3.1.005 Preview Part II

The next release of code will have a number of changes going live all at the same time. As such, we want to give our players a bit of a heads up regarding some of these changes. All of these changes are designed to bring in either player suggestions, re-balancing, add new features, or fix issues. Release 3.1.005 is estimated to be released March 7th.

Today's preview revolves around the Grants system. This system has been mostly untouched over the years. However, we have had some player suggestions to tweak the system as well as us finding some aspects of the grant system needing a re-balance. Starting with this release, players will be able to burn grants that they do not want to keep nor return. This will require the use of 5 bushels of wood.

Another suggestion brought to us was the ability to return a grant outside of the original granted area. As such, both Viceregal and Town grants will be able to be returned via port for a fee. This fee is partially determined by the distance of travel time that was mentioned that was being tweaked for this upcoming release in our previous preview.

Another issue that we found was that grants were an endless carrying bag that could not be robbed. The original intent of grants were not to be infinite. As such, the code is being tweaked to end this. Effective with the release of 3.1.005, all existing grant bags will have a 90 day timer added to them before they are considered expired. All new grants will have a 60 day timer per grant bag used, that is used to create it, up to a maximum limit of using 6 bags to last almost a year. This will force a cap for grant length.

Grants that go over their expiration date will result in the following:
1) A notice when they expire
2) A fee of 5 Freznics per day that they hold onto the grant paid by the player
3) Potential leaking of money and items randomly until the item is returned.
4) If a player is paused, an expired grant will be returned at the cost to the player similar to the Port Return Grant Fee

One thing to note about #2 and #3 is there is a window of about a week before either of these things will start to occur.

Finally, we are removing the secured grant flag for future grants. Any mayor or Viceregal member with authority who grants a grant to themselves will be able to remove things from the grant. This protection is not really needed at this time and the code has been removed for 3.1.005.

Will the robber steal the grant bag too, or only the items in the grant bag?

This new release will not introduce robbing of money/items in grant bags. While we won't say that this couldn't happen in the future, it is not currently on the road map at this time.

What about those of us that purchased a grant bag ages ago for personal use that isn't required to be returned. Now I will lose what I purchased?

So just to be clear -
Security grants will no longer be a thing?

From what I understood, and correct me if I’m wrong because I’m still half asleep, if a mayor fears revolt and does a security grant to themselves, and the revolt does happen, the new (illegal) mayor can just recall these items?

Or is it that they can remove items into personal inventory because why not?

Just a bit confused. :oops:

Yes, the grant bag you have will have the grandfathered clause for 90 days to expiration once 3.1.005 is released. I believe it would be hard to argue that you did not get the value of the purchase since you have had the grant bag for almost 7 and a half years. Your grant bag (among others) was the inspiration for putting a cap on the system as it was never intended to be something that was infinite.

Trade grants can still be done under the new system, but would just require the use of either more grant bags or being returned after 60 days. I'm not sure at the moment what sort of tweak would be needed at this time.

Mayors can still put everything they desire into a grant. No one can recall grants in the upcoming code. The change is that the grant isn't locked. Meaning if the mayor wants to sell/buy via the grant they can. In addition, they could remove items or add items to the grant as well. Hope that helps

It should always have been required to be returned/renewed at some point.
Grant bags that remain open past a certain time acrue fees for the TH/VR
