It was early in the afternoon when Neoma woke up. Her birthday celebration combined with her coronation had gone on until dawn. As she laid in bed trying to clear the fog from her head she let her mind wander over the events from the night before.
The people of the Zoralo Natsia had been anxiously waiting for ten years for her to finally come of age. After the illness took the lives her parents and several others, including her own life, the Rom had been devastated until she woke up as they were about to put her body on the pyre. From that day forward she had been called Parrav Kralisi, the Blessed Queen. Of course she wasn’t the Kralisi officially until last night.
She sighed as she sat up and pulled herself from the bed to get ready for the day. As she sat and stared at her reflection in the mirror, her purple eyes stared back at her. She smiled knowing that they had been a gift from the mages when they allowed her to live. Her eyes had been green and now they were the purple that Zareen had. She took comfort that Zareen would always be there to guide her.
The young queen finished brushing her hair and dressing and went outside to face the day.
A few weeks later
The days had gone on much like the days before she was crowned. She didn’t really feel much different. She spent time with her people and enjoyed the beauty of the season. It didn’t take long before she became restless. The Romany were travelers and they had been in the same place for a while, it was time to move on. She knew they had cousins that had established a permanent settlement in Bravia and she decided it was time to go visit them.
She gathered everyone to let them know to begin preparing for the journey. Most of her people were happy but there were some grumbles. The Rom had a long memory and some had not forgiven Aishe for taking over Bahram’s Natsia two years prior. She gently reminded them that the past was the past and it was time to heal old wounds and move ahead. The people of Boreens Durri were still their cousins and it was time to get to know them.
It did not take long for everyone to be ready and they set off.
