Mischief Unmanageable

Post by Tarance »

The tiny blue imp hooted and hollered as he pounced and stomped about. He had found a new home in this place they called Bravia. Tarance had wandered about all day and found a nice little cottage near the orchard. It wasn't his but he'd noticed a loose nail near the roof and when he'd wiggled and yanked for an hour, he finally managed to find a nice little space for himself. The owner of the house had made a slanted roof, but had obviously decided that they wanted a flat ceiling. The attic space was too small for "normal" people (but who cares what normal is anyhow. Certainly not me... hehehe... Tarance like un-normal...). It was, however, perfect for a tiny imp. As a bonus, the cottage owner had a chicken coop out behind the place and Tarance had already managed to steal two eggs.

He laughed manaically and placed his two new prizes in a prominent place, promising himself he'd buy - or maybe steal - some furnishings. For now he had gathered a pile of feathers from the chicken, plucking a few and causing quite the delicious commotion amongst the chickens. The feathers he arranged into a bed of sorts and as he drifted off to sleep he chattered madly to himself.

"Tarance will get some nice things... hehehe... I will maybe wash the churchy tomorrow... then throw some more rocks... maybe an eggy for sploogeys..."

Tarance had enjoyed his time in the Tavern with several creatures. He had a thought for a moment that one of them wasn't very fond of him, but the thought passed like a lazy breeze and he shrugged.

His foraging had netted him some aloe, he stored that for later and munched a couple of eggs while he held up his prize from the Tavern and pondered.

What does Tarance want to do with gluey-sticky-leafy stuffs?

His wide, toothy grin curled up as mischief popped into his head and he ran off again to pull a prank with his prize.

Tarance stacks his stones in a manner that sort of resembled a table, well, at least it was usable as such. He placed the spare golem piece as a centrepiece and tilted his head to analyze it, budging it back and forth repeatedly until he was satisfied. He'd also pocketed 1.15 frez from some unsuspecting peasant during the fight, so he was well pleased with his work for the day and sat down to enjoy a snack before falling over into his pile of feathers and snoring loud enough to wake the chickens in their coop.

After a quick nap, the Imp had gotten up and wandered over to the Tavern. His goal wasn't set, just to go and see what he could get into. After all, mischief didn't just happen, he was a purposeful Imp - at times.

The chaos that ensued was amazing and he came home happy, with a few extra silver, a full belly and a pet pigeon to ride. His hole-in-the-attic home was big enough to be sectioned off, so he made an area to keep the pigeon in and made sure the bird couldn't fly away on him.

"Calls you something.... but waht?" Tarance pondered this for a while, muttering, "Fly, Flew, Faloo, Feliu."

He grinned as the bird reacted to the last word, "Feliu? Okey dokey doookey. Yer Feliu."

He patted Feliu and spread some spare wheat grains for the bird before going to rearrange his own living space now that he'd made a mess of it in his pigeon paddock building.

Tarance dragged his prizes home and shoved them inside one by one. Feliu, his trusty Pigeon-steed, fluttered his wings, none too pleased to be disturbed from his nap. Tarance was feeding the bird, so it was content to stay put and the tiny blue Imp was managing to teach it not to bite through the yarn he was using as a harness and tether.

Tarance took his golem pieces and placed them strategically so they would catch light and reflect it in a manner that pleased him. Whic was to say, Tarance put the pieces up in a haphazard way.

He patted the bird, gave it some more grains and flomped into his bed of feathers for a nap.

Tarance had been to the training ground and thrown his eggs at the instructor instead of "juggling". Was much more fun to watch the silly man dodge his eggs than try dodging them himself. On his way home some random stranger had called out "Good Work!" to him and he sensed that someone had heard that and thought better of the little blue terror. He found a stinky old rose too and stopped by the market to sell it after getting rid of the stench of it by rubbing it on his soiled leggings.

This had all put Tarance in a strange mood and he grumbled as he headed home. He'd managed to convince the peasants whose home he'd invaded that they needed a set of "stairs" up to his little attic hole. Well, "stairs" wasn't quite it. Was more of a higgeldy piggeldy stack of boxes and old boards that they piled securely so Tarance could run up to his attic instead of flying. It gave him better ways to get goods up, so he was pleased enough with it.

Before heading inside he went up to the roof. He'd planted his veggies and wheat up there, getting the most sun he could and picked the veggies that were ready. The wheat was a few days away, and Tarance was changing it to corn after. He wanted popcorn, so he'd happily get the corn going.

While he worked he sang, the sound probably wouldn't even please his own mother though, "INches by, inch, Roow by wittle ROOW. Tarance makes a gerdan grooooooooow."

Callie was wandering around Bravia, trying to figure out where her auntie was hiding from her, because she knew her auntie was here somewhere. It was a surprise visit, she had begged and pleaded with her steward, Alice to bring her, and finally the woman relented. If for no other reason than it would give her a little break from the mischievous child. A steward was not supposed to be a baby sitter, and Alice planned on telling Callie's relatives that as soon as she dropped the tiny toddler off. Of course, Callie being Callie, had turned a corner when Alice had not, and gotten separated from the woman, much to Callie's delight and Alice's dismay. (Yes Alice was unhappy about it, hard to explain to an aunt or a grandmother that you lost a child, or protest having to baby sit if you couldn't keep track of your charge. And Callie was happy about it because it meant she could explore. Boring Alice never wanted to explore any of the nooks and crannies of a town, and unboring Callie wanted to know each nook and cranny intimately. And no, not that type of intimately...the type where you knew them all like the back of your hand intimately you silly readers).

