A Hunt

[Aida]

Af that head spinning conversation, Aida made to speak, changed her mind and simply nodded instead.

"Right you ar- oh, you're already gone." Considering the direction Alder went speeding off in, she looked around once again. She had been sure she had heard something other that Alder, perhaps a zyrk or a yvyrm was hiding in the bushes after all? Gathering her things, she consulted the map and considered her surroundings once more, pulling her quiver into a more comfortable position and wishing she had brought those small game traps after all.

"Straight on, I think," she murmered to herself, and set off in the decided direction, with the sound of the river bubbling in her ears. ((38))

Texas: You see a panther which runs away to the east.

Alder: You find a trap that you are able to take with you.

Aida: You hear a loud growl somewhere ahead of you.

[Texas_Knight]

TK sees the panther and tries to creep up on it. About 15 feet from the cat he steps on a branch and it snaps, alerting the cat to his presence. The cat bounds off to the east and TK growls and gives chase catching up to the beast should be no problem if the terrain stays like it has been the last few miles. He hopes others are having more luck than he has so far.

[Aida]

Suddenly, a loud growl sounded from the undergrowth. She froze in her tracks, drawing an arrow as silently as she could muster. Wishing she had brought more armour, she stepped as close as she dared before waiting, her senses heightened. After a moment, she decided to be brave and persue, moving into the area she thought the sound was coming from. ((50))

[Silence]

What the hell? A trap? Who left this thing? Why was it- ah, to hell with it. A simple bear trap wasn't too difficult to disarm and take with him. Alright, now what else was around here? Somebody had to have left this thing, right?

Alder stared at the ground, looking for some sign of somebody to pass by. Something, anything... no? Imposs- wait a second. Were those paw tracks? And didn't that look like... yeah. Alder knew his friend well, and so his tracks weren't difficult to discern. But still, he'd have never left a trap. He could probably outrun TK, but he doubted that he'd catch up to him before he caught the cat that he had been following... ok, not worth it, all he'd end up doing would be following in his wake and catching only what his friend had missed... yeah, that wasn't going to be much knowing TK.

The tracks lead East, and so Alder picked another direction. Looking down, he saw a few strands from a torn cloth hanging on a thorn bush. A little further on, a bush had been slightly bent back. Well, this would either be a random direction, or it would lead to whoever set that trap... people who set traps didn't necessarily hunt directly, but they might know where some good pickings might be found... it wasn't like he had a better direction to move in anyway. If he didn't find whoever left this, so be it, he needed to keep moving anyway.

Texas: You close in on your prey. You can likely preserve its pelt if you use your potion or save it for later.

Aida: You find most of the forest has now fallen silent.

Alder: Through the trees you spot a very old looking tower. There is no sign of who built it, but it looks like it could be unsafe.

[Texas_Knight]

TK catches up to the panther and the beast turns on him with a mighty swipe. TK avoids that hit and brings his claw down on top of the panther's head, knocking it unconscious. Next he slits the beasts throat and lets it bleed out. He skins the cat and prepares the meat for cooking and then takes the bottle of potion he was given by the old lady. He applies that to the skinned pelt and hangs it out to dry while he enjoys the meal. The next day he decides to move farther into the woods.

[Silence]

A trap that had no place being there and now this? Well, what the hell. It didn't exactly look safe, but the likelihood was that this wouldn't last too much longer... might as well take a risk and hope that something had made a home in there or something.

Alder dropped his trap at the entrance and then walked in through the door of the tower. Technically, if this thing fell on him, he'd be in trouble, but he had confidence that he'd be able to get out... somehow. It would all depend on exactly how the rubble falls. He'd have to calculate the paths of all visible blocks and then figure out which bits needed to be made weightless to give himself a path out of here.

To be honest, he didn't expect to find anything here, but curiosity got the better of the changeling. If there was something here... well, then he wanted to know about it.

[Aida]

The forest had fallen quiet, no noises except the twittering of the birds and the almost indistinguishable rustling of tiny creatures and the wind as it gently played with the treetops. Nothing here then, she thought, putting her arrows back in their quiver and stepped out into an opening in the forest to let the sun warm her face. There might not be much luck, but it was definitely a pleasant day for a walk in the woods. Opening her eyes, she gazed around at the myriad of colours that made up the undergrowth before checking her map and choosing a new direction to head in. ((49))
