Basics

Grants can be either done by the Town or the Viceroyalty and issued to any player in the game. Town grants are issued by the Mayor of a particular town while Viceregal grants are typically issued by the Finance Minister of the Viceroyalty. Either government level may choose to write a message with the terms of the grant. This may also be used in court if you violate those terms. If you do not agree to the terms of a grant, you should return it immediately. Grants are considered property of the respective body that issues them.

Issuing a Grant

Town Mayor

A Town Mayor may issue a grant to anyone who is located in their town at the time of issuing. The Town Grant will require 1 grant bag per 60 days that they want the grant available to the granted character. There is a maximum term of 360 days.

To issue a town grant, the mayor will need to take the following steps:

1) Enter the Mayor's office by going to the Town Menu and selecting "Town Hall". On this screen, click on either the door.gif icon or "Enter Your Office".

2) Grants are under the Financial Adviser link at the top.

3) Select the Grants button under the Transactions row

4) Select Add Town Grant (located on the right side in the main site or at the bottom on the mobile)

5) Enter the terms of the Grant and the amount of the money you want into the grant. These terms are helpful to let the character know your expectation of the use of the grant. Then select "Add Grant" You can always edit this if you need to any time before the grant is assigned. This will redirect you back to the main Town Grants screen

6) If you want to add items to the grant, then select the Town Inventory button and use the tbuy.png icon to move any items you want into that grant.

7) To assign the grant, you will need to go back to the main grant screen (by following steps 1 to 3 if you followed step 6). On the main grant screen, click on the Assign icon

8) Enter the character name and the length of the grant that you would like to have and click on Assign. The grant bags will be taken and the grant assigned to the character. They can now find the grant listed under the Grants menu > Town Grant

A Finance Minister may issue a grant to anyone who is located on any node within their jurisdiction at the time of issuing. The Viceregal Grant will require 1 grant bag per 60 days that they want the grant available to the granted character. There is a maximum term of 360 days.

To issue a Viceregal grant, the Finance Minister will need to take the following steps:

3) Select the Grants button under the Financial heading

4) Select Add Viceregal Grant (located on the right side in the main site or at the bottom on the mobile)

5) Enter the terms of the Grant and the amount of the money you want into the grant. These terms are helpful to let the character know your expectation of the use of the grant. Then select "Add Grant" You can always edit this if you need to any time before the grant is assigned. This will redirect you back to the main Viceregal Grants screen

6) If you want to add items to the grant, then select the Viceregal Inventory button and use the vbuy.png icon to move any items you want into that grant.

Soft Limits

The soft limits apply to both types of grants. Soft limits for grants have two parts: Items and Money. If you go over the Item soft limit, you may lose items at the next reset and every reset that you stay above the item soft limit. In addition, if you go over the Money soft limit, you may lose money from the grant at the next reset and every reset that you stay above the money soft limit.

The soft limits for Town Grants are based on the level of Town Hall.

The soft limits for Viceregal Grants are based on the level of the Viceregal Castle.

For more information, check into Soft Limits.

Return, Burning and Fees

Town grants may be returned in the Town in which it was assigned at no cost.

Viceregal grants may be returned on any node in which the Viceroyalty that assigned it has jurisdiction at no cost.

Either grant type may be returned at a port town for a fee. This fee will be determined by the distance between that port town and the government that assigned it as determined by the Peasant Travel system.

If you do not want to return a grant, you may also select to burn the grant using 5 wood. This action may or may not have consequences with the government authority who issued the grant.

If a grant is not returned within 90 days, the town or Viceroyalty will be charged 5 Freznics every 30 days starting at day 90. Failure to return the grant may be additional fees by the respective government.

Grant Security

Prior to the release of 3.1.005, any mayor or Finance Minister who issued a grant to themselves would be issuing a secure grant. A secure grant is one in which the character is unable to transfer anything out of the grant. This is typically used to hold goods to protect them in cases where the government may be unstable. After the release of 3.1.005, no more secure grants can be issued, but the previous secure grants are grandfathered in as secure grants. This means that all grants after 3.1.005 can have items/money removed from them.

Neither grant type may be robbed from whether the character is on the road or at home.

Expiration

All grants have an expiration date that is related to the length of term that is based upon the number of grant bags used ranging from 60 days to 260 days. This can be seen on the grant screen.

When a grant is given to a player, their grant screen will show the following:

When it gets within a week of it expiring, it will change to a yellow text on their grant.

When the grant reaches the max age and it expires at the next reset, they will get a notification that says: "Town Grant #1234 expires today. Perhaps you should return it or burn it? Otherwise you will be charged 5 Freznics per day..."

The next reset, it will change to a red text on their grant and include a warning notice about it being expired.

The charge of 5 freznics per day does not start for about a week. After this period ends, they will be charged the money out of their inventory even if it makes them negative as well as potential loss of items and money in the grant.

NOTE: Players who are paused will have their expired grant returned automatically after this period and they will be billed at a slightly higher rate than the normal grant port return fee.
