He strode to the marketplace and found the viceroyalty's chickens. He was horrified! They looked sickly. (79%) He wondered what was wrong with them. Usually the VR had healthy animals. He picked the four healthiest, paid for them and headed home.
