And so it begins...

Post by ThomasLeFroy »

It was still dark when Tom awoke. He wasn't sure if it was still night or early morning. Feeling restless, he sat up at the edge of the bed and groaned. He was still a bit intoxicated from the last evening at the tavern. The barmaid kept bringing him ale, and he was very much a gentleman to not refuse a drink offered, especially from a lady. Standing up slowly, he grumbled to himself "Good lord, LeFroy. Can't you ever control yourself when it comes to the drink?" Stumbling a little across the room, he reached the chair where his clothes were laid and proceeded to get dressed, as a long day was ahead. He was eager to get an early start, indisposed or not.

The lantern swung back and forth in his hand as he walked down the trail to where his boat was tied by the lake. Fishing was the only thing he was good at and what he enjoyed. As he reached the boat, he inhaled the fresh smells of the morning. The sun was just starting to rise, making the water glisten, a sight that still amazed him each day he came back. Tom rowed out to the middle of the lake and threw out his pole. Leaning on the edge of the boat, he closed his eyes and took in the sounds of peace and quiet. Soon enough, he fell asleep on the boat.

As Tom rested on the boat, the ground started shaking, causing the waters to be rough, just enough to almost flip the boat over. Tom repositioning himself didn't understand what was going on until he rolled over the edge of the boat into the water. The cold water roused him from his sleep and while he was underwater, he saw something glistening. He tried swimming down to it then realized he couldn't breathe so he went up to the surface, took a deep breath and tried again. The sunlight shone through the water and carved a path to whatever it was that caught his attention, just a moment ago. He reached the bottom and grabbed a handful of glistening sand, then made his way back up. Climbing back into the boat, he shook his head to get his wet hair out of his face. Just as he got resettled, he took a closer look at what it was that he went down for. Rinsing it with some water, Tom realized that he stumbled upon a small pouch full of old items. Inside was a few old coins with script that he had never seen before, a necklace with an unusual charm and a vial filled with a small note. At first, he just tossed the pouch to one side with his equipment, then something started gnawing at him wondering who it belonged to. Checking his fishing pole, he replaced the bait that was eaten possibly during his slumber. He decided that he'll reinspect the pouch once he got home.
