He lie there and listen as the girl placed herself next to him in the bed and shuffled around until she was comfortable.
After several minutes, he had heard she wasn't really sleeping, instead she was pouring her eyes out as quiet as she could all because of him.

Not but several hours ago, this girl was happy, serving people in her tavern, until he came along. He recognized those eyes the second he was close enough to see them, and knew that this day would eventually have come. As his thoughts disappeared, his ears tuned back in to the quiet sobbing Bethia had been doing, he sighed, then reached over to the girl, and pulled her gently close to him, resting her head on his bare chest and placing his arm around her hoping to comfort her to sleep. He took his hand and gently rubbed her back as she lay there, he could feel some of the tears from her eyes trickle on his chest then run town his torso in a small little brooks. He smiled, and hoped that tomorrow would be a better day for her, and him alike.

Bethia was too shocked, and just too upset to protest when he pulled her close to him. Not that she would have wanted to, but she was no longer sure of what she wanted. Everything she had based her life on so far was now gone. She had no future with her father, and now she felt so very lost.

His kindness on served to make her cry hard as she curled closer to him, she knew that it wouldn't do any good to try and stop, so she let her grief wash from her in the form of her tears. She wasn't aware of how much time had passed, or how long she had cried. But eventually she started to listen to William's heartbeat, it was steady, calming. Her tears slowed, and then stopped, she was spent and had no more tears to cry. Cuddling closer to him was the only movement she made. As her eyes drifted closed, she said nothing, and let the sound of his heart rule out all other sounds and thoughts, until she relaxed completely against him.

She wasn't sure how long she lay like that, in a trance like state, or when an idea had started in her head. Maybe it was because of all the emotions of the day, or maybe it was just because she knew she could blame what she was about to do on that reason, or it could have been the memory of his lips in the forest...But whatever the reason she rose up on her elbow carefully, and slowly, not sure if he was asleep or not, and not being able to see in the darkness. Raising her free hand she gently, and with a feather light touch traced her fingers along his jaw line until she found his lips, and she traced them too, before she leaned forward and touched her own lips softly to his in a soft searching kiss.

He lay there in the dark, well to what human eyes would be dark, to him, just a black and white picture of the room, rather then color in the day time. He knew that Bethia had had a horrible day, and he wanted to make sure someone still cared. How he would go bout this, he wasn't sure yet, but he would. Her tears eventually stopped, and she had suddenly moved, he didn't think much of it, maybe she was shifting herself, or moving back to her pillow. Suddenly he felt a poke, and then realized she was outlining his facial features with her finger, then her lips gently pressed against his. He wasn't really sure what to think, should he pretend to be sleeping, return the kiss? He decided to wait and see. After the kiss, he waited a few seconds, then quietly spoke.

What was that for? and slightly grinned.

Ending the kiss Bethia pulled away slightly. He hadn’t moved at all while she’d kissed him, so she assumed he was asleep. Maybe that wa- before she could complete the thought he spoke and her heart jumped. She was silent for a long moment as his words hung in the darkness between them. Did every kiss have to have a reason behind it? “I…I don’t know…I just wanted to kiss you.” she said softly, her voice hoarse from the crying she had done.

Realizing to have asked that question he had been awake while she’d kissed him, her body grew hot and she was glad for the cover of darkness, for it concealed her blush. Still on her elbow leaning close to him, her long hair falling over her shoulder she peered into the darkness that surrounded them, wishing she could see his face to gauge what he was thinking. “I’m sorry…” she whispered softly. “I guess I shouldn’t have kissed you.”

He smiled at her reactions to his sudden words, she seemed as if she had done something terribly wrong. He knew that she couldn't see his face, or that he may have been potentially up to something. He looked at her, as she tried hard to see his face, then gently snuck the arm that was under her around her side, and quickly pulled her on top of him rather then having her next to him. He then proceeded to takes his now free arm and placed it on the back of her head, and gently pushed it toward him, raising his own, he pressed his lips up against hers and held them there for what seemed like an eternity. He then slowly removed his lips from hers, but kept them almost within touching range.

I believe that's what you've been looking for. He smiled again, as as he did his lips brushed up against hers again.

He said nothing and she was thinking that maybe she'd done something really wrong by kissing him like she had, but she wasn't sure what to say or do. She felt his arm moving and assumed he was going to push her away. But Bethia gasped in surprise as she was suddenly pulled on top of him, when she felt his hand on the back of her head, she didn't fight him, but lowered her lips to his, her body relaxed against his, as the kissed lasted for what seemed like forever.

