Alignment and Aura are two different but related things, so they are both covered here.

Alignment

This is the scale of how to light to dark your character is.

There may be more things that you will find it affects as well. One such example is that when you serve in the Temple/Cathedral, the potency of your cursing or blessing will be affected by your alignment. Sometimes, if you try a blessing as a dark alignment character, you may find yourself lowering the person's alignment, even if that isn't your intention!

Alignment Range

Alignment ranges are as follows:

  • -1000 to -334: Dark
  • -333 to 333: Neutral
  • 334 to 1000: Light

With this in mind, alignment is based upon choices that you make while going through your life here.

Increasing Alignment

Here are some way to increase your alignment:

  • Clean Windows in a Light Temple
  • Break Windows in a Dark Temple
  • Attend Mass in a Light Temple
  • Tend Flowers in a Graveyard
  • Kill a negatively aligned creature (i.e. Yvyrm, Wyrvell, Some characters)

Lowering Alignment

Ways to Lower Alignment:

  • Break Windows in a Light Temple
  • Clean Windows in a Dark Temple
  • Attend Mass in a Dark Temple
  • Loot a grave
  • Kill a positively aligned creature (i.e. Zyrks, Xanthareels, Some characters)

Neutral Temples or Shrines

Neutral Temple alignment changes are a bit more complicated.

Actions at a Neutral Temple or shrine are meant to drive the alignment closer to 0 for actions that are deemed helpful and away from neutrality for actions that are deemed hurtful.

In other words, if you are positively aligned, then cleaning windows will cause a decrease. Breaking windows will cause an increase. If you are negatively aligned, then cleaning windows will cause an increase in alignment while breaking windows will cause a decrease in alignment.

Attending mass in a neutral temple will result in the same effect as cleaning windows (as of 3.1.003).

Equipment Alignment

In the item guide, you can see if an item gives a bonus to alignment (e.g. "Alignment Bonus: Dark"). You alignment affects stat bonuses on certain armor and gear:

  • Light Alignment gives bonuses to golden armor sets.
  • Neutral Alignment gives bonuses to leather armor sets.
  • Dark Alignment gives bonuses to bone armor sets.

The bonus in combat is a random addition up to the value of the stat and it is randomly chosen for each stat, each round. This means if you have an alignment bonus with a piece of equipment that has +5 Strength, you could see a bonus of +5 one round and +0 the second round.

Aura

An aura refers to what others in office see regarding your character in various town facilities.

Aura Types

There are 3 main types of Auras in Secfenia:

  1. Temple Aura (This is shown on the main temple screen)
  2. Preventative Aura (This is shown when trying to do an action that is not permitted at the time)
  3. Protection Aura (This is shown in the office that it applies)

Temple Aura

This can range from Black to White. This is the defensive bonus of the temple. If the Temple Status is not serene (which is done by casting Chaos), the Aura will be a bonus used to determine if Revolters on the Temple succeed or not. The basic gist is that the number of revolters needed is (1 + Aura %/100) * Number of Defenders + 1. As a side note, remember that the Sheriff determines if the Town Militia aids the Temple or not.

The Aura Colors are:

  • Black (0-20% Defense Bonus)
  • Dull Grey (21-40% Defense Bonus)
  • Silver (41-60% Defense Bonus)
  • Gold (61-75% Defense Bonus)
  • Pearl (76-90% Defense Bonus)
  • Pure White (91-100% Defense Bonus)

Prevention Aura

This may happen if you attempt to revolt or besiege something that has recently been enabled and is protected by the Mages. When a new town is opened, there is a transition period in which no revolts or army besieges can be done to allow the basic structure to get into town. Typically this is 30 days. You will receive the message: "A strange glow surrounds you and..."

Protection Aura

  • Yellow Aura: The Town/VR Treasury is protected from Corruption. This is typically done only in the transition period when a Town/VR is opened
  • Brown Aura: The University Treasure is protected from Corruption. This is typically done only in the transition period when a VR is opened
  • Blue Aura: The Mines are protected from Decay or Collapse. This is typically done only in the transition period when a VR is opened.
  • White Aura: The University Books are protected from Decay. This is typically done only in the transition period when a VR is opened.
