[CRP] A-Hunting We Will Go!

Post by Cordelia »

Early March of 1661

The world was quiet, save for the sounds of hooves and creak of carriage wheels. The occasional bump in the road jostled the lady inside, but otherwise her attention kept on the book in her gloved hands. Portions of snow laid scattered across the passing landscape, but the thick fur blanket on her lap kept her warm, despite being stationary. She did not mind the cold, so when the roads were more savory for a weary traveler, she decided to take Lord TK’s up on his offer.

So, the day was spent traveling from the Royal Imperian Palace, where she had resided all winter, to the viscounty of Northwood. She sent a simple missive ahead of her with her intentions of coming. She had been looking forward to the weather shift so she could truly see who the better hunter was. She grew impatient as the hours ticked by, now thinking she ought to have forgotten the carriage behind. However, she watched as the landscape began to shift and her excitement grew. As the road began to up and down with the natural curves of the landscape, she knew they were getting close to Wyvernston. She had never been to Northwood before, only passed by it to head into Northfenshire to the Winterbourne family home. However, she had taken the time to read up on Northwood, in preparation for this eventual hunt.

Cordelia closed her book and turned her attention to outside. She wondered if her ego had gotten the better of her, but she was equally confident in her archery to wager a win. Her fingers drummed lightly on her leg, only to stop when Wyvernston came into sight. Not soon enough did the carriage slow to a halt in front of the home. Grey eyes flitted over the features before the carriage door was opened. Book shoved into the deep pocket of her green dress, she accepted the hand of a guard and stepped out of the carriage, embracing the late winter air.

The guards from the gate had informed Ethan that there was a visitor on the way and the description of the wagon that bore the guest. Ethan had, in turn, informed TK that the cousin of the king, Lady Cordelia was being escorted up to the main entrance of Wyvernston. It was time for a hunt. And it would be one like the Lady had never seen before.

TK made sure Betsy had things in order for the Lady and then he made his way out to the castle grounds. When the king's cousin exited her carriage TK and Ethan were there to greet her. "Greetings and welcome Lady Cordelia Zabel Winterbourne Everhart to my humble abode."

As her boots made contact with the ground, so did her eyes on the Lycan lord before her. She smiled brightly and approached, giving a respectful curtesy. “Lord Northwood, it’s a pleasure to see you again.”

They had been in light correspondence through winter. It entirely revolves around the matter at hand: hunting. The creature did not seem to disapprove of her hobby and this alone was enough to enjoy his company.

“I hope you are well on this fine day! I have to say, I have enjoyed what I have seen so far of Northwood. It reminds me the Hartlands.”

TK nodded "Glad to see you and that you approve of my humble abode. Please, come inside and Betsy will get your things to your quarters." As they went inside it started to rain lightly. "This rain will probably not last long through the night, so it should be clear by the morning. And if it is not, then that will make for an easier hunt for you." TK grinned at the poke and motioned for them to make their way inside.

As they entered the manor Betsy took the Lady and her things to her quarters while TK checked on the kitchen and made sure the food was coming along like he felt it should be coming along. "I will be in the sitting room with tea and brandy and a plate of snack foods when you ladies are through with things. Please join me there Lady Cordelia and we can go over the map of the land."

His comment regarding the rain made her grin. Something she had enjoyed in TK’s company was the simple fact that their banter was friendly and ongoing. Being the cousin to the King often meant people held back around her. He did not and that was something she greatly appreciated.

She gave a polite “thank you” to TK before he departed, leaving her alone with Betsy. Betsy took her deeper into the manor house. Together, they ascended to the second story. Cordelia curiously took in her surroundings as she followed the woman. When the guest room was presented, Cordelia offered her gratitude before exploring the room. She gravitated to the window, now wishing the rain would cease so she could better examine the landscape.

She took a moment to freshen up. She ran a brush through her curls and hung up her cloak and scarf. Fur-lined mittens were sat on the dresser before she slipped off her winter boots. While any stone home would carry a chill, the manor sheltered them from the wind and provided plenty of warmth. So, she changed into silken slippers and left behind her shawl.

Betsy startled her when Cordelia emerged from the bedroom. She had not expected the woman to be waiting on her, although it made sense seeing as she had no idea where the sitting room was. Recovering, she let Betsy lead the way once more.

“Your home is lovely, TK.” She announced loudly upon entering the sitting area. Betsy left and the lady began to roam the room, examining its decor. “I am excited to explore the land tomorrow. You chose Northwood, did you not? What drew you here?”
