Revolts, Besieging, and Independence

In Secfenia, players can choose to take over towns and nodes, and towns can choose to break free from their holding Viceroyalty.

Introduction

Historically speaking, Secfenia's nations have defended at times and attacked at times to expand their control. Players in this version of Secfenia can do the same. It should be noted that any of these actions may be considered against the law in the Viceroyalty or town where it occurs. You may wish to consult the law code located in the appropriate forums.

This tutorial will cover how to attack/defend a node, town, and/or Viceroyalty as well as how to make a node or town independent.

Taking Over a Town: Revolt

There are two methods for taking over a town. Due to the nature of these two options, both have a confirmation screen to make sure you really want to do it. The first method is by Revolting against the town. To do this, you go to the Town Hall screen located at [Town>Townhall] and select the Option Revolt.

In a revolt, you and whomever else revolts will be added together against the town militia. A key to making revolts harder to be successful is upkeep of the Town Walls, Towers, and the Town Clerical Happiness. To be more specific, here is the basic premise behind a Town Revolt:

Revolters Needed = (1 + Percentage of Town Walls/Towers) * Town Militia/Defenders

If you and the other revolters are successful, a new mayor will emerge from the Revolters to take on a fresh 30 day mayoral term. However, if you are unsuccessful, you may find the strong arm of the law coming after you. Either way, your mood and alignment are affected by this action.

Taking Over a Town: Army Besiege

There are two methods for taking over a town. Due to the nature of these two options, both have a confirmation screen to make sure you really want to do it. The second method is by besieging the town with an army. An army besiege changes the mechanics a little. First off, you will need to form an army. Second, you will need to go to the Town Hall screen located at [Town>Townhall] and select the Option Besiege the Town. You will be able to select if you wish to change the Town's Alliegance. If a town already belongs to a particular Viceroyalty, your only option to change it to is Independent. You would have to besiege the town again to "force" a change to another Viceroyalty.

In an Army Besiege, the town defenders (and militia) battle the army. Stats come into play from both your person and your equipment. Also, don't forget any skills gained via the University may also come into play. Attackers should remember to focus on areas like Attack, Strength, and Dexterity while Defenders should focus on Defense and Dexterity.

If the attempts are successful, a new mayor will emerge from those that acted against Town Hall to take on a fresh 30 day mayoral term. However, if you are unsuccessful, you may find the strong arm of the law (or an Army!) coming after you. Either way, your mood and alignment are affected by this action.

Taking Over the Castle: Revolt

There is only one method for taking over a Castle. Due to the nature of this option, it has a confirmation screen to make sure you really want to do it. To do this, you go to the Viceregal Castle screen located at [Viceroyalty>Castle] and select the Option Revolt.

In a revolt, you and whomever else revolts will be added together against the Castle Guard and the capitol's town militia. A key to making revolts harder to be successful is the Castle Walls. To be more specific, here is the basic premise behind a Town Revolt:

Revolters Needed = (1 + Percentage of Castle Defenses) * Castle Guard/Defenders/Capitol Militia

If the attacks are successful, a new Viceregal Leader will emerge from the attackers to take on a fresh 60 day (Republic Government Style) or 90 day (Monarchy Government Style) Viceregal term. However, if you are unsuccessful, you may find the strong arm of the law (or an Army!) coming after you. Either way, your mood and alignment are affected by this action.

Taking Over a mine, road, or shallows

An army has the ability to attack or defend a mine, road, or shallows. To do so, you will need to go to the Travel Screen located at [Town Outskirts>Town]. From there, select the option Attack Node. From there you will be given an option to change the allegiance of the node. The attacks will proceed like a typical army battle.

NOTE: If a node already belongs to a particular Viceroyalty, your only option will be to change it to Independent. You would have to besiege the node again to "force" a change to another Viceroyalty.

Independence

There are 3 ways to make a town independent:

  • Successfully Besiege the town and change it's allegiance
  • Successfully Perform an Independence Petition as a mayor
  • Have the Leader of the Viceroyalty remove your town

NOTE: Towns that are independent no longer have access to the University, Viceregal Council, the Courthouse or the Viceregal Scribe. Only Level 0's will be able to level using the Indy Scribe.

For the first two scenarios above, it will be considered contested for two weeks unless otherwise specified by the neighboring Viceroyalties (Council in a Republic, Monarch in a Monarchy).

Once no longer contested, a petition may be brought forth to the Mages if a new Viceroyalty wishes to be formed. Please see the policies for more details on a new Viceroyalty.
