[RP] Songbird Cottage home of Lyskard and Louisa

Post by Lyskard »

They had travelled for a very long journey across many lands. There one desire was a home they could call their own. A place that was serene, a place free from wars, unrest, and distrust of strangers.

Lyskard and Louisa were a very happy couple, unlike many they had left behind, and many they had met during their travels. Young, carefree, full of laughter and fun, they were also utterly devoted to each other. What ever their days brought them, side by side, they faced them together.

Now, on reaching the shores of Bravia, they seemed very pleased with what this new land had to offer them both. The actual town they walked into was called Paz.. lightly populated full of friendly people..Will it remain this way ...that was what Louisa and Lyskard was willing to find out . But first, a home was to be built. Lyskard being a very adaptable young man, set, with the help of their new found friends, collecting all the materials he would need to build their home. The had found an ideal place, near a qaint idylic stream. For the next few months Lyskard and his wife Louisa, with the occasional help of friends slowly built their home, a thatched cottage.

More than pleased with the end result of all their hard word, both took time over the next month or more planting a garden to the front an back of their dream home. Then one day returning from the local market, they stopped some distance from their home to take in the view of their beautiful cottage..Words failed them with what their eyes beheld, so turning to face each other, they embraced to seal their future in this new land with a affectionate kiss.

It seemed like forever, the journey through many towns, many counties seemed to go on forever. The search for a town of peace, friendliness and most of all a welcoming sense of belonging was all they were looking for. Not much of an ask…but so far it seemed an unsurmountable problem.

It was by chance that Lys had heard of a new land and after much discussion they loaded all their worldly possessions together and took off hopeful that they had at last found what they had been looking for.

Now many months down the track they had settled in well…their cottage built and finished, the garden lovingly planted now was an explosive picture of blooms. They had taken care over where they wanted to build and seeing the cottage finished only make the choice so much better than they ever thought it would be. To wake and hear the ducks that paddled serenely up and down the pond each morning only added to the conclusion that they had both picked right.

The trip to the market was one of fun and laugher…much like most of their days. They had investigated every inch of their new towns market place found what they had wanted then walked back hand in hand towards their new home. Not far from home they both stopped, smiles breaking out as they gazed at their place. With arms wrapped around each other…they both knew they had made the right decision and sealed it with a tender kiss.

Picking up the basket of goods they had bought from the marketplace, Lys took his wife's hand then together they walked along the pathway to the entrance of their proud cottage. Suddenly his stomach rumbled like an volcanic bubbling lava flow. It had been quite unexpected, so turning to Louisa " Hmmmmm..that was a message from the depths of dissent..." At the sound, Louisa turned to him, just about to voice a comment, instead she burst out laughing at the way Lys excused the breaking of silence. " Okies my love, we will prepare a nice meal to satiate your delirious innards.." Scooping her up in his arms, Lys chuckled as he carried her over the threshold.. " Then hunni, I better escort you to the kitchen, while I then go pick our first vegetables from the garden.." Still chuckling, she countered... " Lys, you're one big romantic softie.."

Leaving Louisa in the kitchen, Lys headed to the vegetable patch they had partitioned off at the bottom of their large garden. They had designed it as a four section rectangle patch, using three... as one for root vegetables ; one for greens, and one for other surface vegetables. Leaving the fourth as a fallow patch. Closer to the cottage, a herbal garden was created for Louisa's culinary arts.

Placing a selection of root veg in the basket he had taken with him, Lys next squatted looking at the row of cabbages before him. He was still staring at them when from behind, Louisa, after watching him for the last ten minutes out the kitchen window, had left what she was doing to find out what had captivated her husbands attention..." Lys ?...what is wrong ? " Turning to face her with a deadpan look, he answered.. " Nothing wrong hunni, but a butterfly was having it's dinner, and I just didn't have the heart to disturb it...." Turning his attention back to the garden giggling, she looked at him in disbelief...then it dawned on her he was pulling her leg.. " Lyskard !! you.....you..." and gave him a playful push...Which..sent him flying to meet his imaginary butterfly...lying amongst the row of cabbages laughing, she offered..." And while you're there...the green one looks nice " Then in gales of laughter, she ran back towards to cottage before he coud get up..

