Aingeal hugged Jacob back and kissed his cheek softly. I love you too, I just don't like you very much right now, Aingeal said, looking at him. I know you say your sorry, but it will take time for me to believe it. Aingeal picked up the plates and went to the sink to wash them up. Putting the dishes to dry, Aingeal wiped her hands on a towel besides the washbasin and then looked at Jacob.

Don't worry, I won't make you sleep out with the cows, she said with a slight smile. Although you won't be sleeping in my bed either, she said quickly, before he could say a word. You will find the spare room already set up for you, she told him, picking up one of the lanterns on the table.

Heading down the hallway to her room, she slipped into it quietly, muting the light till just a soft glow was cast over the room. Slipping out of her work clothes and into a shift, she listened to the sounds of Jacob out in the other rooms. Slipping between the cool sheets, tears pricked at her lashes. More than anything she wanted things to be like they were before, but right now those wishes were impossible. Curling up to her pillow she pulled the blanket around her tightly, still listening for the sounds of him moving about the house. Aingeal slipped into a fitful sleep, at least comforted by not being in the large house all alone.

Jacob finished cleaning the kitchen, it was quiet, not many words passed between them, he opted not to use the other room. Aingeal had said that he would not be allowed into the bed for a while, in which he understood, but they had shared this room and this house, they still shared their lives together and he wasn't going to let her just push him out like that. Jacob turned into his fox form and decided to sleep in the room and took his position at the foot of the bed but not on it.

Jacob did not sleep well either, he knew things would never be the same for them, but it was not beyond hope he thought that they should learn to love and laugh again as they had when they first met. Jacob decided if she admonished him for sleeping in the room to, then he'd take the other room, but if not, then he would take up his fox form and sleep at the foot of the bed but not on it until such time as she allowed him back in it.

The morning sun warmed her cheek as Aingeal slowly woke up from what was a terrible night of sleep. Rubbing the sleep out of her eyes, she picked up her robe and wrapped it around her, heading to the door. Her bare foot encountered something furry, and it was all she could do not to let a scream tear from her lips. Looking down she saw Jacob sleeping at the foot of her bed, and shaking her head she headed out into the hall.

She couldn't fault him for being in the room, he had at least respected the boundaries she had set up. For now she would act as if she hadn't seen him in her room at all, and went about fixing some breakfast and getting some coffee brewing on the stove. She sat at the table mentally making a list of what she was going to do today, while sipping her first cup of coffee.

Jacob woke up before Aingeal did, but he hadn't moved, even while she pretended to ignore him, he never let it be known he was actually awake. Jacob stayed in the room a while, he knew how much he'd hurt her, but he wasn't sure what to do that wouldn't result in making her more upset. While she was having breakfast he got up and came outside into the kitchen, no words spoken as he readied himself for the morning and his own chores, he got some coffee too and sat down. Jacob said, I'm going to do some repairs on the fences in the pasture... Jacob paused then continued, Are there any repaires you'd like me to do on the house too while I'm working today?

The days flowed into one another. Aingeal spent most of the time outside, clearing the snow and staying busy. She had finished the studies she had been working so hard on, and spent most of her time in her butchery now. Chicken legs and steak were in high demand in Imperious, her last batch of chicken being bought up by one person. If this kept up, she could soon restock her cow pen. Aingeal didn't see too much of Jacob, but she was sure he was around now and then. Most likely staying as a fox so he could spy on her and she would never know it.

The nights were the most difficult, she wasn't sure if he was home or not. Some days she would find him curled up at her feet, but nothing was ever said about it. Other times, he just wasn't there that she knew. Aingeal knew he was most likely with Victorious, spending time with the babies. Aingeal opened the door to her butchery, dragging a sack of plucked chickens she had just bought from the market. Finding her sharpest knife she went about prepping the birds.

She wondered if Jacob missed her as much as she missed him. She wondered if she would lose him to the babies... or worse to Victorious. Only time will tell, she told herself. Her thoughts went back to her time in the castle. Some days like today she missed her life before. It was like a lifetime ago, she wondered if some of the things were the same. Some day she should go back, back to her rightful place in Fenia, but today was not the day. Could be days, weeks or months before it was time, but sometime in the future, it would be time.

The morning broke early, the chill seeping in through the windows. Aingeal reluctantly pulled back the blankets, her feet hitting the cold floor. By the mages, she exclaimed, quickly slipping her feet into the slippers besides the bed. Wrapping her robe around her, she looked out the frosted window pane. A fresh coating of snow blanketed the yard, sparkling in the morning sunrise. Going to the kitchen Aingeal started a fire in the oven, noticing the wood box getting low. I'll have to bring in some wood today, she thought, mentally adding it to her list of things to do.

After heating some water and making herself a glass of hot tea, Aingeal went back to her room to dress. Pulling on extra layers, Aing bundled up good, knowing it would take awhile to get the cows settled, and not wanting to freeze. Pulling on some thick socks, she slipped her feet into her boots, sliding her sheathed dagger along her calf into her boot. Pulling on her jacket, gloves and hat, Aingeal was finally ready to head outside. Tossing a couple more logs onto the fire, Aingeal opened the door, shivering as the first wave of cold air hit her nose.

Making her way to the barn, she could feel and hear the snow crunching beneath her boots. Her breath created a fog every time she exhaled. The air was crisp and smelled of fresh fallen snow. Opening the barn door, the cows moo'ed in greeting. Laughing she went to the feed room, grabbing four sacks of wheat... and spread them out in the feed pans. Checking off to the side, she saw that she received milk from the milking she had hired out for. Gathering them up, she took them inside to keep them from freezing, thinking to head to town to market.

Putting the milk in the basket, along with some fresh steaks, she saddled her horse and headed to town.

