Strange Awakenings

Post by Wolfmist »

Wolfmist was raking straw in the stables, thinking about lunchtime. It was a nice day, sunshine and birds making themselves pleasantly known while the horses grazed comfortably. Wiping his brow when he finished his chores in the last few strokes of the rake, he left the tool on its respectful shelf and fetched his food parcel from the hayloft, went outside to dip his head in the trough and relaxed in the sunshine on a hay bale, watching the nearest mare with her foal.

Bloodwyvern sighed walking slowly, his old armour glinting in the sunlight and a heavy battered blade slapping against his thigh. He'd just come out of a meeting with the King about local ... laws and customs, and had found it most interesting. After a while he reached a fence holding in a horse and its foal. He'd not eaten in a while. Bloodwyvern simply stood there, near a hay-bail, debating whether or not its considered inappropriate to kill and eat someone else's horse.. he had a strange feeling that it probably was.

Sharra ran through the forest with her pack and suddenly Timber froze, the pack did likewise, looking at him. "What is it Timber? The smell is wrong". Timber told her there was a small human that wasn't right and there was something with him .
Timber instucted the pack to remain while he and Sharra went to investigate. So they went forward slowly till they came to some stables and it was there amid the smell of horse.
They could see a very strange looking creature looking at the horse and foal. They returned to the pack and Sharra changed to her human form and told Timber she would go to the stables and find out what was going on. Timber would not allow that for she was of his pack and was to be protected. She agreed he could come with her, so off they set. The pack agreeing to stay back, but nearby.

Wolfmist dozed off in the heat with a satisfied belly, his head leaning against the fence post behind the hay bail. His mind stirred as his dozed, half awake half not.

A shade of a man with messy long hair and black robe made of smoke appeared before him, a heavy breeze of spiritual energy whipping his black robes about, the extremely long and thick hair and beard matching the robes in the consistency of the thick cold breeze. The robes and material of the man were coiling like smoke in the pressure of the spiritual energy, while in the real world the same breeze whipped around the 9 year old boy known as Wolfmist. The man in robes let out a long chilling breath as it reached for the boy, the smoky gnarled fingers worn with age and heavy use of the spiritual energy. Barely a millimetre from the boy's neck, Wolfmist woke with a start.

Waking with a start, Wolfmist opened his eyes properly to realise that the horses were staring at him docilely and he looked with a flinch over his shoulder at two newcomers to the field. "H... Who are you!?" He asked with a bit of a shock. Then he realised, as he was facing the sun to begin with, there was a shadow stretching from his feet towards the sun, but as he tried to make it out it disappeared in a smoky fashion to leave bright, clear grass.

Returning his shaken attention to the two strangers, he backed off away from the fence by two steps. He was unsure why he was scared, maybe it was just the strange daydream his mini-siesta had presented, or maybe it was the stranger looking at the horses like Xavier used to?

He eyed them as he waited for an explanation. Xavier he had learned to trust, and he was wishing his sensai was here.

The orc was still debating what to do when he heard a voice and turned to look at the speaker. Tilting his head he decided it was obviously a young human. he began to speak in an accent obviously far more accustomed to a guttural language and he spoke in a slow manner deliberately saying every word, even with the help he had learning the language it was still a challenge "i'm wondering what those horses would taste like" he jerked his thumb at the horses in the field "i've not eaten in a while...and well I could eat a horse" he chuckled deeply at his joke, a hand resting on his sword casually as he talked, confident in his view that nothing in the area could hurt him. he leant against the fence and became aware of another in the area...

Sharra saw the young man talking to the huge rather unusual creature. Quite frankly she had never seen anyone like it. It was wearing some kind of metal plating on it's body and carried a sword . Her sensitive hearing could pick up the guttural speech of the creature and it spoke very slowly as if it had just learnt how to speak. Being who she was, it was not unususal to decipher some oddness of speech. The creature was asking about the horses as it was hungry, but it was when it started to lay it's hand on the sword she became alert.
She knew no matter what the creature was she could prevent any harm to the young person. She sensed a strong emanation in the young person that she wished to investigate. So she was prepared to save him from harm.
She felt the large creature sense her near, but was unconcerned and made her way forward with Timber at her side. As she did so she sent waves of comfort and protection to the young person. She wished him to know she had no ill-intentions towards him also that
the wolf at her side was of the same mind.
As she continued forward she built up her's and Timber's defence. It would not allow any entry of magic in any form. This being so, she continued on, keeping her eyes on the large creature only. Timber would watch the young man. This was a method they had perfected over time.

Wolfmist looked between the two and while he felt waves of comfort around him (which he could oddly smell to be the scent of the woman) he could still make out the brewing of a possible fight between the woman, her wolf-friend and the barbarian-looking creature.

"No, the King's horses are not for sale!" yelled Wolfmist, "nor for your taking either." He was nervous now, very nervous. He was lucky with Xavier, his innocence worked out to be something Xavier had been unwittingly looking for, but this guy was new and although there were parallels of wanting to eat a horse Wolfmist wasn't sure that his bumblings would work this time.

Wolfmist stood very visibly between the barbarian and the horses with his arms folded, shoulders back and chin up. This little King's Warrior would protect his charges to the bitter end if necessary!

The orc watched the boy defiantly stand up to him, and decided to test the humans courage, it could provide some amusement . Ignoring the stranger's presence he slid his hand to his sword's hilt and walked up to the boy, staring down at him unblinkingly. "You'd defy an Orc?" Bloodwyvern's smile twisting into something between a smirk and a snarl "Let alone one that has led the war-bands of the mighty white fang tribe." he stepped forward towards the boy as he spoke, his words said loudly but slowly, "I''ve levelled entire towns, slaughtered armies... what makes you think you are man enough" Bloodwyvern halted just in front of the young human and said quietly and partially in Orcish"nucht human"

Wolfmist looked up into those... those... eyes as the ogre made a speech about levelling towns and such... he has lost the thread of what it was saying, not because he didn't understand it or because of some childish innocence creating attention deficiency, but because his vision switched from the Orc in the real world and the same scary black mage that visited his day dreams only minutes ago. Only this time the mage was distracted, placing a friendly hand on Wolfmist's 9 year old shoulder from behind him, like a father might support a son before a football match.

His vision flickered, Wolfmist held a hand to his head as a migrane started creeping in. The horses weren't moving either, but standing unnaturally behind Wolfmist. A breeze picked up, only stronger this time, whipping the trees and the grass all around the paddock. Wolfmist lost control of his body, his eyes wide with black irises. A voice emanated from the air, filling the Orc's ears, although Wolfmist's mouth wasn't moving. His eyes were fixed on the Orc.

LISTEN TO ME, OGRE, YOU MAY LEVEL A CHILD AS EASY AS YOU LEVEL A CITY BUT YOU WONT EVEN GET A MOUSE LET ALONE A HORSE.
KILL HIM THEN KINGS ARMIES... NECROMANCERS... WOMEN SCORNED... NOTHING WILL COMPARE TO HIS TRUE CURSE

The wind whipped around the boy's feet thicker than gravy from the Castle's kitchens, the spiritual pressure truly awakened from Wolfmist's dream.

The shade controlling the boy waited for the Orc's answer.

The orc took a step back, his grip upon the sword hilt tightening. he eyed the boy for a few moments, his lips weren't moving and his eyes they had changed... this was odd magic, he had seen magic alter someone's form before but not their mind. The orc locked eyes with the creature "What magic is this?" he orc muttered slightly awed.