Happily walking towards their cottage Louisa’s ears picked up a rumbling sound…looking up into the sky she could see no dark threatening clouds so that ruled out thunder. “Hmmmmm..that was a message from the depths of dissent..." Then she realised it was his stomach making those sounds and burst into laughter " Okies my love, we will prepare a nice meal to satiate your delirious innards.." No sooner had she uttered those words than she felt herself being scooped up and carried in the direction of the kitchen.

Grinning she watched as he headed off towards their vegetable garden that they had spent many a day choosing the right spot, then turning the soil over, ridding it of weeds and grass before sectioning it off and planting the vegetables that they both loved. With much energy she began to gather items for a lunch not too heavy, just a light lunch enough to quell Lys’s stomach until dinnertime. She stood watching him as he decided on which vegetable was ready to be harvested then he went still…seems something had caught his attention…either that or he was conversing with the plants, something she wouldn’t put past him.

Chuckling to herself, she proceeded to head his way curious to see exactly what it was….and since she couldn’t hear his voice…assumed something else had him so enthralled. “Lys ?...what is wrong?” Now she began to worry, watching as he turned to face her, his face so serious she heard him say " Nothing wrong hunni, but a butterfly was having it's dinner, and I just didn't have the heart to disturb it...."

Blinked once…then again as the words he just uttered sunk in….Lys on the other hand had turned away and began to giggle. Then her face changed from one of concern to one of exasperation she herself fought to quell the rising laughter… “Lyskard!! You….you” she stuttered shaking her head at the antics of her husband. Seeing no other recourse she instead pushed him playfully into the row of cabbages he had been staring at… “And while you’re there…the green one looks nice”

With peals of laughter she turned tail and took off running back to the sanctuary of the her kitchen her laughter echoed around the garden as she left him to become more acquainted with his “butterfly”

Lying amonst their cabbages, all that Lys could do was laugh at the fleeing louisa. Slowly getting to his feet, with a smile still adorning his features, and a chuckle accompanied the smile. If there was one aspect that, besides their deep love, that they shared, it was their sense of humour. Lys was forever catching her unexpectedly with his pranks. Knowing how inquizitive she was, he knew she would come to check why he was seemingly frozen in suspended animation. His chuckle soon turned to laughter, with a satisfaction that once more, he had caught her, hook, line and sinker.

Finishing off collecting their required vegetables in the basket, plus her desired cabbage, Lys made his way down the path to the kitchen door. Stepping inside, a smile still on his face, he was greeted with a smiling but wary Louisa. Then looking her in the eye, he informed her " Hunni.. I'm home.." followed by a throaty chuckle. Walking up to stand beside her, he placed the basket close to the sink. Them his arm slipped slowly around her waist as he gave her a gentle kiss on her neck " I'll clean and prepare these for you hunni " While they both prepared their dinner, their banter continued amongst gentle chuckles.....

Soon both had finished the chores each had partaken in. Then meal was left to cook, while cleaned away the refuse and utensils they'd used. Satisfied they had completed the task, they walked into their living area, with lys's arm gently resting on his wife's waist. Together they relaxed side by side, discussing what either would like to do once they had their hunger sated. One topic that arose, was meeting fellow villagers in the area. Find out who lived close by, and whether like them selves, were newcomers, or long time residents. For today, they settled on taking a walk, get to know their surroundings.

Their discussion had been interupted by Louisa stating that their meal should be ready now. So as she arose, Lys arose also.. " I'll set the table for us ready sweetheart, while you're preparing the meal " It was a chore he had always done, ever since they married in their previous land. Plus, as a ritual, he always made that same statement. Once seated, and tucking into their meal, Lys paused, looked at his wife then smiled, thankful he had been blessed with a wife who had the identical characteristics as himself.

