POV: Winter Pearle
November 1st of 1664
Big blue eyes stared up at the colours above her. At a little over two and a half, the young girl had no recollection of any previous autumns. As a result, the ever changing world around her captured her attention constantly in the last few weeks. A world that had been so incredibly green - a colour she knew well and could identify audibly - was shifting in a dance of hues that she had "never" experienced before. The trees were changing their clothes to match her hair, her grandmother had said, who shared similar fiery red locks. The red hair was a unique Winterbourne trait in a sea of mostly dark haired individuals. For both grandmother and granddaughter, it was paired with fair skin and blue eyes. Winter's cousin, Prince Ambrose (son of King Zuan and Queen Mother Aishe), had similar looks. These shared traits would be something the cousins would bond over in the future, but for now, Winter was still too young to really appreciate her unique appearance.
The rocking of the horse stopped, which redirected her attention to more than the forest canopy above them. She looked around to see where they were, recognizing it as a familiar place not far from Clogwyn Keep. It was a small stream, with a large tree that provided shade in an otherwise semi-open area. However, a forest surrounded the little space, giving it seclusion and privacy. Excited, as it was one of her favourite places to be, Winter began to bounce. Her father's arm around her tightened to keep her from bouncing right off the saddle, pressing her closer to him in doing so. She began to exclaim how excited she was and how she couldn't wait for 'the surprise', talking so fast that Rhozin and the nanny likely had no idea what she was actually saying, if she were even saying real words. Keir, however, who sat on the nanny's horse, completely understood, nodding enthusiastically along. Her adopted brother of similar age was usually in agreement with the chatterbox, letting her outgoing personality speak for both of them.
"Easy there, Winnie, you'll start bouncing into the sky!" Rhozin's teasing tone had a small hint of truth behind it, eyes showing a slight concern. He was right to be wary: Winter was rather unpredictable with her abilities, which consistently kept all the adults on their toes. In her defense, even she did not know what she was doing half the time, and unfortunately, there was no living Gellygen with the airbending abilities to teach her. So, Rhozin had to use the methods and techniques he learned to control his own elemental magic, trying to tweak them so 1) a toddler could understand them, 2) they would be effective with a very different element than his.
"I ready, Dada, let's go!" She proclaimed, her not so subtle way of telling him she wanted to get down to walk around. She loved the sound of the crunchy leaves under her boots, or even just smooshing them between her little fingers. It was endless fun, truly, and if that was 'the surprise', she would be quite pleased. In fact, the idea of crunching leaves completely distracted her from the fact they were out there for anything else other than listening to that satisfying crunch.
