April 15, 1662

It was early in the afternoon when Neoma woke up. Her birthday celebration combined with her coronation had gone on until dawn. As she laid in bed trying to clear the fog from her head she let her mind wander over the events from the night before.

The people of the Zoralo Natsia had been anxiously waiting for ten years for her to finally come of age. After the illness took the lives her parents and several others, including her own life, the Rom had been devastated until she woke up as they were about to put her body on the pyre. From that day forward she had been called Parrav Kralisi, the Blessed Queen. Of course she wasn’t the Kralisi officially until last night.

She sighed as she sat up and pulled herself from the bed to get ready for the day. As she sat and stared at her reflection in the mirror, her purple eyes stared back at her. She smiled knowing that they had been a gift from the mages when they allowed her to live. Her eyes had been green and now they were the purple that Zareen had. She took comfort that Zareen would always be there to guide her.

The young queen finished brushing her hair and dressing and went outside to face the day.

A few weeks later

The days had gone on much like the days before she was crowned. She didn’t really feel much different. She spent time with her people and enjoyed the beauty of the season. It didn’t take long before she became restless. The Romany were travelers and they had been in the same place for a while, it was time to move on. She knew they had cousins that had established a permanent settlement in Bravia and she decided it was time to go visit them.

She gathered everyone to let them know to begin preparing for the journey. Most of her people were happy but there were some grumbles. The Rom had a long memory and some had not forgiven Aishe for taking over Bahram’s Natsia two years prior. She gently reminded them that the past was the past and it was time to heal old wounds and move ahead. The people of Boreens Durri were still their cousins and it was time to get to know them.

It did not take long for everyone to be ready and they set off.

April 15, 1662:

The night before had been something. The Romany people were not one to be shy about celebrating. They were loud and proud and every ounce of energy would go into a day of celebration. The birthday and coronation of their queen was planned for months and when it came, it exceeded expectations. Food, drink, music, dancing…

Headaches.

Anwyn groaned and rolled over, right into her sister. They shared a vardo with their parents, sleeping on a folding bed that came out of the couch. It was cramped, but neither teenager were large. Merilyn mumbled and swatted her sister away, shoving her head under a pillow. Anwyn was going to do the same before the door opened and light spilled it. Blinded, she covered her face with the blanket, uttering a ‘ugh!’ in the process. Her protest was quickly matched with the demanding voice of their mother.

“Alright girls, it’s nearly evening! Time to get up and do your chores.”

The day after a celebration was met with leniency as most of the Natsia would be suffering from the fallout of said celebration. Still, things needed to get done. So, in dismay, the pair got up, got dressed, and tried to push through what remained of the day.

A Few Weeks Later:

It was not a surprise when Neoma brought up moving on. The surprise was where she intended to take them: Viceroyalty of Bravia. It was across the continent! It was a bold move for a new Kralisi. The girls (Neoma, Merilyn, and Anwyn) stayed up late discussing the idea in length before Neoma made her decision. Anwyn understood her friend’s desires to build up relationships outside of their small Natsia.

Anwyn had only heard bits and pieces of the Boreens Durri and their Kralisi Kaer. Aishe seemed to be rocking that side of the continent with new ideas and progressiveness. This was naturally appealing to the seventeen year old, who felt like the views of the old men and women in the Natsia was holding them back from something greater. At least, something greater for her personally.

As she helped pack up camp, she wondered. What was Aishe like? A woman married to another, leading her nation without restraint. What were the others in the Boreens Durri like? Were they as free as their Kralisi?

Then there were the darker thoughts. Aishe took over her grandfather’s Natsia, the Akaj. On one hand, good riddance. Bahram the Bastard had torn apart the Zoralo Natsia once when he was a young man, starting a civil war. Growing up on the stories that painted him as the villain he was, she was happy to hear he has fallen from his beloved throne. On the other hand, did it mean Aishe was power hungry? Were they just setting themselves up to be taken advantage of as well?

She decided to trust Neoma. She would follow her to the ends of the world if she had to. Neoma had her heart and, being a teenager of impulse, often her mind too. So, with everyone else, she jumped on her horse and rode alongside Neoma and her sister at the head of the group.

Translations coming later. Sorry! On phone!
Late May, 1662

There had been news of a large caravan moving through nearby Viceroyalties. It was impossible for many Vitsi to travel together and not be noticed. The banners told other Rom who exactly was wandering far from their normal paths: the Zoralo nation.

This caused Aishe pause. From what the reports said, it appeared to be the entire Natsia coming towards her doorstep. They did not seem to be marching, merely traveling with purpose. What purpose that was, she was unsure. Traditionally speaking, there was no reason to be wary. Rom don’t harm other Rom without cause. However, did they not have cause? She eradicated another Natsia, absorbing it into her own - a Natsia that could be seen as wrong or even impure. Boreens Durri welcomed all creatures and while most of the Rom community was not like Bahram, they were also not like Aishe. They were not so.. Understanding of circumstance over genetics. Nature verses nurture.

So, were they coming to take the throne out right from under her?

It seemed the most likely reason for them to be coming all this way, but she was hopeful. She pushed past the fog of depression and tried to think positively. That was a difficult thing to do, but Akos helped keep her grounded. Worse came to worse, they would be able to get out safely if things went poorly.

The traveling Natsia missed the BDR vitsi that traversed Valleria as they passed through, which meant her scouts had nothing new to tell her. Before long, they arrived the Latchom Kam Villa and camp. On edge, the camp was prepared, but shared their queen’s hope for a friendly visit from distant relatives instead of war. When she first spotted them, they did not appear to be a threat. No soldiers or warriors, cheerful depositions, normal dress. This gave her hope as she left the shelter of the estate.

She presented herself as the queen she was. A dress of gold with turquoise details and beading flowed in a dance of sheer materials around her bare legs. Material hung from either shoulders to create unnecessary sleeves in a sleeveless fashion. Jewelry of diamonds and aquamarines hung around her neck and ears, with a crown atop her head. Her long hair was braided on the sides and pulled back to cascade down her back. She was the queen of peace and friendship, with no weapon or ill intent.

She crossed the lawn and approach the caravan. At the head was a young woman, no older than Aishe looked. Curious bright eyes stared ahead as she stopped walking.

“ Ande save Natsia?”
