Re: Home for Thorn

It had been several weeks since Michael had come for dinner at her home and Thorn had been busy since. When she had been asked to sit as Judge for the new Council under King Michael she had been happy to help. It had kept her busy at times and she had relied on Kathryn to look after Annabel.

Looking up from her writing Thorn looked across at her daughter and smiled. She had started a week ago pulling herself up on furniture and standing. Now she watched as Annabel walked along in front of the couch, holding herself up by moving her hands along, holding to the edge. It would not be long before the child was off and not yet one.

Smiling to herself Thorn went back to the letter she was writing and thought she would need to go see to things later.

The last few weeks all Thorn did was work. She barely saw a soul unless it was work related and the time she spent at home, she spent alone. She was fed up with herself and would leave the care of Annabel completely to Kathryn.

That morning she woke as usual and on sitting up felt headachy. Looking at the day outside her window Thorn shivered and decided she did not want to be a part of it. Laying down she pulled the covers up over herself and shut her eyes. No one would even notice she was missing Thorn decided as she shut her eyes.

The next day Thorn woke late. She stayed as she was, almost hidden completely with the covers from the daylight that streamed in her room. She felt nice and warm, but wondering how Annabel and Kathryn were, unsure of the time, Thorn sat slowly. Looking across her room she saw a fire burning in the grate of the fireplace in her room and knew Kathryn had been in, probably concerned. Thorn felt better today, though tired.

Slowly Thorn got out of bed, and finding a loose dress she made herself presentable. There was no intention of leaving the cottage that day. She would rest, convinced she would not be missed. As she thought of work and council and those connected Thorn realised she was now no better off than before she moved to Imperius. Promises had become empty words and she felt a pang at what she knew she had lost. Saddened Thorn left her room and went down the stairs into the main room. There she found Kathryn kneeding dough for bread and looking round saw Annabel sat on her blanket playing with a toy.

Morning, she said, not moving to see her daughter, feeling no urge. She frowned at herself and glanced at the child who she could not imagine being without, but felt there was something missing. Without another word Thorn moved to the stove and checking there was water in the kettle prepared tea for herself, which when made she carried through to the sitting room and sat in a chair over looking the garden.

In the woods a mist forms even though the day is bright and sunny.
Within the mist a figure appears...

The `Hooded Man` steps from the misty cloud which vanishes as quickly as it formed.
Looking at his companion he speaks words in a long dead tongue and watches as it takes flight.

Closing his eyes the `Hooded Man` seeks out the Wards of Protection.
Happy that they are still in place he opens his eyes and looks towards the manor of the lady Thorn.

'Tis time to return the child to her own plane of existence. She has fulfilled her purpose in this plane.' he whispers.

Making a complex gesture in the Old Magic he is moved to where the child called Annabelle is.

He stands and smiles at her.

"Greetings. I have come to take you back from whence you came." he whispers.
"You, have done all that was needed and more besides."
"The lady Thorn no longer has need of you."
"She is now complete."
"But, before we depart this plane of Existence I have one more task to perform for her."

The `Hooded Man`gathers the power of Earth and Air.
Combining them he uses that power to take away any and all traces of the child from this plane.
Then he weaves an enchantment of Forgetfulness.

'There, done. The lady Thorn may not remember you child but there will always be something that she will `feel` is missing.'

Taking the child by the hand he summons his companion and, weaving the charm of `Movement`in the air a portal appears.
Together they enter it and as it closes behind them everything that was the child's vanishes.
