[ORP] Tale of a Cheesemonger

Post by Orakio »

In twilight did he travel through the glen
In lookout for a place to set his camp
Outside the city would he rest and then
There out upon the morning grass so damp-

His offering of goods he would present
Brought to tempt their tongues and fill their bellies
And capture their attention with intent
Of selling his cheeses, jams, and jellies

And so it came to pass the sun did rise
Upon the great horizon to the east
So would he try to catch the people's eyes
And draw them in to gather to the feast.

What have you sir to sell,
On this fateful day?
Have you been down in the dell,
Where the cattle stay?

An inquisition did the man receive
So in turn did he reply in greeting,
The finest of the churn and of the cleave;
That which I am selling is for eating!

And cattle have I raised and counted true
Driven in a manner somewhat hasty
Persisted through all kind of strife and moo,
For their flesh is succulent and tasty

Though Freznic be my currency of choice
I never could be one to shun a deal
So humbly do I wait for you to voice
Whether to you my goods have got appeal.

For weeks the man had stayed here with his wares
Grown tired of the road indeed he has
And so each night he contemplates and stares
And muses that he'll make his home in Paz

So then one day at last did he decide
As fully as his wanderlust allows
That in this very town would he reside
And try to make his fortune raising cows

His cheeses had he bought and sold to earn
Now from the pasture would he make his own
The process and techniques he had to learn
And over time was sure his craft to hone.

And finally the day did come when he
Had quite the perfect recipe derived
The jewel of his labor it would be,
Precisely from the moment it arrived;

Texture to appease the very mages,
Its rich, delicious luxury untold-
Having sought a name among the sages,
To henceforth know it as Bravian Gold

Its rind was cured to age and waxed around
For a preservation most fantastic
And in this manner would they all be bound
Since nobody had invented plastic.

6 wheels of cheese!
If you please!
delivered to cork's tower
preferably in the daylight hour

The process was perfected to an art
And comfortably fell into routine
So regular production did he start
And now to turn a profit was he keen;

When Adonair did offer a request
Six wheels to be exported out of town
To go on such a trip at his behest
Would hopefully be good for his renown;

Such quantity did make for quite a load
And to a city so far out of sight,
But nonetheless he'd totter down the road
Because the customer is always right

One hot day she finds herself
Hot, dusty, tired, and weary,
No idea of where she was,
Her eyes begrimed and bleary,
She spies a field lush and green
With kine well fed and happy,
In the shade she makes a bed
Too tired to go much further.
"Hope the farmer of this dell
Might find pity in his heart
For I must rest ere I faint!
May his cows be blessed, content,
May his cheeses gain renown.
And now my head I lay down,
To watch the farm in the dell.

Hod tried to leave a thank you note.
So on a paper she did wrote:
Thank you for the milk
It was such a fine ilk
It went down like silk.

Back from yon tower now he made his way
Free from the load and happy with the sale
Enjoying then the beauty of the day
The freshness of the air he did inhale;

But then among the cattle when he went
To nourish them and then their milk collect
Had noticed someone laying when he bent
And so then to approach her did elect

So peacefully she lie there in the shade
And meant no trouble did he feel assured
So wondered what had brought her to the glade
But let her rest and tended to his herd.
