[ORP] Traveler's Caravan

Post by Bridget »

(( This is an open RP to get people posting and visiting the forum. You can simply post when you've completed a quest/played some 21/found the bean or you can RP it out. All are welcome, Widuans and visitors alike! ))

Bridget visited the Caravan everyday... usually more than once. The gypsy camp was located just slightly off the road to her home, so it was never out the way for her. She found it relaxing and calming. Even when it was crowded with peasants, one could easily blend in and go unnoticed in the crowd if they so chose - or stand out and dance and be free - no one judged or batted an eye here.

Today Bridget was feeling contemplative and had some decisions that had been pressing on her, so she made a quick stop by the fortune teller before work. The old Gypsy took her hand - and her 7 pieces of silver - and whispered these words:
"You will soon be surrounded by good friends and laughter."

Not really what Bridget was expecting to hear today, but she smiled as she headed off to town, a skip in her step, as she wondered who she might be laughing with soon.

Fortunes, answers to questions, and all that held no real use for Alder, who didn't believe in them anyway. What he was interested in was... his eyes tracked the cups around each other as they moved at speeds that most humans wouldn't be able to follow. Eventually, they stopped and he pointed with conviction towards the leftmost cup... a moment later, it had been raised, revealing nothing beneath it. Without hesitation, he lifted up both the middle and the right cups before the gypsy could stop him. There was no bean under any of them, and the boy grinned, then held out his hand for his money... it was a game the gypsies and he played. If they could cheat and get away with it, they won. If they were discovered, he would not tell anybody, so long as they let him win that round. They did a similar thing in the twenty one game, only then he was palming and switching cards too.

Come to think of it, there was probably a reason why they only let him have so many games every day, since he had probably made about seven hundred freznics total in all of his time here, not including quests... why they wanted some of these things done, he had no idea... maybe it was their way of mucking with the world... he didn't care so long as it made him money.

Moments later, when he had finished his game, he left the caravan, not meaning to interact with anybody, as was his usual way. This time, he had actually lost silver, but tommorow he would maybe make it up... that didn't stop the boy from muttering angrily though. These were some of the few people who could actually get the better of him at things like this, and it was irritating when they did. For that matter, he was still trying to figure out how they did some of those coin tricks. He thought that he could do anything with a coin, but these people again could prove him wrong... and they managed to swindle money from people for fortunes and then convince people that they were genuine... it was irritating seeing a group of people who could actually do what he did at least as well as he could. It meant he had to keep practising or they would surpass him... and then where would he get his extra money from?

The boy mumbled darkly as he left the caravan, which might have been a slight contrast to the usual jovial atmosphere of the caravan, but he really didn't care about that.

Bridget was feeling lucky today.

All the little pieces of her life had been falling into place: her office was organized, her education was right where she wanted it to be, and she was currently riding a winning streak in the arena. There was very little that could bring her down these days. On her way home for lunch, Bridget decided to stop in and visit with the Gypsies. Should her luck run out this afternoon, she didn't mind - Bridget figured the people here could use the money more than she. She stopped in at the tent where they played 21. She was only carrying 10 pieces of silver with her today, but that was enough for one quick game.

Those ten pieces of silver turned into 10 full games at the twenty-one table, a round of "find the bean", plus a quick visit to her favourite fortune teller (apparently she was going to get some new clothes!). Bridget left the caravan with a very heavy purse and big smile. Today, her luck carried through. Perhaps there would be some new clothes in her future.

Texas_Knight walked into the caravan and looked around. He was quite familiar with the gypsies that ran the games and his positive balance there was one that made him welcome anytime he walked into the camp. On this day he played the bean game and found two beans. Smiling he moved to the card game and barely made anything. He was able to walk away three frenzics to the positive. He talked with the quest giver about his balance of more than nineteen thousand silver and bought them all a round of their favorite drinks. He liked them and they liked him, even though he had proved to be quite skilled at following the cup, especially in his Lycan form. He thanked them as he left and vowed he'd be back later.
