Relationships

Typically, a marriage should not happen overnight. It is recommended to all players to build up through the stages, but it is not required. One can set your relationship status up to engaged by doing the following:

Go to My Settings > Change Profile

You can then change your character's status as you wish up to engagement if you are not married.

Counseling and your local Priest

The first step towards marriage is usually getting counseling from a priest. This may be just to set up the date and time for the ceremony and helping to nail down some of the specifics that you may be curious about. It may also include baptism scheduling if you are not baptised. To schedule counseling, you can go to the temple located under the town option and select "Make a Request". The priest should then contact you on the details.

When it comes to the actual ceremony, there are two main options available:

  1. Zunian - The colors in this type of wedding are typically red and black. Weapons are usually used as part of the ceremony to further demonstrate this desire to always protect each others. Commitment is very important. Divorce MUST be settled via a duel. In the purist sense, it was to the death. However, mercy was allowed by the offended party. There is no such thing as mutual breakup. A penalty must be paid.
  2. Traditional - This marriage ceremony tends to focus on the circle of existence and the love that encompasses it. This ceremony type is more flexible to the individual beliefs of the community rather than focus on the strength of two together.

A priest may role-play the marriage in the forums prior to signing the paperwork in their office. (Priests must select the "Wed" option in the Inner Chambers and include both partner's names in the selected boxes.)

Zunian Ceremony Example

Priest Colors: Red and Black (symbolizes the fight between the fiery passion and the dark unknown)

Participants typically are armed.

Ceremony Start:

"We are gathered together here in the presence of friends and family to celebrate the love, devotion, and commitment which these two have for each other, to give recognition to their decision to commit their lives and accept each other completely, to always have their partner's back throughout the days and nights of one's life, and to always be vigilant to each other's needs. Entering into this commitment, they know the heavy price to break it and will ensure that they never stray too far."

Ask Bride: "Do you promise before the Mages and all those present here today to share your life, standing tall with him no matter his condition or status, to always have his back no matter what?"

They Answer: "yes, I do"

Ask Groom: "Do you promise before the Mages and all those present here today to share your life, standing tall with her no matter his condition or status, to always have her back no matter what?"

They Answer: "yes, I do"

Have them touch weapons.

Priest: "Together they shall always defend each other proving their love with their strength and honor. Their strength now combined. In perfect unity, they will strive to be. Their unfailing devotion represented by a simple solid ring."

Call each to put the ring on the other. They may have made up their own vows. If so, they read it here. Traditionally, it is expected that the couples make a personal vow.

Priest: "To seal their vows together, in perfect harmony, they shall now share a kiss"

They Kiss

Priest: "Ladies and Gentlemen, it brings me great honor to present to you, BRIDE and GROOM united together in holy matrimony. May the Mages bless you forever"

Marriage Box

A marriage box is not required for a marriage and must be done after the marriage. If you and your spouse is interested in getting one, you must first contact a Carpenter to make a gift box. You can find a carpenter either by contacting your local mentor or by examining the current people in town.

Once you have a gift box in your inventory, then you will need to head to the temple (located under town > temple) and make a faithful request. During the time that the request is made, your gift box will sit with the temple and no longer be in your inventory. If the priest denies your request, the gift box will be returned.

However, if the priests decides to accept the request, they will then use 5 Faith Points from the temple. This will result in a marriage box being created in your home town. You and your spouse will be able to share goods via the marriage box.

Divorce

If at any time you wish to divorce, the Overseer is the only person who can do so for you. You can request this via the temple's Faithful Request option. They may require additional requirements by the Overseer.
