Morjiana made no attempt to disguise being unimpressed by the creature's claims of being in love or soulmates or whatever nonsense the two of them were entangled in. She took a sip of the tea and gave both her niece and Varann a long, considering stare as she thought. Her niece's happiness did in truth matter to her, but she had never found that affairs of the heart were a good path to happiness, and more often than not, her nieces' romances tended to create at least as much unhappiness over the long run. A good Roma partner, she felt, would have ameliorated much of that, but it seemed she would never know for sure as her nieces were determined to court gaje. Zuan, at least, had turned out to be a halfway decent sort of gaje so far, which left her inclined to be marginally more open minded about this one. Particularly since Mallory had seen fit to seek her approval, a step that Morjiana very much felt her other nieces should have done as well.

"I know nothing of your people," she said evenly to Varann after a long pause. "I don't know your traditions or beliefs. And I certainly don't know you well enough to judge if you are a creature worthy of my niece. Mallory is a good girl, but subject to her emotions, and thus not a good judge of this either," she added, giving the girl a stern look.

Smiles faintly as it was an understandable set of questions but really in xer mind they had only one answer
"Then is now not a good time to ask questions especially those questions whose answer will aid your judgement?"

She curled up quietly listening to them speak, taking a sip of the brew in her cup, the potent scent of strawberries clouding up around her, bringing a smile to her face. She let them speak and when her bibio sat back with a comment to her emotions she couldn't help the laughter bubbling up, "Bibio it's my emotions Varann balances, insisting I be practical, acting as my champion. It's xer that insisted xie oversee the building of a home on my land. A base. Which you know is so important for a creature in my condition. And xie is following traditions as told to xer as best xie can. Xie moved to a town in a viceroyalty not xer own for me, bibio. So that I don't have to loose my family, the closeness of my natsia to move to xer." She smiled and then fixed her face into a looks of serious contrition eyes still smiling at her aunt.

Slightly surprised at her niece's equanimity, and encouraged that perhaps this creature was indeed a stabilizing influence on the girl, Morjiana decided it was perhaps time to issue a test.

"Questions? Aye," she said thoughtfully. "Tell me then, what are the best and worst things you have ever done?" Morjiana asked as she let an unseen tendril of her awareness creep out to explore Varann's aura.

xie gave the question some serious thought before answering, as there had been many things xie had done over the centuries. thinking about each of the actions xie was most proud and ashamed, xie noticed theere seemed a common thread to them, that seemed to come from xer core needs to protect and help others grow and change.

"i think the best things i have ever done is giving people the tools to grow and change. and the worst things i have ever done are the times i have failed to protect the people who needed it" xie then sipped xer tea as the nerves were making xer throat dry.

Morjiana nodded, setting her tea down to give the creature Varann her full attention. "Tell me of the last thing you did to help another grow. And tell me how that reflects the values of your people."

She managed not to roll her green eyes and giggle when bibio Morji went on to begin grilling Varann like xie was on trial. She tucked her legs under herself and settled so that she could sit curled up next to Varann in a clear statement.

xie could sense Mal's irritation eith the questions but varann found great pleasure in sharing this information so just gentally squeezed her hand to let Mal know xie was fine with it.
I've been helping a young lady become confident enough to follow her dream to become a weaver. i did this by teaching her about the basics needed to start a profession and helping her find a mentor who could teach her the specialist skills needed for the job. teaching and sharing knowledge are the two way i follow my people priciples. we feel that if you know something or have a skill that benefits people that we have a responsibility to help them and not horde that knowledge away"

It was an answer she could not find fault with, try as she might, which left Morjiana little choice but to proceed to her next question.

"And how have you failed to protect one who needed it?" she asked, noting her niece's protectiveness of the creature.

for a few moments shame, pain and grief flashed across xer face before xie managed to compose xer self.

I failed my closest and oldest friend....he died during the recent battle in Widu and chose to go Beyond. I should have been there fighting along side him but....I couldnt make it back in time"
