[ORP] Scarlette

Post by Scarlette »

Pulling her hair over her ears to hide them, Scarlette makes her way through town. She realizes she is not completely sure where she should go and even a small town is daunting to her after spending most of her life in the forest.

Her Mother had begged her not to go but Scarlette was increasingly certain her mother was losing her mind. In any case having been married these past years to a man who was not Scarlette's father she was well cared for and hadn't been left alone in that deep place where only trees whisper.

Scarlette loved that place but she always wanted to see what else there was and if such magic could be found elsewhere in the world. And this seemed the best way to do it. She pulls her skirts up a bit and turns, avoiding a peddler heading towards the market.

She pauses and sighs to herself, she should ask for directions to the Castle at least, for it was, to her Mother's chagrin after living a life away from all this, her intention to go to the King and offer her services in whatever capacity might be needed.

After a few days spent in Widu, Scarlette began to get her bearings on moving throughcities and how life worked in them. She was still determined however to meet the King and offer her services and though Widu was pleasant it didn't offer the adventure and excitement she so craved.

She slung her small pack over her shoulder and continued on to the capital city of Imperious, certain that the king and therefore her destiny must lie within it's walls. The way from Widu to Imperious was easy as there was a worn, well-used path to follow and she need not travel through the thick forest as she had on her way to Widu, still it was a long walk. She paced herself, atune to her own body and making certain she did not push herself too far. After all the King could hardly accept a possible soldier who had worn herself out on her way in, arriving at his step dehydrated or worse, and she did hope to impress him.

Soon a breeze began to pick up, bring with it a scent she did not at first recognize, for it was not often her Mother had allowed her to partake of such fruit. Oranges. She Whispered to the breeze, breathing the delicious scent in deep.

It wasn't long before she spotted the orchard itself. Nestled close to the city to which it no doubt provided an excellent tool of trade. She picked up her pace, thoughts of meeting the King being replaced momentarily with the need to taste, to experience, the lovely fruit.

Approaching the nearest tree she plucked a large fruit from it's branches and hurredly pulled the skin from it. Then completely oblivious to anyone that might be near her she sank her teeth into the flesh of the fruit, drawing the pulp into her mouth while slurping the sweet citrus juice and sighed softly in pleasure.

She had crossed paths with the woman ages ago it seemed to Lea as she followed her down the main road, hiding behind rocks and trees and such things that children find to hide behind. The woman intrigued her; she seemed unlike any of the noble ladies, or even the farmers' wives. She was travelling on her own, for one thing, which momma had told her never to do. Though, Lea had broken that rule many times...as she was now, wandering around by herself, pretending she was a warrior sorceress.

And what would a warrior sorceress do now, she wondered as the woman neared the orange grove, her nose perking in interest. "Why, she's not wearing a dress!" Lea inwardly muttered as she looked over her own dirty garb...boy would she be in trouble..."I want to wear trousers." She slunk forward, almost tempted to pick an orange for herself. But, a warrior sorceress would not eat while hunting! Slowly, she drew out the stick she used for both a wand and a sword and jumped out of her hiding place.

"How dare thee trespass in the King's grove!"

Scarlette nearly jumped out of her skin as she heard the shout and she twisted around quickly, her eyes seeing nothing. She raised her eyebrow then moved her eyes downward and nearly laughed at herself.

Instead she gave the girl a warm smile.

And what have we here? The Captain of the King's personal guard, no doubt. Alright then you've caught me, I ate the King's orange. Now what?

She smiled brightly back at the girl, the smile reaching her eyes, and waited for a response.
