Adventures of "The Aerandir" (CRP)

Post by Tuvoria »

[This is a closed RP to document the sea adventures aboard the Galleon named "The
Aerandir". Kudos to those who know what the name means.]

The woods and nature have always had a special place in his heart. However, of late the sound and smells of the open seas have been tugging at Tuv's soul. Having Wyllow back and wanting to reconnect with him on the open water only make the call stronger.
The work on the Galleon he named "The Aerandir" was now complete. Tuv marveled at his craftsmanship as he took in her black teak wood trim and edging, her sleek, trim lines, and her three orange sails emblazoned with an orange blossom in honor of his bride.
The crew had been hired and the transport to the harbor in Paz had completed. Tuv marveled at her silent and sleek power as the ship sat docked. The final provisions were being loaded and on the morning tide she would sail out on her maiden voyage.
A new adventure was dawning for the Ralathondors. A new ship, a new purpose, and Wyl at his side. For the first time in months Tuv had a smile on his face. He turned with a pep in his step as he went off to meet with bride for dinner.

The sun was just beginning to crest above the horizon as Tuv exited his cabin and stepped out onto the main deck. He was excited for the day and where fate would take him, Wyl, and the crew he had assembled. He looked up to the wheelhouse when his helmsmen Jim greeted him.
Tuv greeted him and gave him permission to cast off and take them out. Jim shouted out orders and immediately lines where cast off and The Aerandir began to move away from the dock. A sense of pride began to swell up in him as Tuv watched the distinctive orange sails being raised and as they caught the early morning breeze.
When they had cleared the harbor Jim smiled at Tuv as he stood next to him at the helm.
"What course shall we set Captain?" Jim asked.
Tuv replied " Let's turn towards Port and see where the wind and the Mages take us my friend."
"Aye Aye Captain!" Came the response.

And the adventure begins...

Tuv stayed next to Jim until they hit the open waters of the Southern seas. As the sails bowed in the breeze, Tuv knew in his heart that this was where he belonged. With Wyl still sleeping, he made his way down to the main deck and towards the central mast. He quickly made his way up the mast with relative ease and clamored into the crow's nest. He sat down, dangling his feet over the edge as he looked out over the bow towards the horizon.
After a bit he noticed Wyl exit their cabin and step into the main deck. He sat and just watched her, with a deepening love in his heart, as she made her way up into the bow. The wind was blowing her hair over her shoulders, and the light mist blowing up added a glisten to her skin.
He made his way back down the mast and walked up beside her. He put his arm around her and pulled her close. She turned to look into his eyes and the love spoke volumes.
Tuv turned slightly towards the helm and shouted;" Hey Jim, isn't The city of Athena this direction? Let's set course for there and see what is happening."
As Tuv turned back to his bride he heard Jim shout out " Aye Captain it is. Adjusting course now."
Tuv stayed there a bit more before whispering he had to check charts and log data. He kissed Wyl on the cheek and headed back to his Captain's office. Once there he opened his log book and began to write.
Captain's Log 14 March 1663.
The Aeandir set sail out of Paz with the morning tide. The crew and Wyl all seem excited and eager to cast off. With the wind at our backs we turned towards Port after clearing the harbor and entering the open waters. Several members of the crew spotted dolphins following in our wake and jumping about. Morale and spirits run high. About midday it was noted we were on a course coming close to the port city of Athena. We decided to make that our first port of call. Charts were consulted and course adjusted. May the Mages continue to lead and bless us. Signed Captain Tuvoria Ralathondor

Her recovery was slower than she planned, but she was healthy.. strong and proud. She packed gladly. An adventure. She really couldn't wait. She had known that her husband had been working on a large project and he walked with a certain kick to his step. He amazed her. Simply. She thought back on their life. Ten years it will be... she thought to herself. Ten years in this Realm, together.

She sat on the bed and remembered back to that summer she had come here. Their friendship and love had blossomed easily. They enjoyed each other to a degree that almost seemed like a dream. When she thought maybe she could have lost to him, it nearly killed her. The simple thought could take her to her knees. But.. they had seen tough times and made it through. This voyage, this new adventure we well deserved.

It wasnt long and they were on their way to Paz. Her husband seemed to buzz with excitement. At their arrival, she wasn't sure what she had expected. The ship she just stared at, awe filling her. She knew about the ship, but she didnt expect it to be... this! It was magnificent and sharp looking. It looked solid. She looked to her husband unable to utter words as the moved onto the deck.

She's amazing Tuv. She looked up as they moved about. Directed towards the cabin, she moved there as he spoke with the crew. Tomorrow they would be off. She set to unpacking...

