Two hundred freznics. Two hundred freznics and a mark who was careless about where those freznics went. Madeliefie couldn't believe her luck.

She'd slipped into the graveyard to hide after an accident while she was practising her juggling near the temple windows. Someone had shouted something about heresy when they broke but she wasn't going to hang around and discuss religion with them. She didn't know why they cared. The stupid windows were ugly anyway. And here was a group of creatures casually spending their money on whiskey and roses. If they could afford roses they wouldn't miss a few of those shiny coins.

She watched the young woman leave and quietly followed her, keeping to the shadows and darting from tree to bush. She moved quickly and quietly and kept a good distance between them to avoid being noticed.

She supposed she should be concerned with other things with battle looming but freznics were freznics.

Upon reaching the wall, Karina noticed the gates had indeed been opened.

With a sigh she exits through them and walks toward the camp giving a wave to sofie who is walking in the opposite direction with the healers and Rousty's in tow.

Walking up to the horse, she opens the saddle bag and scoops her little pouch through it; then turns to begin walking back to the graveyard by way of the market.

Madeliefie waited impatiently behind the big tree she had chosen for cover. If discovered she would say she was looking for firewood or something. She watched the girl take the money and waited for her to be out of sight before casually approaching the horse.

She wished she had a bit of bread or carrot for it, that would make her presence there less suspicious should anyone see her. She fumbled a bit with the straps and bags, impatience getting the better of her. She wanted to be out of there in case the girl forgot something and returned.

Finally, she opened the money bag, scooped out a handful without looking - there would be time enough to count it in safety. Her senses were on the alert for the sound of anyone approaching. Every rustle of leaves or crack of a twig made her nervous. Nevertheless, she took the time to try and make everything look untouched.

She felt a twinge of guilt for taking the money. They hadn't seemed like bad creatures and what if the girl got into trouble because of her? She had to remind herself that they had plenty to spare, and they shouldn't have been so careless.

With the coins her pocket she moved quickly back towards her tree.

Karina is sitting behind the tree as Madeliefie comes back around. She holds up a small plate with a few slices of carrot bread on it.
"Hello." she says, and pats the ground beside her with her other hand. "Welcome."

She nearly jumped out of her skin when she saw the girl sitting by the tree, calm as you please and holding out a plate of bread.

"What are you doing here?!? I mean er...lovely day for a walk, isn't it. That's just what I was doing, you know, taking a perfectly innocent walk."

She smiled awkwardly, the stolen coins felt as though they were burning a hole in her pocket. Had the girl seen something? Did she know? Could she see the guilt on her face? But how? She'd been so careful not to be seen.

She sat down cautiously.

"Me, why I'm bringing you some carrot bread of course."
Karina offers Madeliefie the plate again and giggles.

"Yes; a perfectly lovely day for a nice innocent walk. That's what I'm doing too. We-el-ll, not only just. I'm on an errand. I need to buy some roses for the dead. Only it's probably not really a good idea for me to be walking alone today in the city I'm not from. I'm meant to be with Grandfather, but my cat must have forgotten -it's been chaos lately; and he's given us both separate errands to do. I wonder if you wouldn't mind maybe escorting me through the market and back to the cemetery?"

Karina smiles encouragingly.

Was it a trap? The girl was smiling and looked innocent enough, but that didn't mean anything. Maybe the carrot bread was poisoned. Maybe the others she had seen with the girl were waiting to jump out at her from some ally in the town. Maybe they had been sent to sabotage the battle by picking off members of the army one by one. She should have left those Gorm-cursed coins alone.

She kept her smile fixed on her face. No way out without appearing rude or even more guilty.

"Certainly, I can walk with you to the market and the graveyard, I know the best stall to get roses from."

She kept smiling while glancing all around for any sign of an ambush or trick.

"Excellent!"
She almost claps her hands together once but catches herself before the bread would fall from the plate.
"Thank you very much."

"Let's just feed this to the horse, and we shall be off.
She holds the plate up again.
"You can have some first yourself if you want. I'm sure the horse wont mind; I can make him some more later.
's'oay if you don't. I don't like plain carrot bread myself. When I make it for people I like to mix it with banana.
Banana is good!"

She exclaims the last part with a bit of exuberance.