Shaking her head she wondered why she never woke up to his antics…but then again she was just a guilty as he was of doing the exact same thing. Still chuckling away to herself she watched as he made his way back inside, turning the check on just how much devilment was lurking in those eyes of his. Turning her attention back to what she was doing, a soft sigh escaped as his hand found her waist, his lips her neck . “Nope” she thought “not a single second of their time together would she change”

“I’ll clean and prepare these for you hunni.” As side by side they worked, their teasing words and looks parried back and forth until their meal was cooking away and the kitchen was back to it spotless state once more. Together they sat discussing what to do to fill their afternoon in since they had caught up on all their chores…the rest of the day was theirs to do whatever they wanted. A few suggestions came up but one they talked further on…meeting fellow townsfolk that lived nearby.

Both were keen to learn more about their new home and what better way than to make new friends with those that lived nearby or by visiting the local tavern. So it was agreed a walk would do for now…get the feel of the town and who knows that visit to the tavern may just be on the cards as well.

Checking the time and going by the aromas emitting from the kitchen she stood bringing their discussion to a temporarily halt as Lys offered to set the table while she dished out their meal. Taking their seats, they began to eat, her eyes caught his looking back at her with a look she knew only too well. The same that she often sent his way… the thankfulness they both felt at finding just how well they clicked together, had done so from the very beginning. Returning his smile they continued their previous discussion as they ate.

Never more than a few brief moments had they fail to converse at meal times. Mandate topics, eventful topics, even near and far future plans. What ever they spoke of, there was always that unity bonding them. Today was no different. Today was topical of how they would pass their time after their meal was eaten and dishes cleared away.

What we can do hunni, start by following the path around the stream, see where it take us, we just might meet my new friend the butterfly..." then after recieving a... 'there's a reply to that somewhere' smile, Lys started to chuckle.

No sooner had they returned their kitchen to it's normal tidy state, that Louia tilted her head to one side with her one brow raised " So my love, are you ready to re-acquaint yourself with you new-found friend....Hmmmm ? " Holding out his hand to her, returning her smile, he says... " okies hunni let's .....fly "

Walking out of their cottage, then along the path bordering the stream, the were a picture of gaiety to any one who watched them strolling hand in hand, their laughter floating with the midday summer breeze. they had a lot to be happy about, they had found this pictureque land, and had been able to build a home of their own, and of course, they had each other. Suddenly Louisa's attention was captured by something floating by the trees "Love, is that your new friend ? " as her laughter increased, Lys with a straight face looked at the butterfly hovering above a leaf.. " Nope hunni, mine ate cabbages.. "

"What we can do hunni, start by following the path around the stream, see where it takes us, we just might meet my new friend the butterfly..." Eyebrow arched she gave him one of her ‘do I answer that” looks as he began to chuckle.

Turning away she smiled to herself, gathering their dishes she set to cleaning up after their lunch, he never in all the time she had known him passed up a chance to make her laugh. Their life together kept getting better each passing day and more than once she thanked the powers that be for sending him her way. Dishes washed, put away and the room back to its normal state she faced her love “So my love, are you ready to re-acquaint yourself with your new-found friend… hmmmm?” giving a cheeky grin.

The day was glorious and made for strolling as hand in hand as they followed the path that skirted around the pond.. Breathing deeply the smell of the flowers was intoxicating; everywhere she looked was a blaze of colour. Summertime was such a delight longer days, balmy nights, and a warmth that promised much. Birds chirping, bees buzzing and …well… what have we here a delighted smile formed on her face as she looked between Lys and the insect that caught her attention.

“Love, is that your new friend?” she beamed pointing in the direction of a butterfly flitting amongst the blooms …. “Nope hunni, mine ate cabbages..” looking at the straight face he now portrayed brought peels of laughter from her… “Ah so just the common everyday vegetable butterfly hmmm?..... maybe should charge for eating at our patch sweetie!”