-----

It was early when she felt the movement of Tuvoria getting up. She turned slightly so that she could see him in the light shadow of the early morning. She smiled. He seemed like a young boy, so anxious. She let him go without saying a word. She wanted him to take it all in and greet the morning the way any wife hopes her husband does. She smiled to herself as she rolled over, warm and comfortable. Her hand trailed where he had been just moments ago, the bed still holding his warmth. She mused for a few moments, then decided it was time to get up herself.

She took her time in dressing and felt the ship as it moved upon the water. When she exited their cabin, the first person she looked for was him. It would always be so. She walked along and found herself at the bow, the feel of the sea air on her face stole her breath away. His arm came around her and she leaned into him. When she looked at him, there was no way she could hide how proud of him she was.

Still, there were no words... There didn't need to be any between them.

She watched as he commanded the vessel. She knew if he could, he would spend every second with her. I understand... Anything particular that you want to eat? I am assuming the Gally was filled to nearly stuffed? She joked with him, knowingly as the last several days she had also prepared for their journey, though her way of preparing was more aimed at keeping bellies filled. She hadn't said anything, but she wanted to feel useful. Of course there was a cook, but, she enjoyed looking after her husband.

Before he escaped to his duties, she hugged him tight. Being on the water like this was exciting, but also held a bit of danger. As they parted, she made her way along the other side of the ship before going below.

As Tuv checked the charts and measured their speed for his logs , he chuckled to himself about Wyl's comments regarding food and cooking. Her passion and skill in the kitchen was something he treasured about her. He had always loved to sneak into the back of her bakery and sample her confections. He had missed that when she was lost in the sleep of limbo. He knew this adventure would be good for her, yet he also knew that she was not yet fully back to her best.
However, he had ensured to stock the hold with many of the things he knew she loved to work with. He had also hired a cook who was more than eager to share the galley and work with Wyl. He knew should would love this set up. He licked his lips at the thought of once again tasting her sweet treats.
Having finished his charting and recording of info, Tuv checked with Jim to ensure all was still well and then headed below decks to check on things and spend some time with Wyl. When he found her below decks at the Galley, Tuv introduced her to Sam, the ships cook, and informed her that he has agreed to give her full access to the kitchen and the pantry. Tuv was happy to show her that he had laid up in the stores all of her favorite cooking items, and a few of her favorite pans and utensils from her bakery shop. He then poured himself a cup of tea with a bit of honey, sat down at the table, and enjoyed a bit of quiet as he watched Wyl check things out.
His joy and peace were beyond measure as he knew the Mages were looking out over them and what they had accomplished.

She smiled at Sam, though she knew she was in the way for the meals that were planned for later. As her husband settled at at table, she brought over a simple but luxurious breakfast, a smaller portion, but the same for herself as she settled next to him. Bacon, eggs, cheese and some lovely bread. When she had entered, she had been talking of the drink on board. Casks of Mead were available as well as other wines, brandies and ales. They had also stocked Orange juice to aid in dietary needs.

Dig in. She smiled at him. It was different eating on a vessel. Even though the one they were on was large, there was still plenty of movement from the ocean as they pushed what seemed effortlessly through the water. She like this. Tell me.. where are we headed to first? And how often do you think we will go ashore? She hated to admit, she new very little about sailing. Though she'd like to think over time she would learn.

To be fair, she didnt really care about going ashore, though being a woman, shopping was always forefront in thoughts - though, she wasn't the typical woman that enjoyed buying clothes, shoes and all of that pretty nonsense. She liked to dress nice, but was more comfortable in practicality.

She grinned at him between bites. I brought a list of things that I might want to pick up. She set the list in front of them, after pulling it out of her pocket. But I dont want it to be a focus. I know this voyage, exploration rather, has a point to it also. What she meant by her words was that she did not want to be the cause of any delays, unless it was planned out.

As Tuv was sitting enjoying the tea and enjoying his work, he was suddenly reminded of his hunger as he smelt the aromas of what Wyl and Sam were making.. he chuckled silently to himself as he saw Wyl bringing over the platter of goods to eat. He had forgotten how different eating in the open seas was compared to the close in sailing of his previous vessels. Still he was at peace with it all. He was amazed at Wyl's question but he knew it was her nature and that this was all very new to her.

" Well my love after consulting with Jim and looking at the charts we realized we were close to Athena. We will harbor there tomorrow after that we will late fate and the Mages see where we go. This ship was named 'The Aerandir' for a reason. In the old Elvish tongue of my ancestors it means "the Sea Wanderer". As such the plan is to wander the Seas around the known lands and occassionaly stop in a known port as the need arises or fate takes us. We have no real set course or timeframe, unless you wish to be back in our home by a certain time.I'm just thrilled that you have returned to me and can join me on this new adventure. Feel free to explore the ship and if something or someplace interests you let me know and we shall explore it."

Tuv then dipped his finger in some of the egg yolk on his plate and bopped it on the end of Wyl's nose almost knocking his remaining tea into his lap. He then kissed Wyl's nose ensuring to get some of the egg yolk and laughing out load at himself as he saw Sam smile and roll his eyes in the background.

