[ORP] The Fenian Costume Contest!

Post by Sebrina »

Sebastian, or Sebrina as s/he would be calling herself for the duration of the event, made sure as many posters as possible were hung up in every town in every Kingdom, all of them saying the same thing.
Come one, come all!

To the Fenian Costume Contest in the Viceregal Inn of Fenia. All are invited, no matter kingdom or city! Prizes are available, 200 Freznics to the winner, 100 Freznics to the runner up!

May the best costume prevail!

Contest begins on the 20th of October and ends on the 1st of November, the winners will be announced within a week after the end of the contest and the money will be delivered to the winners as soon as they're announced.
After Sebrina finished advertising the contest she had to set up the location of it. There was a large mostly empty room that she set up with a long red velvet carpet going down the middle of, for the contestants to walk back and forth on and show off their costumes. On the end of the carpet, opposite of the door, was a heavy wooden table with two chairs behind it. One for Sebrina, and her Fiancé, Ambra. They'd be judging the contest. There were a few more chairs set up for people to take a seat after going, or to relax while they waited their turn.

The room was ready, the date was here, it was time for the contest to begin!

Aida peeked around the corner at the red carpet seriously, smoothing down her costume of any creases. It was made of sacking and stuffed with even more sacking, so she was having a little bit of trouble walking properly. 'Never mind that, though,' she thought to herself, eyeing up the passing peasants to see if she could spot any competition. Smoothing herself down, she pulled herself tall and pulled out her pièce de résistance, casting a spell that was supposed to make them fly around her head. She still hadn't gotten that bit of magic quite down, so they flew rather violently around.

"Sorry, sorry," she said as a particularly large potato hit a peasant in the face. She turned, shooked out the creases one more time for good luck, and waddled down the red carpet, feeling magnificent.

Bhenithius was neither a tailor nor a skilled maker of ... well anything really, so he was a little disappointed when he heard there was a costume festival happening in Fenia city. Just my luck. The chance to win some extra coinage and I ain't got nothing to wear. Bt just as luck would have it, he found a costume shop in the city that had a large assortment of odds and ends, most of which was far out of reach of his meagre coinpurse. Thankfully though, the owner of the shop must have been feeling generous that day and agreed to lend out one of his costumes for the night in return for Bhen working it off by doing some handyman work the following day.

The costume was that of an old minstrel with a great big tuba-ma-phone and Bhenithius would be lying if he said he didn't feel like a complete idiot wearing it, but heck, that was the point right?

Dressed up in his costume he got on loan, Bhenithius arrives only a few moments after Aida the Potaida and hikes his Tuba-ma-phone up around his waist and puckers his lips to the mouth piece and hobbles up the red carpet some ways behind the giant potaida in his best old man hobble as he puffs a tune out of his horn instrument.

Whaaa wa Whaa... Wa wa wa... Whaaaa wa Whaa... Wa wa wa...

He tried his best to link the tune in rythym to the waddling footsteps of the potaida ahead. Each time she would stop, he would cease puffing on his horn, but the moment she started forward again he would return to blowing out a comical soundtrack to the life of the potaida.

Whaaa wa Whaa... Wa wa wa...

Duke had been planning only to watch the costume contest.
However, after being given a present by Calysta in response to querry from Bhen, Duke decides to try it on and see how things go.
Padding on up he moves to stand near Potaida and Trombone man.

Hearing the trombone, Aida began to giggle. She dared not look around in case she became unbalanced - well, more unbalanced than she already was - and so merely held out a stubby arm from the costume to wave. This was the soundtrack... to her life. She reached up to wipe away a single tear.

Taking her place proudly in front of the judges, she looked down to wave at Duke who had appeared next to her.

((ROFL. I'm not getting out of this thread alive, because I am dying laughing.))

Though there wasn't anything stating that sentenced individuals weren't allowed to enter, enjoying the festivities as if nothing happened still felt quite out of place for YenLan. He was reluctant to join at first, but Sen's gaze - the innocent gaze of a newborn kitten - was too much for him to bear. He said yes.

It was a bad decision.

The costume was made purely from stone, with only the gloves consisting of leather. It only dawned upon her that the costume might be slightly too cumbersome as the horse collapsed - along with the cart - while trying to transport it to Fenia. It only just managed to arrive before the contest began. After putting it on, Lan struggled to stand as the weight of an entire mountain tried to sink him down into the earth. His shoulders screamed pain while the strong odour of freshly applied paint poisoned his lungs. It was uncomfortable, edgy, but most of all it was heavy

Over a decade of training had prepared both his mind and body for this. He entered the room.