Their laughter echoed as they continued their stroll towards the town.

No couple could be as close in so many ways as Lys and Louisa as they followed the path in their loving joviality. From the moment they had met so long ago he had become a completely changed man. Gone was morose disposition, to be replaced with the love of life filled with so much laughter and fun. they complimented each other.

With hands clasped they continued until Lys caught something move out of the corner of his eye. Stopping, he released her hand One moment sweetheart..I just saw something.... Slowly walking off the path across the grass Lys kept his eyes on the bundle that took his attention. As he approached, it made a sudden movement to run, fell over, then tried again. It was badly injured. With a low soft voice, he soothingly spoke... It's ok my friend, Lys has no intention of hurting you.. Bending down as he reached the strickened animal, he gently wrapped his hands around it body and brought it into his arms, all the time softly talking to calm the frighten animal. Sensing Lys meant it no harm, it gave up all resistance to settle where Lys held it. Walking back to louisa, who was wondering what on earth Lys was in conference with, he showed the young fox cub to her Sweetheart, I think it has a broken leg...do you mind if we postpone our walk for another time ? this poor chap needs our help badly, we have to attend to it injury..... and a drink of milk would be a welcome too if I'm not mistaken Nodding in agreement with his request, they turned around retracing their path back to their cottage. during the walk back, their attention and concern was for once not on each other, but for the stricken fox cub You think love we can mend it's leg.... more importantly...will it survive ? The concern for the care of the young cub was the sombre topic of their conversation back to their home. Nursing a wild animal was a precarious task. Even with all the devotion to it's well being, it was 75% down to the animals will to live, and of cause, to try set the broken leg without causing unnecessary pain. Yes sweetheart, with our care I do believe we can help him, another good thing love...it looks like a very recent injury, so health wise it is in good shape...more frightened than anything else.

“One moment sweetheart….I just saw something…” letting go of her hand he took off towards the grassed area…curious she wondered if this was another ‘friend’ of his. Making her way towards the spot he now stood with who knew what in his arms, a ready smile on her face, only to see that when he turned at her arrival it wasn’t a ploy to have her in fits of laughter but something more serious.

“Sweetheart, I think it has a broken let…do you mind if we postpone our walk for another time? This poor chap needs our help badly, we have to attend to it’s injury…and a drink of milk would be a welcome too if I’m not mistaken” Looking down into his arms the smile faded to a look of concern as she saw the small furry bundle Lys had. “Awww…poor wee thing…Lys it’s only a baby…shouldn’t be out here on its own” Louisa looked around wondering what happened to its mother…surely she wouldn’t have abandoned her little one.

Walking back quicker than they had first set out…it wasn’t long before they reached home…’You think love we can mend its leg?....more importantly…will it survive?” Never having had to look after any wildlife before Louisa had no idea the survival rate…and considering the young age of the fox cub …would shock set in before they could help the poor thing.

‘Yes sweetheart, with our care I do believe we can help him, another good thing love…it looks like a very recent injury, so health wise it is in good shape…more frightened than anything else.” Nodding she hurried to open the front door, then making her way towards the kitchen began to look for something to bandage the poor things leg…it had to be stable that much she knew. Not finding anything she ventured into the linen press…grabbing an old sheet she new had seen better days, a blanket and a small blue towel as an after thought.

Placing the blanket on the kitchen table she watched as Lys checked the fox cub for any other injuries…with a satisfied nod that all was well…began the task of making sure the young ones bones where in alignment. Bounding the back leg with the strips of sheeting that she was handing him the task was soon complete. The blue bandage helped to keep the other bandage clean and actually looked quite smart in her eyes even though the young cub didn't look all that impressed.

Seeing that there patient was much more comfortable, Louisa went to heat a small bowl of milk hoping that they would be able to get some liquid into the youngster, while Lys spoke softly to the baby fox. A smile hovered as she watched seeing how gentle his whole manner was towards the young creature…. Made her wonder what he would be like with their children if and when they decided to have any.
