As familiar footsteps approached the enclosed courtyard, Aishe finished off her first glass and refilled it. It was as she was sitting the wine bottle back down that Mallory entered the space, carrying something unexpected. Her eyebrows rose in question, blue eyes falling on the barrel in her arms. The scent of the sloshing content drifted to her, her curiosity growing tenfold. "It certainly smells more interesting than the last batch! Sit it wherever; I'll move it to the cellar later... After a taste."
She sipped the strawberry wine, not wanting to switch drinks so soon after just starting her favourite one. Once the bottle before her was empty though, that barrel was calling her name. The older blonde smiled in appreciation as Mallory sat the gift down.
"It seems today is a day of giving." The Kralisi looked away from her sister towards the hounds, motioning forward to bring her attention to the small black mass tucked between her beasties.

She let her toes absorb the warmth beneath her feet as she decided where to place the gift. Aishe was usually pretty smart at choosing spots she could still revel in the part of humanity she missed. The sun on her skin. She settled on a darker shaded spot off to the side to protect the contents. That should help it? Right? She mentally asked herself.
She basked im the warmth of the air around her and took a deep, though unneeded breath. As she did her nose started twitching a bit at the scents around her. When Aishe mentioned that it was a day of giving confusion crossed her very readable expression before she turned and looked where her sister gestured and made a high pitched, almost silent squeel.
IS THAT? she asked, her head whipping back to her sister so fast her hair tangled in her face. FOR ME? Her excitement wouldn't be contained so she started bouncing and clapping for the briefest of moments before stopping to go to the puppy pile.

Aishe winced ever so slightly as the pitch of her sister's squeal was uncomfortable to her sensitive ears, but her smile did not falter. She nodded in answer, pleased with the reaction. Sipping on wine, she watched Mallory approach the hounds. Greg and Nightly both lifted their heads at her approach, one of them giving a low grumbling growl. It was a noise that came from the innate need to protect, but he ceased after a moment, having made his warning and knowing Mallory well. The growl stirred the pup from its sleep, eyes fluttering open. Its head lifted, gaze settling on the figure before them. There was an uncertainty in its movements as it stood, stretched, then stared at Mallory. The adult beasts were watching closely, but remained laying.
"No clue if it is a boy or a girl, a bit hard to tell when they are this little... But, we found you a Nether pup! Okay, Akos found you one - she did all the searching." The Kralisi paused briefly before continuing. "My hounds have taken a liking to the young one, which may prove to make things... Difficult. Hopefully because they know and trust you, they will be content enough with your fixation. I imagine the possessiveness will ease in time, but you may need to have some patience."

She knew her phei was speaking and part of her brain heard and stored the words but the other part was assessing the puppy pile and the best way to get closest to the littlest bundle. She did catch the note that Akos had found her the very best present in the whole wide worlds. Non-threatening...well as non-threatening as a vampire could be... was the best approach she decided and sat crosslegged on the ground beside the puppy pile. "Hello boys, what have you got there. Is that a new friend for me?" She asked. "Looks like you're doing an amazing job protecting it. Is this a via for more treats? I guess you liked the last. She asked in a teasing lilt, waiting to see their reaction before sticking out a hand. Animals, no matter which dimension they were from, could be very, very protective of the young. "Hi there. I'm Mallory, Namid really, I don't suppose you count as gaje do you? I'm so excited to meet you. I have a feeling we're going to be spending a lot of time with these two. They seem to have decided to be your protectors." she wasn't going to not introduce herself, you never knew what creatures understood and she wasn't a rude creature herself, well... not on purpose. "Oh Tell Akos this is the best present ever, thank you both. I don't mind work and all the bribes needed to put it in." she said flashing a smile back at Aishe.

Things seemed to be going well, considering the beasts allowed Mallory to sit near them. Greg stared at her, but Nightly reached out with his muzzle and nudged her extended hand, as if telling her to remove it from his presence. The pup, however, was curious and pushed past Nightly to approach the offering. Nightly shifted yet remained laying, keeping his head close to Mallory's hand - but he let the little one investigate. Its wet nose went to work sniffing the fingertips first, working its way up the fingers and to the palm.
Aishe watched quietly, not wanting to disturb the process with her voice. The pup had confidence, but was easily startled when focused on something and it was certainly focused. She sipped more on the wine, leaning back onto her hand and stretching her legs out a bit more.

She sat quietly as the pup sniffed her fingers but when it made it to her palm she giggled a bit as it tickled against her cool skin. She spoke softly, "Hello little one. Aren't you curious?" she gently moved her hand up and along the pups her, using her nails to softly scratch the pups head. "I'm Mele. I adore you already. Aren't you cute? And smart, clearly" she looked at Aishe with a grin. "Look how adorable he is? Look at that face"
It took a little time but she slowly worked her way into having the pup nestled into her lap. Greg didn't look bothered but Night had been watching from the moment she moved near. A fleeting thought to growl at him crossed her brain but she quickly dismissed it. She continued talking to the three animals and occasionally her sister a while before deciding to try her luck and hold the pup. She lifted him into her arms and nestled him against her chest. Softly stroking his fur until he settled with a warm huff. She looked at Aishe with a beaming smile.