When he finally pulled his lips away from hers she was breathless. She could feel her heart racing in the quietness of the room, and his too no longer held the same calm beat as before. When he spoke, she could feel his words vibrate in his chest, before she could even think of a response she felt his lips touch her's again, and she kissed him again softly.

Even as she was kissing him, her body was telling her that there was more to be learned here. Moving purely on instinct, and what she felt might be the right thing she slowly broke the kiss,... She was hesitant, half expecting that he would stop her, and insist she sleep, as she kissed the line of his jaw, slowly moving her lips against his skin, and down towards his neck.

After she had kissed him again, and started to move lower, he took his hand and placed it on her chin to bring her eyes back to his eye level. Though she couldn't see that, he could.

You have had a long day, your mind is not clear, and I am not going to take advantage of that. He spoke, ensuring he was loud enough for her to hear that he meant his words.

You mind needs to adjust to it's knowledge and come to terms with what has happened, until then everything you do is foggy. He spoke again, then ran his hand to her cheek and stroked it with his thumb gently.

And besides, we need to rest. Especially you, you've walked a long way. He smiled, and then placed his hands on her shoulders and gently rubbed them, then moved down her arms and placed his hands on her back again.

Tomorrow shall be a new day, for the both of us. Now please get some rest, you need it.

She went still the moment he touched her chin, as he raised her face up she kept her eyes half closed, knowing he’d see. She listened to, and fought the almost overwhelming sense of embarrassment and the feeling that she was being rejected. Before his words completely settled into the air around them she knew she would force herself to act as if this was nothing. What else could she do? Swallowing hard she nodded ever so slightly. She hesitated for a moment as his hands slid down her arms and then rested on her back, but she knew he probably wouldn’t be able to sleep with her on top of him, and she knew that no matter what position she was in she wouldn’t sleep. Repressing a sigh she shimmied herself off of him, back to his side. Despite wanting to move completely away from him now, because of the embarrassment she snuggled against him. She hadn’t said anything thus far, not really knowing what to say, but she knew she should probably say something. “Good night.” Her voice was soft when she spoke, and she methodically relaxed her body against him, and closed her eyes. Then as the minutes passed she counted slowly in her mind and timed her breathing so it was calm and even, as if she’d slipped into sleep. She wasn’t sure how well it would convince him, but he wanted to sleep, and wanted her to sleep and so she would pretend, and maybe at some point she would stop pretending and actually fall asleep.

After she had moved back to his side, he made sure he kept his arm around her, for there was more reason for it being there then she may have thought. He knew that for one she needed him close, and his arm around her he expected would make her feel comfort. And the second, one she wasn't aware of. He wanted her to be there as well, as much as he had tried not to show it.

He closed his eyes, and took hold of the pendant around his neck. He himself would have trouble falling asleep this night, and knew that the girl laying here would probably not sleep at all. Knowing they both really needed it, he used a little of his elven magic, to soothe their bodies, and entering them into a relaxing state. This always worked for him in the passed, helping him sleep after horrible days and events. If it worked for him, then he knew the girl stood no chance in fighting the magic. Or at least he hoped it worked. A smile crossed his lips, as he felt the magic soothe his aching body, and he felt her body loosen up from its tenser position, it was working. He removed his gently grip around the pendant, and placed his hand on his chest instead, and fell into a deep slumber.

Bethia was glad that he kept his arm around her, it made her feel safe and not so alone. In the quiet of the room she let her senses expand slightly, listening to the foreign sounds of the castle. But the sound that stayed above the others was his heart beat. It was steady and calm and that in itself was a comfort.

As she lay there, she felt the green taste of magic swirling around her, and she felt her mind and body grow heavy. Snuggling closer to William she let the magic whirl around her and carry her into a deep and dreamless sleep, not pausing to even wonder why he'd done it.

It was the birdsong that woke her the next morning, like it had every morning since since her Grace had came. From the tone of the two birds resting near the window they were Wrens, her favorite for the most part. She could tell that the magic was gone, having done what was needed to help her into sleep.

Before slowly opening her arms she assessed her position, she was pressed very close to William's side, one leg draped over his, and a hand on his chest. Letting her two toned eyes focus she realized he wasn't quiet awake yet, or if he was his eyes weren't open. She was slightly relieved at this. She wanted a few moments to think about what she'd done the night before.

She didn't move not wanting to wake up, instead she closed her eyes again. She could feel her embarrassment grow as she thought about what she'd done that night. But she knew that there was nothing she could do about it...not now anyways. She did appreciate the fact that William was an honorable Elf, much more honorable than most would have been in the same situation. She decided that it was too early to think about her reasons behind her actions.

Instead she moved her hand slightly to cover his heart, wanting to feel his heart beat as well as hear it while she waited for him to wake up.
