[Contest] But what's in a name?

Post by Orakio »

The pastures lush and green beneath the sun
Quite nicely doth their appetite seduce
And so now from my cows have I begun
A culture and a rennet to produce;

An agéd cheese, encrusted in its rind
With salt and herbs to flavour and preserve--
My finely crafted product now I find
To have a proper name it does deserve

So to the folk of Bravia I reach --
Five bottles of fresh milk I can afford --
A name for my variety beseech,
And offer to the winner this reward!

I will find no poem or rhyme
No matter the length of time,
For poems I've no sense or gift.
While cheese, some crackers and wine
With my Friend so good and kind
There wil nothing bring more lift.

Your cured cheese inside it's own rind
Shall no doubt be delicious,
Will even be nutritious,
The name you seek is of one kind.

Perhaps, "Elsie's Herbal," please,
Or even named "Bessie's Best."
Nay, to say, "Bravia's Choice Cheese,"
And add "We eat all we can and sell the rest."

((This post is out of character indeed
For have I thought that I should take the time
To give assurance that there is no need
For anybody to respond in rhyme

This simply is the way I choose to write
To have some fun and exercise my mind
But any interactions I invite
And soon enough I'll try to post in kind))

I think Kio's finest
would be fine
so we can dine
with the finest
(I know I am not a poet..)

I wander through time
Searching for the perfect kind
A delicately crafted sign
So that I may call forth and shine

I see into pasts most distant
I see into futures most far
I stand on the precipice and call out
A name risen from the char

"Black Pazian Cheddar"
A name beseeching of unique flavor
A name speaking of refined tastes

It calls forth to people far and wide
Demanding they turk there eyes
It calls forth to rich and poor
And lets them know to order more

Perhaps a troll might be so bold,
to call a cheese "Bravian Gold"
But should the curd improve one's wit,
"Oraki Pazano" might be a hit.

A brand to show both town and farmer,
"Paz de l'Orakalette" might be a charmer,
But if this cheese is fit for mages,
"Pazigiano Maggiano" certainly engages.

With apologies to poets and cheese gourmands alike.

Days now had he sat in contemplation
Over all the names that were suggested
None of them escaped consideration-
Thoughtfully their merits he digested;

He thought Bravia's choice was rather swell
And Kio's finest had a certain ring
Verily, Pazian Cheddar as well-
Each one was sure to make the senses sing--

Ah but then the next was music to his ears
Cheese that would down the centuries be sold-
Orakio did nearly well to tears
When he heard Logo say 'Bravian Gold'.

A Sonnet: In Appreciation of Life on the Wedge

The prize that thine own hand did make,
by name that did this troll suggest,
so brought unto my plate, I ate
and judged to win my own contest.
That taste so rich, is such reward,
that boon itself no praise outranks.
So sweet the crumble I'll safeguard
and send to you my humble thanks.
May Mages bless the cows that give
and hands that milk then stir the curd.
Through ages may the culture live
and joyful lips its praise be purred.
I'm glad I wrote a name to please
and "thank you" for the tasty cheese!
