Introduction
Secfenia is a game made up of diverse players from around the world. We can not guarantee that every player who is a part of this community or visits the community will use every avenue (including external services) to keep your information private. As such, the administrative team has come up with some suggestions to help you stay safe while in Secfenia and online on other avenues.
Tips
- When you do discuss character matters in Out of Character talks, stick just to the characters and do not give away your own personal information including possible political party affiliation, age, etc. Some of the best characters that I've interacted with, I never knew the specifics of the person behind the mask
- If someone asks for your real life name, you can and should respectfully decline. Instead, you can use a potential nickname or your login name from the game. This will help deter those who might try to locate more information on you by searching by your name. However, it should be noted that if you have used your character name with your real name in a public location, people still may be able to find it.
- Role-play, role-play, role-play. It's best to stick to IC discussions. Veering into too many OOC discussions may make it easier for someone to track you down if they wanted to.
- Avoid giving out your personal email address. To play in a game, one does not need to give our MSN, AIM, Yahoo Messenger, or email address to play it.
- Never give out your social security number, credit card number, or password to someone requesting it. No one in Secfenia will ever need any of the three bits of information. The admin team, by policy, will reset passwords instead of asking you for a password you would like.
- Ensure that you have working Virus protection and malware protection. I have personally used AVG as well as Spybot. There are other solutions out there as well.
- Read and set your privacy settings for any website you are on. Note that every legitimate website should have this as well as a privacy policy which indicates to you whether they do or do not sell your information that you provide to them in surfing or registering on their site. For example, Secfenia does not sell any information to any advertisers.