Jacob was feeling frustrated, he had for weeks now, he'd gotten up early and left to take part in a town project then come home and work on projects there. Jacob's frustration came from that he felt that Aingeal was ignoring him more or less and he knew he faced two possible choices from it. When Jacob arrived home he saw that Aingeal was heading out, he considered if to stop her or not from going on her way, and he decided that he would not. The short of it was she was still mad at him, she was not going to face him, and at this time he was not in a place to confront her. When he thought about confronting her he felt extreme anger and anguish over it.

Jacob wanted to relate to Aingeal in a more mature way then he had in the past, in order to be able to do this he had to deal with his own conflicting emotions and the consequences of his actions. No one else could do this but him, as a result at least for this day, there would likely pass another day in which Aingeal would likely ignore Jacob even while he tried to make amends by being around the house and helping her. Jacob set about working on the fences around the property that needed replacing, Jacob being a carpenter and a knowledgeable worker decided to replace the entire fencing system with new wood, a taller fence and one with wider posts to hold up better. While Aingeal was in town, Jacob managed to replace the fencing going along the front side of the property and that which faced the main road they lived on.

While Jacob worked his mind was not only upon Aingeal but upon Victorious and his children, he knew he had to find away to integrate Aingeal into the lives of the children. As he thought about this he knew that it could not happen as long as she avoided confrontation with him and as long as he did not confront her. In this way the work was good for Jacob, he channeled his feelings and frustrations about how to resolve it into a project was worthwhile and would yield results. Occasionally Jacob would look up at the road to see if Aingeal had returned or not, despite whatever frustrations he may have felt over the relationship he still loved her and he was working for another chance, and perhaps without his prodding she might stop ignoring him, though he knew the reality of that was grim a best.

Aingeal went to town, the cold air clearing her head. Tears pricked at her cheeks as she thought about Jacob. Aingeal knew she had been ignoring his presence, but to her it was easier that way. Ignore the problem and after time it would go away.... but this wasn't going to work like that. The problem wasn't going to go away, and if she wasn't careful.... Jacob would be the one to go away too. As she got closer to town, she dried her eyes, and headed to the market.

Collecting the money that she had earned the previous day, Aingeal dropped off today's order and then went to the tavern for a drink. When she got there, Locien and Genova were there, and Genova was looking for a place in Spirus to live. Aingeal's old house was sitting empty, so she was all but happy to rent it to the woman. Locien also had made her a circlet, and after completing that transaction, Aingeal couldn't wait to set her final emerald in it. Placing it carefully in her satchel, she finally decided to head home, and to try to find Jacob.

The trip home seemed very long, and Aingeal urged the horse to pick it up a little. Coming around the last bend before their property, Aingeal could see Jacob had been busy, the fencing having been replaced. Smiling, she went around the next bend, she saw Jacob working and became hesitant. Aingeal didn't know what to say, how to act; one minute she wanted to cry, the next minute she didn't want to let him go. Taking a deep breath she pulled the horse to a stop. Sliding from the horses back, her boots crunched the snow as she landed. Looping the reins over one of the posts she looked at Jacob. Hello Jacob, she said tentatively, not knowing if he wanted her presence or not.

Whack!....Whack!.....Whack! It was the sound of the hammer against the nail, the posts having been set up at six feet intervals, now he was just putting in the railing between the posts. He had chosen a thicker wood, not just for the posts but for the railing, this he felt would hold up to both abuses of the weather and the cattle. Jacob was quick about his work for the most part, he was about halfway done with the front section of fencing when Aingeal had returned.

At first he could not hear her over the hammer, but he had felt her come up behind him, he did not turn around right away, he felt anger rise in himself for being so stupid. His mind was telling him, "Don't put your anger for your actions on her." Jacob cleared his mind as he finished checking the railing, then he turned around, and smiled. It was not a big joyful smile, it wasn't a reunion and she wasn't happy to see him, no use to pretend otherwise. As far as Jacob was concerned pretending wouldn't fix a damn thing between them, he took a moment as he collected his thoughts to search her eyes. He couldn't tell a thing in them anymore, somehow he picked up her conflicting emotions and wondered if she picked up on some of his, he spoke softly to her and kindly too. "Whatever you do, be sure your ready to do it." For Jacob he felt there was no use in talking until she was ready to stop ignoring him and them, in the end she was going to have to forgive him, it was the only way and if she could not forgive his actions, then it was over. Only Aingeal held the power and life of the relationship her hands, it would live her die by her verdict not his, he was doing what was right these days and she knew it even she had been ignoring him.

His eyes met hers, and she was startled and a bit confused. Looking at his eyes were like looking at hers in a mirror. She saw the same she saw in her reflection... hurt... pain... hesitation... and perhaps a bit of anger. Aingeal quickly pulled her gaze from his, looking down at her hands which were playing with the end of her scarf.

"Whatever you do, be sure your ready to do it," she heard him say, even though the words were said softly, she was sure they were laced with just a bit of accusation. She knew that she had been avoiding him, but what was she to do. She was like a animal with an injured paw, shirking away from contact worried about getting hurt again. Aingeal knew that unless she made some effort, it might as well be the end. The thought of that cut her deeply, and she wanted to fix it. Taking a tentitive step forward, she placed her gloved hand on Jacob's arm.

The fence looks good, she said, giving him a small smile. Do you perhaps have time for a break? she asked softly, sneaking a glance into his face. I thought perhaps we could go for a small ride in the sleigh, to talk... to perhaps spend some time together... she trailed off, dropping her gaze. They needed to talk, not to merely just coexist. Aingeal hoped that this could be the start, She looked back into his eyes, trying again to search them, hoping he could see in hers that she wanted to try to make things work.