Anyhow, as Callie was wandering, she noticed a curious sight. Curious to her that is, even if not curious to you. She saw the cutest little winged blue creature, almost her size, who was mumbling or grumbling as he passed. Callie's face broke into a huge smile, dimple to dimple, cheek to cheek. And forgetting her auntie for now, Callie began to follow the little fellow. Through the marketplace, between buildings, around and even under the legs of peasants, she continued on and on until she saw an even curiouser sight. Yes, she saw a stack of boxes and boards, piled together in a most amusing fashion...almost but not really resembling stairs, and looking like it might fall over at any minute, yet managed to be secure regardless. Callie watched the blue creature run up the boxes with delight, unable to keep a giggle from escaping. Not that she really tried to keep it from escaping, she liked to giggle so why hold the giggles back? That would be a silly thing to do for anyone who liked to laugh as much as Callie did, or anyone else for that matter, even if some old hodge podge stick in the mud type folks might like to hold things like that back.

They tiny toddler toddled and waddled her way over to the boxes, looked up at the little blue impish creature, then ahead at the boxes, then up again, then smiled her biggest, prettiest, most dimpliest smile ever. And she began to climb. Up, up, up she went. Past a loose nail and loose board near the roof, up, up, up until she reached the most impressive, and only, rooftop veggie and wheat garden ever. Of course, she saw the imp in the garden picking veggies, and why wouldn't she? After all, she had been following the fellow for a while, even if he hadn't noticed. And to her even greater delight, he was singing a song, one she'd not heard before, probably because he made it up, much like what Callie did when she sang songs. And Callie being Callie, decided to join in on his song, giggling delightedly as she did; Insh by insh...roww by widdwe rowww...yew makeded yew gawdeennn gwwwoooooooowwwww ... Hewwooo!

Tarance jumped and did an in air flip when he heard a voice join in his song. It certainly didn't make the words more understandable, but - at least to a peasant - might have made it a more pleasing sound. He flapped his wings slowly, as if looking around the corner or under the bed, to locate the strange, bubbly sound. His acid green and neon yellow eyes opened wide, and if he'd had eyebrows at all those would have jumped off his face in surprise too.

This... thing... was on HIS roof. It wasn't MUCH bigger than he was, but it WAS bigger. It looked like a child, but it was alone, and things around these parts weren't always what they seemed.

Being eminently practical - for an Imp - Tarance liked to know how far he could take his mischief without getting himself hurt, so he started by asking it what it was.

"Yousis whet kindder fing?"

While he waited for it to answer he fluttered down to sit in the middle of his veggie patch at what he *assumed* would be a safe distance.

Callie saw the little creature do a flip in mid air, causing her to giggle and clap her hands while she spun around, her skirts rising up and twirling with her, much to her delight. Yayyyy, dat was really neet, how yew do dat? Can yew teech Callie how to do dat too? She moved closer, seeing the different colored eyes flash at her. She couldn't remember ever seeing anyone, human or otherwise, with two different colored eyes like that. She might have, but she sure couldn't remember it. And they were so fascinating, the way they flashed and caught the light, and got so much wider than she expected any eyes were able to be. Callie continued to giggle and smile, her dimples dimpling deeper into her chubby little cheeks.

She watched him flutter and flitter and finally land in his veggies, all the while she inched closer. She was just dying to touch him...well not dying, as she was very much alive, but she really did want to touch him and see how he felt, especially those wings. They were so different than the wings of her hippogriff, they weren't feathery or furry looking at all. More leathery maybe, though Callie wasn't sure she knew what leathery was, nor how leathery felt. She did want to find out though, if she could manage to get close enough. And the little impish fellow was downright cute, just the right size for her to huggle and snuggle and take on rides with her and Nodwin...if she could get close enough...

When he asked her a question, being the polite tiny toddler she was, Callie answered. And Callie being Callie, her answer was probably more than he expected it to be. Callie ish Callie. Callie ish a mostwy hewman hafwing. Dat be obiekaybie wif yew? Callie name ish Callie. Wat yew name? What kindda fingy ish yew? Can Callie touchy yew? Yew ish blue, did yew know dat? Yew gotted wings and ken fwy wikey Nodwin. Yew wikey to fwy? Fwying ish fun. Callie wikey to fwy. Callie wikey to fwy hiiiii innna skyyyyyy. Callie eben wikey to wace inna sky wif Wogo and Snak and dwagon fwend Baleroon. Yew should do dat wif Callie. Callie betted yew would wikey dat too.

Tarance cocked his head to one side, a bewildered look on his face as the halfling child pattered on at him. He managed to understand that she was a Callie - whatever a Callie was. He nodded mutely when it asked if that was "obiekaybie" with him. She prattled on asking a string of questions and ending up far from just "hello, who are you?"

He still wasn't quite sure how to cause mischief with this one, so he temporarily decided to be nice and hopped a little closer. He used the nearest potato like a pommel horse before landing within touching reach of the Callie-thing.

Being that his mind was usually on mischief, Tarance had to think slower than usual in order to remember all the questions, but he finally managed and recited the answers. "Me be Tarance and Tarance be Imp. The Callie thing can touch... fer now. Tarance iz brue, yesh knowin that. Tarance liken flyen, yep. What ish a Wogo anna Snak? Races are innerestin."

While he spoke he settled himself, hunched down with his wings spread out. He braced himself for anything, he didn't know if this Callie could electrocute him or set him on fire or what, but he'd be ready to retaliate. His ears were laid flat like a cat's, keeping them out of the way of getting yanked as he kept a careful eye on her hand.