From a distance, the noise was subtle, but recognizable to a well experienced mother: quiet sniffles and the occasional sob. Following her sensitive ears, she moved from the bottom floor up to the next, wandering down the hall. Her bare feet made hardly any noise on the cool, tile floor. She found herself being led towards the bedrooms of her children, concern growing. The younger nine children of Aishe and Akos were in split into two rooms: the four boys were in one and the five girls in another. The rooms were spacious enough that it was not cramped, but overall the villa home did not have too many rooms for them all to have a separate room. It became clear that the noises were coming from the boys' room as she approached the door, brows furrowed. Her ears told her of only a single heartbeat. Her sense of smelled confirmed which prince it was and a further sniff told her that there was no blood, so no obvious injury.
Aishe opened the door quietly to find the eldest Romany-Fenian prince, Anraí, sitting by his lonesome on his bed. His arms were crossed over his chest with his stuffed knight pressed to it, his face buried into the toy. His shoulders heaved with a low, muffled cry. He seemed okay physically, but clearly there was something wrong with the fair-haired boy and it caused an instant ache in her heart.
Moving towards him, she intentionally rustled her bangles to create some noise to announce her presence, so she did not startle the distracted nearing-five year old. His head lifted and turned, bright blue eyes red from crying. She frowned deeply, quickening her pace to reach his bed. When she did, she sat down and immediately pulled him onto her lap, holding him close. "Oh, my sweet Faolán, what is the matter?"
"It's nothin', Dai." He sniffled, resting his head against her chest.
"Something tells me that is not the case, pup. What happened?" She knew that her son would always downplay things with his siblings in efforts to keep anyone from getting in trouble, which only increased her worry as it was now evident it involved at least one of the other children.
"It's just that... Arluin said somethin' and Alaois said it was true." It was like prying teeth, but she encouraged him to tell her more and after a long moment of pause, teary eyes looked up at her. "They said that Father was gonna name Zulf his heir cause he loves him more than us. That he's got a new family and we're just his old family and that Zulf is a 'real Fenian' and I'm not, so he's gonna be King of Fenia and I'll be in a dungeon cause Imma be a threat. Or! OR he's just gonna kill all us so he no have to worry 'bout it."
His pain quickly became her pain as she looked down at his little face, sympathy in her eyes. This was something she was afraid of - both Anraí being worried about it happening and it actually happening. The recent treaty with Fenia offered some reassurance to her that the children of her and Akos with their ex husband would not be denied their birthrights in favour to his, as Anraí called it, 'new family'. However, she could understand how their children may not realize how it all worked and she very much anticipated such worries as they got older and understood that their father remarried and had other children besides them. They were beginning to understand what that meant, particularly since Zuan II had been named successor to their father's duchy over them. While they spent much time in Paz with their mothers, they frequented the Imperian Castle with regular visits and from what she understood, Zuan still treated them as he ever did. He did not appear to favour his new son with Ella over the ones he had with his first queens.
But they were four and a half. They did not truly understand the world or how complicated families or the monarchy could be. It was a reasonable fear, one she felt she may herself have until she actually saw her son on the Fenian throne. After all, someone could argue their little royals were only half-Fenian, mixed with what some would consider a lesser culture, and their mothers were no longer Fenian Queens. Someone could argue that Zuan II and any other sons the King had with his new wife would be more worthy and had more claim to the Fenian throne than that of the sons the King shared with his exes. She was well aware of the risks to the lives of her children that could result from her failures (as she saw it) as a wife.
How could she blame little children for worrying the same? What they understood was that Zuan had a second family that he saw and lived with full time, while they were only with him partially. Yet, it broke her heart to know that they were already noticing the differences that arose from the divorce and the king's new marriage. Perhaps it was made even more noticeable by comparing his position to that of his sister, Amelia. Amelia was her heir to the Boreens Durri Natsia and her spot was guaranteed - it was not contested by another family and her two older sisters had already given up that birthright to pass it onto the princess. Aishe's succession was clear and straight forward. Zuan's could be contested and perhaps the future would prove to bring such tension and turmoil... But for now, Zuan was adamant about his current line of succession with an international treaty guaranteeing it and all she could do was reassure their young son that he was safe and what he was promised would be his some day.
So, the Romani Queen spent some time talking him through it, answering his questions and reassuring his worries. By the end of their long conversation, tears were dried and cheeks were back to their normal fair shade, with all redness of the face gone. Anraí slowly came back into his confident, cheerful self, with his moment of apprehension passed. He would make a good King some day, she was sure of it. He had great traits that one would want in their monarch and as his mother, it was her job to help guide him and nurture those qualities. This private moment in the his childhood bedroom would hopefully prove to be a learning moment, one she hoped he'd remember fondly and lean on when such concerns arose again - as they undoubtedly would. The world was a difficult place for a royal child born of two nations.