Wearing the stone costume, every movement was a challenge; every step a test of endurance. After an hour's time he managed to traverse half the red carpet; half of it still remained. At this point, Lan was no longer simply walking, he was no longer just a contestant within a costume contest - he had become a being that had transcended its physical limitations, to fulfil a simple promise for a person who relied on him.

Lan collapsed onto the floor just as he finished, the impact forming a small crater in the floor. A platoon of guardsmen entered the scene to drag his unconscious body to where the other contestants stood waiting.

Bhen stood beside aida as a little form started down the red carpet, and even though it could go easily unnoticed for it's size, the crowds of local Fenians cheered and huzzah'd like he was a celebrity of sorts. Squinting his eyes, Bhenithius sighed, it was the Mayor of the City. Mayor Cat, as Bhen knew him. First I have to battle the Potaida and now I have to try to win against the actual Mayor?? Gee gollie, just my luck..

Watching the Mayor Cat prance down the carpet towards them, Bhen raised his Tuba-ma-phone to his lips and puffed out a tune to the prancing little cat feet.

Wee wha wee wha wee... Dideela... Wee wha wee wha wee... Dideela...

The Mayor Cat took up position beside Bhen and Aida and nodded to them in his cattish silence. "Well hello there, Mayor Cat. Great cuirass you got going on there. All must fear the Tiger!" Bhen laughed.

Then some sort of monstrous rock golem stomped and clomped to the carpet and began it's entrance. Double shoot.. It was a swell costume. I should have come as a giant potatoe peeler.. But not waisting much thoughts on his perfect hindsight, he bellowed a bellow from his tuba-ma-phone to the heavy and slow progress of the rock golem.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!........

WHaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!........

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!.....(think Inception theme)

Then with little forwarning the big thing tumbled forward and crashed upon the ground with a ear ringing clamour.

Waa waa....

Hordes of guardsmen lugged the fallen contestant up to the line up and left it there. Bhen looked over and greeted with an, "Evening."

Duke winces slightly to himself as he picks up the surface thought's of his companion thinking to himself a mite indignantly:
"Prance? I do not prance. I'm a cat, not a raindeer. That was walking. Did it really look like a prance?"
Duke looks himself over self-consciously.
"And surely I must simply have walked into the room whilst everyone was still cheering for Potaida."
Duke meows, especially cutely, at the comment about fearing a tiger.

Watching YenLan collapse upon the stage, wearing genuine tons heavy full-golem suit, duke breathes a sigh out through his nostrils, though thinking approvingly:
"YenLan, always letting himself be talked into bad ideas. If he's not careful he'll end up a mayor or the king."
Duke stretches his legs and walks in three circles before settling down to watch who else may come next.

At the site of the massive stone creature, Aida gasped in wonderment. It was a pretty good costume, terrifying, in fact... until it's wearer collapsed in a heap on the floor, splintering the floor boards and creating an interesting addition to the venue. She watched as a platoon guards dragged him to the line and up and reached out, wobbling, to gently poke him with her foot.

"Do you think he's alright?" She whispered to the other contestants.

Evan arrived with a smirk on his face and a stride in his step; this spooky day he was not going to be a demon, oh no. He was going to be a dashingly handsome and incredibly fabulous Pirate. Stealing the way the hearts of young women and the eyes of many wives and husbands and probably all your jewel and alcohol as well. The only thing missing was his hat. With a wide grin, he raises up his flask "Drink up, me Hardys, YOHO!" he takes a long swig of the sour rum and then frowns as he turns the flask upside down, sadly squinting one eye to peer into the dark container "...why's the rum always gone?' he sighs and pouts, now awaiting for his costume partner. In the meantime, Evan just loved the other costumes,as he thought they were pleasantly creative and honestly quite entertaining to look at. He perhaps enjoyed the potaida pun a bit too much, and knows he enjoys Duke in chainmail way much more than a grown man, demon no less should. He resisted all urges to cuddles up the feline knight.

Now, being only a wee bit tipsy, he found it hard to believe there was a "line" you were supposed to stand in. He saw the others in one and thus attempted to get into it aswell. The world seemed to tilt only slightly but he maintained his balance very well and was even beginning to lose the buzz. Crossing his arms he happily stands in the line.