Captains Log: The Aerandir 15 March 1663
This continue well on this maiden voyage. The Crew seems to have settled in nicely and even Wyl is beginning to get her sea legs. Seeing the her joy in working with Sam in the Galley is a bonus. With a good wind at our back we have crossed over in the waters of Fenia and should make it to the Port city of Athena on the morn. It is with hope and fear that I look forward to arriving in this port. This will be the ships first official docking at port outside of the docking after leaving the shipyards. Coming in under full sail with the distinctive orange sails should make for some interesting tavern chatter. Plans are to come in on the tide, stretch our legs on dry land and visit the markets to see what is available and allow the crew to post letters back to family in Bravia. Then on the next morn to head out with the tide and see where the Mages lead us. Life and the ship are both good. May we wander the seas and bring Light to all we encounter.

Athena was just as she remembered long ago. Sleepy little fishing town. She enjoyed the quiet here. It was quaint but their stay would be short here. As she climbed aboard the ship, she carried a fish with her. Taking it to the Galley, she spoke with Sam. It would make a great feast for the crew tonight.

Making her way back up, she decided to freshen up before the ship set sail. The town wasnt much to explore, but that was alright. Back in their cabin, she selecting some light clothes, for the weather was Spring and it was sunny and warm out. She then pulled out the rather small tub from the corner of the room and had it filled it with hot water. It wasn't an easy task to have water drawn up, she knew it was a luxury. But after handling that fish, she just had to. As she sank into the tup, slightly scrunched up as she was, she settled in and soaked until the the water cooled. It was then a race to scrub and wash her hair before the water turned cold.

Hearing voices close to the door, she sprang out and dressed hastily before opening the door and asking for the water to be tossed. Settling back, she began to brush her hair before braiding it. It amazed her how a simple bath could make her feel.

Before long she found herself ready and pulling on her boots. She felt movement in the ship and knew that they were leaving the dock. Rushing out, she went in search of Tuforia. Her eyes watching as the shore seemed to begin pulling away.

The Port of Athena was much like Tuv remembered from the last time he and Wyl had traveled through the area. He enjoyed these small fishing communities and the sense of brotherhood the local fishing communities have. Tuv wandered around the town about talking with some of the local fishermen before stopping by the temple for a period of reflection and prayer. It felt good to spend a bit of time in a Temple of Light again. Before he left, Tuv lit a candle in honor of the child he and Wyllow lost when she was caught up in the state of limbo. He knew the Mages had a plan and that some day again they would be blessed with children.
Before returning to the The Aerandir, Tuv stopped by a few pubs that he knew were popular with the fishing community in an effort to obtain some info on local conditions, currents, and waters. After buying a round and the locals finding out he was the Captain of the new ship in town, he was able to make a few friends and gather some useful info that he planned to share with Jim and the helms crew. Many of the locals were highly impressed with the look and design of The Aerandir and even more so when they found out Tuv had designed and built it. As such he was able to get info about a good fishing ground not to far from Athena that he could try out.
Having garnered this info, he made his way back towards his ship. As he rounded the corner to the pier where the Aerandir was docked he saw Wyl carrying what looked like a rather large Salmon up the gang plank. He licked his lips in thought of what she would do with that. He slowly continued his walk back to the ship taking in the sights, sounds, and smells of the harbor.
Once back on the ship he gathered Jim and the rest of the helms crew and shared with them the info he had gotten from the local fishermen. After consulting the charts they had, a general course and plan was put into place just as the Harbor Master was boarding the ship. He asked if they were ready to depart. Tuv thanked him for his hospitality and said he was free to take them out. Immediately orders rang out to cast of the plank and lines and the Aerandir began to drift away from the docks. Once they were at the edge of the harbor, the Harbor Master was lowered down to his skiff and Jim shouted out the command to hoist the sails and they were off to begin the next phase of the journey.
It was a bright and warm day as they headed out and Tuv loosened a few buttons on his shirt as he heard the water splash overboard as Wyl had finished cleaning up. As she came out of the cabin, he smiled and knew she was adapting well as he saw her hair in a braid. He turned control of the Helms Deck over to Jim and made his way down to where Wyl was.

"Hello my love. It is a great day is it not? I hope you enjoyed the bath. I know ship life can be difficult. I love your braid. I may have you braid mine as well. There is a hammock set up on the Aft Deck area if you want to come cuddle up with me. Jim has things under control and will only get me if something important comes up. We are going to drop sails probably sometime tomorrow to try something based on some info given to us by the local fishermen in Athena. I'm also curious as to what you and possibly Sam have in mind for that massive fish you carried onboard this morning."

Tuv then kissed Wyl's cheek and put his arm around her as he waited to she where she wanted to hang out and enjoy the day.
